DiGi Discovers Improved Network Parameter Management through Aexios Xeda

CUSTOMER OBJEC TIVES Manage inconsistent multi-vendor and multi-technology network parameters in an efficient manner Maintain and improve high QoS during operational activities Increase engineering productivity

As DiGis mobile subscribers grew, so did the complexity of its network. Undeterred, it found the right solution in Aexios Xeda , to improve network parameter management , control cost and ensure that the optimal is always being done to deliver the best services possible to its Malaysian subscriber base.
ABOUT DIGI DiGi Telecommunications, one of Malaysias leading mobile operators, provides a comprehensive range of affordable, convenient and easy to use wireless services that enriches the lives of its 7.9 million subscribers. It is owned in majority by Telenor ASA of Norway with 49% stake in the company. With its high standards of quality control, the operator does its very best deliver an excellent mobile experience to its customers at all time. The Need for a Network Parameter Management System Maintaining quality services is indispensable in Malaysias competitive cellular markets. However, DIGI realized that it was also vital to control the time, effort and skills it had been investing in solving network problems in order to keep operational costs under control.

AEXIO XEDA SOLUTION Automated solution that parses multi vendor network to detect network inconsistencies Access and view multi-vendor key information on parameter settings simultaneously regardless of location CUSTOMER BENEFITS Increased successful call completion Reduced operational costs by reduc ing engineering resources that handles difficult inter-vendor parameter checks Optimal and convenient usage of network data, boosting engineering performance

Being a multi-vendor network with massive expansion and rapid growth over the years, the operator recognized that the management of data and handover parameters had become increasingly difficult to control. With the launch of DiGis WCDMA network nationwide, this task was made even more critical especially in the areas where the network performed; Inter-System Handover (e.g. between WCDMA and GSM channels), between BSS and core network (i.e. BSC/RNC to MSC), and Intra-Frequency Handovers (e.g. across multi-vendor equipment within the same frequency band). The typical consequences of such a complex handover environment without ensuring parameter consistency are dropped calls due to incorrect handover parameters between 2G and 3G systems. Such drop calls, if not resolved immediately, would eventually impact network quality and reduce customer satisfaction. XEDA AND DIGI Realizing the importance for an automated solution that ensures parameters in the cellular network are consistent within vendors, between vendors and also between technologies such as 2G, 3G and 3.5G, DiGi choose Xeda, an optimization platform that had been developed by network optimization and operations engineering specialist, Aexio, to correspond to the rapidly growing complexity of network parameter management. Through an exploitation of RF engineerings best practices, XEDA effectively manages multi vendor network parameters, as well as provides invaluable insight into the overall parameter handover process ,furnishing engineers with the luxury of time to tackle network problems and formulate strategic decisions that enhances the networks overall performance . Without using Xeda, we required greater time to resolve the same problems. Xeda has simplified difficult and tedious parameter consistency operations. Our optimization engineers are now able to create, track, implement and verify the parameter change process though a centralized database, which has signifi-

cantly decreased the time it takes us to react when locating and resolving problems such as drop calls and blocked calls she added.

XEDA has definitely taken our network optimization initiatives to greater altitudes. By automating the engineering process of retrieving switch dump data, parsing data, providing Excel or webbased reports and producing MML scripts for critical inconsistencies detected, we are able to control operational costs by reducing engineering resources despite mounting network intricacy,
Jamie Chee DiGi Head of Network Quality SCALABILITY AND THE FUTURE Xeda has been operating in DiGis network since the year 2007, and as of today plays an integral role in DiGis daily optimization and operations process. We are extremely pleased with the viable solution that Aexio has presented to us through Xeda. Aexio has demonstrated great partnership in providing solutions that meet our needs which increases our operational efficiency. This optimization platform has successfully grown on to serve the network configuration part of our network and with this said, we look forward to a beneficial partnership for years to come added Jamie. Kean Chan, Technology Director at Aexio summarizes the companys current and future plans for DiGi. It has been 3 years since it all began and today, Aexio continues to work with DiGi by customizing and delivering advance features in Xeda which addresses the current and future complexities of network management. This includes additional integration with multiple data sources as well as support for multi-vendor environments.
