HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS CAN QUALIFY FOR $400 SCHOLARSHIP BY ATTENDING NORTHWESTERN'S SATURDAY SHOWCASE FEB. 15

Northwestern Oklahoma State University is offering an opportunity for high school seniors who were unable to attend Ranger Preview in November, by playing host to its first ever spring Saturday Showcase event that will take place Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. in the Student Center. Any high school senior who attends Saturday Showcase, is admitted to Northwestern as a full-time student at the Alva campus and lives in Alva during the academic year will receive a $400 scholarship. Students who received the Ranger Preview scholarship are not eligible for the Saturday Showcase scholarship. Registration will start at 10 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to tour campus, get to know the university, meet the faculty and student organizations and get all college questions answered firsthand. Those attending also will get a free Northwestern T-shirt, a free catered lunch and free admission to the Ranger baseball and basketball games. There also will be a theatre production of Midsummer Nights Dream Saturday at 2 p.m. The cost for students registered for Saturday Showcase is $1. I am very excited and looking forward to our Saturday Showcase event this spring and having the opportunity to once again host potential students on our campus, said Calleb Mosburg, dean of student affairs and enrollment management. I know Paige Fischer, director of recruitment, and her staff, are working hard in preparation for the event and expecting a good turnout. The Office of Recruitment encourages pre-registration. If a student is unable to preregister, walk-ins are still welcome. Six Northwestern Oklahoma State University students have been inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta honor society. Those inducted include Harold Henson, Alva sophomore; Jose Luis Martinez, Jr., Woodward senior; Michelle Penner, Cherokee junior; Ashley Ross, Enid junior; Clifford Smith, Helena post-graduate; and Eva Souleyman, a December graduate from the country of Chad. The purpose of Phi Alpha Theta is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas. Dr. Roger Hardaway, professor of history, has been the adviser to Northwesterns Phi Alpha Theta chapter since 2004. Hardaway explained that membership is open to only a few students each year. Members do not have to be history majors, but they do have to take several courses in the discipline and also have excellent grades, Hardaway said. By being selective in its membership, Phi Alpha Theta ensures that being inducted into the organization is truly an honor. Phi Alpha Theta was organized in 1921 at the University of Arkansas and has more than 850 chapters throughout the United States.

First Baptist Church of Buffalo will host Davids Creed, an Oklahoma Baptist University praise ensemble, on Feb. 1 to perform a 7 p.m. concert. There will be an additional performance on Sunday, Feb. 2, during the 11 a.m. morning worship service.

OBU's praise ensemble, Davids Creed, will perform a concert at First Baptist Church of Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. There will be an additional performance on Sunday, Feb. 2, during the 11 a.m. morning worship service. music with traditional hymns. The repertoire allows the group to minister in churches with different styles of musical preference. The auditioned praise ensemble was started by the OBU Division of Music in spring 2007. Its primary purpose is to connect OBU with the churches in Oklahoma and the surrounding region by serving those churches in worship through music, testimony and Gods Word. Members of the 2013-14 Davids Creed band include Taylor Sammy Miller, Andrews, Justin Hull, Workman, Ethan Michael Juliano, Kristen Lee, Joy Knight, Emily Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby each told The Associated Press they have no plans to run for the seat. Boren was the last Democrat to serve in Oklahoma's congressional delegation. He decided not to seek reelection to his U.S. House in 2012 and currently works for the Elkins and Micah Keeney. Gerber, assistant professor of music education, is coordinator of vocal music education at OBU. He teaches methods courses, supervises student teachers and conducts the Young Singers of Central Oklahoma in the OBU Preparatory Program. A native of Weatherford, Okla., Gerber earned bachelors and masters degrees from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He has also completed level I training in the OrffSchulwerk method of Chickasaw Nation. Former Gov.
