We Must Follow Kennedys Vision for Space Policy! A Response to Culberson, et al.
(December 26, 2013) -- The recent successful soft landing of the Chinas Change-3 Moon Lander this past week, has now placed before the United States the challenge of once again embracing the principle of cooperation in space development that President Kennedy laid out more than five decades ago. In Kennedys Rice University Moon speech he boldly stated, For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the Moon and the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding. Yet some Congressmen, and the President, seem more interested in preventing international collaboration in space, even foolishly starting a new Cold War, this time with China, than in living up to what Kennedy defined as a principled reason for going to the Moon, and doing these other things. When Rep. Culberson tells the Houston Chronicle he plans to continue Rep.Wolfs policy of refusing scientific collaboration with China, were Culberson to succeed Wolf as Chair of the Commerce, Justice, and Science subcommittee on Appropriations, he is making this exact mistake, playing right into Obamas thermonuclear encirclement of Asia. Has our Congress so quickly forgotten what terror lived in the hearts of our citizens, while the nuclear sword of Damocles hung over our heads? Are they so arrogant, as to restart the wrong kind of space race, when an open hand for the right kind just extended itself to us? The United States must now commit itself fully to collaboration on the space development of our planet. We have much bigger problems to solve in the strategic defense of the Earth, which can only be achieved by cooperating with the leading space-faring nations, which includes, but is not limited to Russia, China, and India. Mankind must free itself from the threat of near earth objects and asteroids, which require an immediate joint development of the most advanced scientific cooperation in industrialization of the Moon, the mining of its resources -such as Helium 3 and other minerals- and the development of new fusion rocket systems, directed energy beams, and new telescopes, for finding the potentially hazardous objects we must divert from impact. We either collaborate as friends on the common threats of a planet currently unprepared for the space age, or we will play the fool to an onrushing threat of mass extinction of billions on this planet, through effects of extreme space weather, impacts by asteroids or comets, or by an orchestrated war among thermonuclear powers, pushed by the lords of organized money, and their lackeys in the Congress, and their lead lackey, Barack Obama.
