What a winter we have been having! I feel like we arent making a whole lot of progress in the curriculum due to the late starts and days off. However, I have been pleasantly surprised at how that hasnt stopped this class in their Spanish. Yesterday in Math when we began working on their number stories I had a question on my Smartboard lesson that asked (of course in Spanish) How much more does the eagle weigh than the fox?. Before I even had a chance to rephrase and give more information, they quickly shouted out the answer! The vocabulary is really making sense to them. Last week we did Lesson 2 of Unit 2, focusing on helping in our families. The main story used animals to talk about the importance of sharing in our families and we used that to practice ordering events. We also wrote sentences about the chores we do to help. We also worked with the strong r sound and vocabulary with that. This week was super short. We read a story about snow and practiced vocabulary related to winter by creating sentences. We also read The Mitten and again practiced order of events. We will continue to practice a leveled book of The Mitten next week. Jan. 28 Feb. 6 Feb. 7 Feb. 14 Feb. 17 Mar. 6-7
REMINDERS: * We could use more glue sticks for the class. You also may want to check with your child if he/she needs an update to his/her crayons. Some dont have many left or theyre broken.
Spelling words come from the letter and syllable combinations we are studying for the week. This coming week will be g combinations. Spanish is a phonetic language meaning there is one sound per letter. The only exceptions to that are c and g. We will be focusing on the hard g sound this week, which is the same sound the hard g makes in English when it is in front of a, o, and u. To preserves that same hard g, a u is placed in front of the e and the i. ga (gah) go (go) gu (goo)
