We at times dont show your love in the way we live our lives; We often dont love others as you have loved us. Our fear of rejection holds us back from sharing the good news of the gospel to those around us. We get too busy to rescue those who are perishing and fail to give them the love and knowledge that would lead them to life. As we repent of our sins of omission, let us receive in this service a deeper passion for the last, the lost, and the least. Pour Your Holy Spirit upon us. Set us on fire to reach more people with the message of Jesus. Amen. Thought for the Week

was speaking at an open-air crusade in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Billy Graham was to speak the next night and had arrived a day early. He came incognito and sat on the grass at the rear of the crowd. Because he was wearing a hat and dark glasses, no one recognized him. Directly in front of him sat an elderly gentleman who seemed to be listening intently to my presentation. When I invited people to come forward as an open sign of commitment, Billy decided to do a little personal evangelism. He tapped the man on the shoulder and asked, "Would you like to accept Christ? I'll be glad to walk down with you if you want to." The old man looked him up and down, thought it over for a moment, and then said, "Naw, I think I'll just wait till the big gun comes tomorrow night." Billy and I have had several good chuckles over that incident. Unfortunately, it underlines how, in the minds of many people, evangelism is the task of the "Big Guns," not the "little shots."

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! The Gospel Lesson

he worship theme for this Sunday is about evangelism, particularly one on one sharing of the faith. The Bible story is found in John 1:29-51. It is a story of how the church got started. It was one person telling another person about Jesus. John told Andrew, Andrew told Simon, and so on. The message that is unfolding in my heart to pass on to you is that person to person evangelism is not as difficult as it seems. There are several tips in the story this week that will help you know how it can be easily done in todays society. We want to get you away from the stereotype you think of as personal evangelism - the pushy, rude, arrogant, disrespectful way. We want to propose to you a new way, based on this old story. You dont know whether you can do it until you try it. Also, we want you to let the Holy Spirit put a fire in our hearts so that we all may be appropriately zealous bringing people to Jesus. The first part of vs. 42 is a good title for the message: And he brought him to Jesus. John 1:35-42 - Johns Disciples Follow Jesus (New International Version) 35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, Look, the Lamb of God! 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, What do you want? They said, Rabbi (which means Teacher), where are you staying? 39 Come, he replied, and you will see. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. 40 Andrew, Simon Peters brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, We have found the Messiah (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Peter[a]). Footnotes: [a] John 1:42 Cephas (Aramaic) and Peter (Greek) both mean rock.
