He reminded me that I had read a poem to him once and w anted me to recite it. He cued me w ith a few w ords of it and I recalled having read to him some poems of Juan Ramon Jimenez. The particular one he had in mind w as entitled El Viaje Definitivo (The Definitive Journey). I recited it. and I w ill leave. But the birds w ill stay, singing: and my garden w ill stay, w ith its green tree, w ith its w ater w ell. Many afternoons the skies w ill be blue and placid, and the bells in the belfry w ill chime, as they are chiming this very afternoon.
