Dear Aff|||ate Campuses and Members of the Nat|ona| Lxecut|ve,

kL: NUS 8UDGL1 2011
W|th the student movement enter|ng year f|ve of VSU, and w|th the |ntroduct|on of the Student
Serv|ces and Amen|t|es Iee |eg|s|at|on th|s year, |t |s now more |mportant than ever that NUS gets
the ba|ance r|ght between sens|b|e f|nanc|a| management, and respons|b|e, contro||ed and
targeted spend|ng.
1he goa| of the 2011 budget |s to g|ve departments and off|ce bearers enough resources to carry
out effect|ve nat|ona| campa|gns as we|| as exerc|s|ng budgetary constra|nt w|th the ob[ect|ve of
u|t|mate|y de||ver|ng a budget surp|us to preserve and protect the nat|ona| student vo|ce.
Ior these goa|s to be rea||sed |t |s of utmost |mportance that succeeds |n max|m|s|ng aff|||at|on
|ncome. NUS surv|ves year to year on the aff|||at|on fees prov|ded to |t by |ts members. 1hrough
the|r f|nanc|a| support NUS |s ab|e to carry on as the nat|ona| representat|ve of Austra||an
students. W|thout the cont|nued f|nanc|a| support of member aff|||ates NUS wou|d cease to be
v|ab|e w|th|n the year, and the nat|ona| vo|ce of the student movement wou|d be s||enced.
1he uncerta|nty that surrounds the SSAI |eg|s|at|on means that |t |s |mperat|ve that NUS cont|nues
to operate |n a f|sca||y respons|b|e manner. 1hat means |eav|ng the organ|sat|on's reserves
untouched. It |s w|th th|s |n m|nd that the 2011 budget w||| de||ver a sma|| surp|us, th|s |s of
course sub[ect to a favourab|e aff|||at|ons outcome and accurate pro[ect|ons of expend|ture.
8e|ow |s a ||st of ||ne |tems used |n the NUS budget. Lach ||ne |tem |s exp|a|ned w|th the hopes of
|mprov|ng your understand|ng of the 2011 budget.
I rem|nd aff|||ates and members of the nat|ona| execut|ve that the budget |tse|f |s commerc|a| |n
