1. Svay Rieng Water and Sanitation Cooperation Project (WatSan)


The overall objective is to expand the coverage of improved water supplies and sanitation facilities to
underserved population of Romeas Hek and Romduol Districts, Svay Rieng Province, and to improve
health and hygiene practices related to water bone diseases and diseases and sanitation.

 215 bio-sand water filters were constructed and distributed to


211 households and a primary school called Sra Mor. 1,018
household members (462 women and 338 children) and 156
pupils (77 girls) and 4 teachers were estimated as beneficiaries
through the filters distribution.

 67 latrines were constructed and distributed to 67 households


with 328 persons (177 women and 114 children) in 11 villages of
Daung Commune benefited.

 36 target villages in five communes of Romeas Hek and


Rumdoul Districts were identified by CWS/C as project sites to
developed village water and sanitation action plan for FY2010
respectively through the facilitation of CWS and Commune
Development Facilitators. 1,909 villagers (1,109 women) from
those villages attended. In addition, a need assessment was
conducted in three proposed new target districts namely
Kampong Rou, Svay Teap and Chantrea in cooperation with
commune councils in seven communes to identify the necessity
of expanding new target areas.

 Eight [8] awareness courses were conducted respectively to 3421


persons (169 women) on general hygiene and sanitation, latrine
use and maintenance, bio-sand water filter operation and
maintenance.

 Three coordination meetings were conducted during the Quarter.


Two separate meetings about World Water Day’s celebration
were held with Director of Svay Rieng provincial department of
rural development and Romeas Hek district governor while
another was to invite the Svay Rieng PDRD to attend the
CWSC’s donor Square Table meeting on 26 March.

As a result of the purpose of World Water Day, One day


celebration and four awareness raisings through group walking
were conducted with the participation of 3572 people.

 10 training courses on role and responsibility of Water and


Sanitation User Group (WSUG) were conducted to 228 members
(107 women) from 56 target villages. Similarly, another training
course on leading and managing rural organization was
conducted with 25 WSUG members (13 women) from 13
different villages in Daung commune attended.

 Two network workshops were attended with I/NGO in Svay


Rieng and Provincial Committee for Disaster Management of
Svay Rieng.

 6 SVR staff (1 women) received a training course on Sphere and


5 received training course on LCP Assessment delivered by
Program Office staff.

There are 45 (26 women) are latrine beneficiaries, 132 (53 women) are bio-sand water filter, 6 teachers (1 mistress) and 159
students (89 girls).

2. Village Based Community Development Project (VBCD)
The overall objective is to develop the communities’ capacity to define their development direction and
improver them to meet their basic need; access to basic services; sustainable livelihood opportunities
and food security in Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear provinces.

 There were three times of food nutrition distribution to 960


children under 24 months, 250 pregnant women, 208 lactating
mothers, 931 mothers of children aged from 6-24 months and 68
VHVs in 30 target villages of the Kompong Thom and Preah
Vihear Project. A total 11,780 Kg of CSB powder, 19,050 Kg of
white rice, and 1,215 Kg of vegetable oil and 2,945 Kg of sugar
were distributed in collaboration between CWS Cambodia and
UN World Food Program.

 130 water filters [49 bio-sand and 81 ceramic], 5 latrines, and 19


open-wells were constructed and installed for residents in Preah
Vihear and Kompong Thom while other 10 well apron
construction materials were distributed to two target villages of
the Kompong Thom. Total expected benefit households through
distributed facilities were 365.

Another importantly, 231 residents (104 women) from 9 villages


in Preah Vihear are already promoted by the Project staff about the
advantage of using bio-sand filter.

 Four [4] flood affected families in 3 target villages of Kompong


Thom and one vulnerable family in PVH received either
emergency food or school materials to support their 3 school age
children to attend school from CWS. In addition, two absolute
poor families in Kompong Thom received US$40 for
transportation to obtain medical treatment at Kompong Thom
referral hospital while other 10 absolute poor families in four
target villages same province received materials to start small
businesses.

 Three [3] bridges, one [1] water gate, three [3] bridges needed to
be repaired, and one [1] meeting hall were in-kinds support by the
Preah Vihear project while a twin culvert was granted in
responding to community led initiative plan in Beng Village,
Sroeung Commune. In addition, two absolute poor families in two
different villages of Sraeung and Tipou commune are dug their
household ponds through food for work theme provision.

 133 absolute poor families in 12 target villages of Kompong


Thom received; vegetable seeds [86], hens [8], and fruit seedlings
such as mangos, jackfruits, guavas, milk fruits and custard apples
[39].

 Four quarterly meetings with four different Commune Councils in


Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear (one in Kompong Thom
Province ) were organized to discuss about their major
achievements have been accomplished within the quarter with 47
commune councilors including 15 women participated. Similarly,
25 women TBAs in 12 target villages and 10 VHVs (7 women)
from 8 target villages of Kompong Thom attended two separate
one-day training.

 Nine [9] coordination meetings attended and conducted during the


reporting period by the Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear Project
staff on various subjects such as: sharing the progress and
challenges of the Project, non-formal education and health issues.
The meetings were with local authorities, NGOs and NFE
department of Provincial Department of Education.

 A celebration event on International Woman’s Day was organized


in cooperation with Choam Ksant District Office of Women
Affairs and authority with 178 people (133 women) under PVH
project participated.

 A Buddhistic prayer group was formed with 20 peoples (15


women) in Sraeung Village became as members. A battery, one
fold painting of Buddha and 1 peace books were given.

 1,332 residents (1,097 women) of Kompong Thom and Preah


Vihear were attended various awareness raisings such as: peace
building concept, safe delivery and birth spacing, HIV/AIDs,
sexual transmitted disease, food nutrition, malaria and dengue
fever, and water and sanitation; organized by CWS Cambodia in
cooperation with CPVs, TBAs, and VHVs.

With awareness raising about peace building concept, 14


commune councilors, VDCs and CPV (3 women) from Kompong
Thom and Preah Vihear were sent to join 19th peace walk in Prey
Veng Province.

 Four times of two different training courses on Local Capacity for


Peace/do no harm and Understand Conflict and Building Peace in
Our Lives were conducted in Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear
during the reporting period with 18 CCs (2 women), 26 VDCs, 10
CPVs participated while another two-day training course on
Leading and Managing Rural Organization was conducted three
times differently in three communes of Kompong Thom with 54
VDCs, VLs and 14 CCs are also participated.

 A three-day refresher training on birth spacing, mother and child


health care was conducted by CWS and HC staff 30 TBA in 4
target communes in Preah Vihear.

 23 key farmers (19 women) from 4 villages in Kompong Thom


received a two-day training on Compost Fertilizer while other 14
key famers of the same province received training on planting
straw mushroom as well as 12 vulnerable families in Preah Vihear.

 8 non-formal classes including two classes with 38 students (20


women) of Preah Vihear were supported by Kompong Thom and
Preah Vihear Projects. In addition, 23 NFE teachers, VLs (5
women) from 11 target villages of Kompong Thom attended one-
day ‘NFE teachers’ quarterly meeting.

 19 SHG committees (13 women) from 4 villages in KPT attended


a three-day training on SHG Concept and Bookkeeping.

 9 Preah Vihear Project staff (4 women) and 10 kompong Thom


Project staff (3 women) received training on Leading and
Managing Rural Organization, Sphere, Accountability, Anti-
corruption, LCP Assessment, Health with emphasis on water and
sanitation delivered by Program Office level staff. In addition,two
staff amongst (one from Preah Vihear) attended one-day workshop
on “Healing, Anxiety through Meditation of Buddhist Approach”.
