An Introduction To Macs & Logic A Mac (short for Macintosh) is a PC which is made & sold by the company Apple.

The Desktop, Finder, The Dock & The Menu Bar is the most basic sections of a Mac you should Turn off the speakers when recording because it causes feedback during recording. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and can only work on Audio Workstations and MIDI Controllers. What MIDI does is represent musical information in a digital format and it is used to compose music. The cable which needed for your MIDI keyboard to work on your mac is the MIDI cable adapter which is 2 cables which you put the MIDI OUT in to the MIDI IN & the MIDI IN in to the MIDI OUT & then you should connect the USB on the end of the cable to your Mac. The Dock on your Mac is very easy to use just click on the Logic Icon to open the program. After clicking on the Icon this should appear on your screen

Wait for it to load then click "le" then "new" after this should load up on your screen. Click on Empty project.

After you click "Empty Project" this little box should come up on your screen. To change the number of tracks you have click on The Number and put in the number of how many software instruments or audio track you want then click "Create"

To save the Logic File in your own Folder click on the Finder icon then click "New Folder" After clicking "New Folder" a new folder should appear right click on the folder, to right click on Mac press control on your keyboard then "Get Info" then this should come up Click on "Name & Extension" and then type the name you wish to use for your Folder.

After go back on to Logic then click "File Then "Save As" then Type the name of what you want your File to be save and then click on "Where" then you should see

you Folder you just made under the "Recent Places" Starting Out.

To start recording your song rst you will need to chose a instrument from the Library to do that just simply click the Media tab and then click library and choose any instrument by clicking on it. So if you would like a Piano simply click on "Acoustic Pianos" and then click which ever one you like. After waiting for it to load you should be able to hear the instrument you chose when you press a note on your keyboard.

To start recording simply hit record on the bottom of the screen. If you want to change your Tempo double click on the bottom of the screen where the numbers are and put in a tempo you are happy with.

After A count in of 4 should be heard and then it should start recording. While recording play a simple melody or chord on Your MIDI Keyboard. If you are happy with what you have got press the space bar on your keyboard and it will stop recording. If you were playing out of time with the metronome you can quantize your recording. If you do not know what Quantizing means time-correcting a performance so say you were doing a simple 1-2-3-4 with a Hi-Hat with a MIDI drum kit was a little out of time if you Quantized it it would be corrected. So to quantize click on the Piano roll then highlight all the notes then click on the bar next to where it says Q and then chose the option 1/16-note which normally corrects the time.

You could do a lot more things on Logic, you could add reverb to your track, what reverb is it's a electronically produced echo effect. It can make songs sound much better. To add reverb to your track click on the plug-in bar move your mouse down to Reverb then click on Silver Verb then Stereo.

A window should pop up looking like this. If you want you can play around with the settings to get a sound that you really like. If not you could always choose presets. to do that click on the arrow next to where it says Default and a list should pop up. You could save your own settings our choose a one that has already been created.

To Record Live Instruments you will need to have a jack to jack lead for Recording Bass & Acoustic/Electric Guitar for drums you will need microphones. First you will have to To record guitar get your Jack To Jack lead and plug it in to your Mixing Desk or in to your Audio Interface. After click Add Track and the same window should come up as before like when you were adding MIDI tracks but this time click on Audio & then hit Create after you will need to go to preferences and click on Audio then change your input & output device to whatever is the name of your Audio Interface or Mixing Desk.

Once you have changed click the R on the Audio Track and then you should be able to hear your instrument. If not you will need to change the input by clicking Input 1 and changing to Input 2 then it should work.

Sound Waves So what is a sound-wave? a sound-wave is created by a vibration of a object which causes air around it to vibrate Then the vibrating air causes our eardrums to vibrate which then our ears interpret as sound. What does compression do? what compression does is pretty much take away the stuff in recordings that people can not hear. Some people can hear the difference between what is compressed and what is uncompressed in songs. What is rarefaction? rarefaction is pretty much the opposite of compression, A natural example of this is as a phase in a sound wave or phonon. Half of a sound wave is made up of the compression of the medium and the other half is the decompression or rarefaction of the medium. What is frequency? Fundamentally it's a measurement of how often a given event repeats in time. If you subscribe to a daily newspaper then the frequency of the paper being delivered could be described as as once per day, 7 times a week. When we talk about the frequency of sound we are referring to how many times a particular pattern of amplitudes repeats during one second.

How To Make A Remake of a song. To make a remake of a song rst what Is recommended doing is putting the track in to Logic. after doing that go to metering then BPM Counter after doing that play the song dragged in to Logic then Logic should count the tempo. After doing that choose a drum kit which you think is close to the drums and then try and play the rhythm if you can not do that then you can draw a rhythm with the pencil tool. After doing that you can quantize it.

After that I would suggest nding out the chords & the melody to the song. You could do that by searching on the internet by watching YouTube tutorials or listening by ear. After doing that again nd all the instruments which you think sound closest to the ones in the song. After recording all you parts if you are not happy with some parts simply highlight the track and hit Delete on your keyboard or backspace. To copy & paste parts of your song hit command & C to copy then Command & V to paste.

How to mute tracks in Logic

to Solo tracks in Logic do the same. You could use both these features if you want to hear one recorded track of the song or hear different tracks but one. To bounce the tracks hit command B or hit le then bounce after that A little window should come up showing what you would like the le to save as, where to save it & what format. To nd your song easily after it is bounced i would recommend adding it to your iTunes library to do that click the "Add To iTunes Library" at the bottom of the window. After all that is done click bounce and your song should appear in your iTunes library.

Listening back can be very important I normally burn my tracks on to a CD so I can hear on different speakers so I can see if it's not loud enough of if there is not enough bass etc.
