A) The functions of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was a document drawn up by delegates from the 13 colonies. It gave reasons as to why Americans had decided to separate from England and also told they what their goals were. b) The importance of the Declaration It stated the causes that lead to the revolution, e.g. taxes, trade.
