FAAC operators for swinging gates are among the safest available. The anti-entrapment and safety provided by all gate operators can and should be improved with photocells, loop detectors, sensing edges and/or other similar devices. FAAC strongly recommends that devices such as these be installed with all automated gate systems.
To guarantee the safety and efficiency of its equipment, FAAC strongly recommends that qualified personnel test the safety system on an annual basis, as well as maintain the overall hydraulic or mechanical system.

Automatic Swing Door Operator
The 950 automated systems command door opening and closing in absolute operating silence, both in the spring version and in the motorized closing version The automated systems FAAC 950 BM (with spring closing system) can be installed both on the lintel and directly on the doors structure. The housing covering the automated system can be supplied in anodized extruded aluminium or in shaped ABS in an innovative design making it possible to fit a detection sensor (passive infrared) inside it. The automated system has two control boards: 950 MPS (control board) and 950 I/O (input/output). A microprocessor controls all the doors activities in real time, and an encoder detects its angular position at all times. Moreover, you select the operating logic (automatic, manual, night, open) by means of an integrated selector. Built in conformity with the new European safety regulations, and UL standards, speed and force are programmed according to the size of the door. If an obstacle is detected, the door reopens immediately, and as it closes it verifies, at slow speed, the release of the obstacle. Thanks to the accurate selection of the mechanical and electronic components, our 950 BM automated system is able to move leaves weighing over 660 lbs., on continuous duty, while always maintaining absolute operational safety.

The J275 automatic concealed traffic bollard hasfully integrated hydraulic technology for heavy duty usage. With a standard descent time of 2.8 seconds, there is an extra setting that activates the emergency release valve and allows a descent time of just 1 second. The anti-entrapment and security protection provided by all gate operators can and should improved with photobeams, loop detectors, sensing edges and/or other similar devices. FAAC strongly recommends that devices such as those highlighted in this brochure be installed with all automated gate systems.

What is UL 325 and why is it important?
Safety
A Complete Swing Gate System Designed with Safety in Mind
In order to prevent personal injuries associated with automated gate systems, United Laboratories (UL), along with several governmentsponsored consumer safety organizations, developed what is called the UL 325 Standards for gate safety (much the same as has now been done with automatic garage door systems). These standards are meant to protect people, not vehicles, by providing at least two types of safety measures (primary and secondary) in the event a person becomes entrapped by the gate system. Consequently, every manufacturer must have their products tested at an approved laboratory to ensure that their safety measures work. For FAAC, our safety measures include a hydraulic bypass as primary and photobeams as secondary...and we've been providing these safety standards for more than 40 years! FAAC will be happy to package your gate system so that it can be UL 325 compliant, right out of the box. The swing gate operator (either gate-mounted or inground) automates the gate.

GATE INSIDE
Control Panel
The brain of the gate system, the control panel is usually housed in a fiberglass or metal, weather-resistant enclosure along with other important access control devices. For security and safety, it is recommended that this enclosure be lockable. Another recommended option is to install a pre-wired control system from the manufacturer that provides accurate, organized wiring which is extremely helpful in future troubleshooting or repairs.
Access Control Options

A variety of access control devices are available, including these conventional options: Keypad: provides multiple codes for different visitors such as relatives, workers, regular deliveries, etc. Keyswitch/card reader: simplified access control using a special key or coded plastic card. Telephone entry: connects to existing phone line and features distinctive ring to alert you that someone is at the gate. Gates can be opened from the phone itself, and a hold open feature allows for gates to remain open for extended periods of time. Radios: radio receiver plugs into control panel and transmitters are conveniently kept in vehicles or on key ring.

Loops
Normally used to activate traffic lights, Inground loop detectors can also signal your gate operator to open or close. But remember, they are designed to protect vehicles only, not to protect pedestrians or individuals inside the fenced area.
Photobeams
Photobeams protect anything that breaks the beam (vehicles, pedestrians, animals and, especially, children) which causes a reversal of the gate operators. Two sets of photobeams are recommended for best coverage.
Gate Stops (concealed)

Free Exit
For residential purposes, this in-ground loop or radio system automatically opens and closes your gate system to allow guests or visitors to exit your property without you having to do anything.
Gate stops are required on all FAAC gate systems. Stops limit the extent of gate travel and help protect the operator from damaging wear and tear. Stops can be fabricated and attached to the gate leaves, but dont look particularly attractive and can also create unsafe pinch points. These problems can be solved by installing gate stops that are totally concealed inside the gate operator cover.

Warning Light
A warning light will alert anyone near the gate of its imminent movement plus helps to illuminate the gate area.

configurations (refer also to #9 on this sheet). Gate-safe: During power outages, the hydraulic operator can be configured to allow the gate to be pushed open, permitting emergency access to your property. Gate-secure: During power outages, your gate stays closed and locked.

Selecting the Correct Operator for the Application

FAAC offers many different models of swing gate operators. Models are designed to fit certain applications. The following pages provide background information to help you select the best operator for your application.
DECISION #1:
WHICH DIRECTION TO SWING THE GATE?
FAAC gate mounted and in-ground operators can swing gates either inward or outward. Gate mounted operators can be kept inside the property, while the direction of gate swing is best for traffic flow. In-ground operators are mounted beneath the gates. These options reduce opportunities for vandalism and improve appearance.

DECISION #3:
SPEED AND LEAF LENGTH
Some thought should be given to the speed at which the gate will travel. The longer the gate leaf, the faster the traveling edge must move to clear an area in a given amount of time.
A speed of 40 feet/minute (12.2 meters/minute) is a bench mark velocity. It permits efficient operation while limiting the energy in the moving gate leaf. The lower the energy, the less chance of damage to property or injury to people in the event of accidental contact with the moving gate. DECISION #4:
WHAT TYPE OF MOUNTING GEOMETRY?
Decisions regarding mounting geometry apply to gate mounted operators: Models 412, 415, 402, 422 and 400.
As shown in the diagrams below, the operators must be mounted at an angle to the gate. Correct mounting geometry assures that the desired degrees of swing are achieved, that the gate speed is correct, and that the operator and gate will operate properly and have a long life.

Because the BC Pro and 700I battery backup systems run off the batteries, gate operation during a power outage is dependant upon the batteries being well conditioned and charged. If they are not, the voltage does not run through to the control panel being backed up. The battery backup system does not shut down at all during a power outage, instead powering all peripherals being backed up with our battery backup system. Thus, the more peripherals used, the faster the batteries will die. Once the batteries do die, the gates will become inoperable and will stop at the position they were at when the batteries failed. Therefore, it is important to understand that the BC Pro or 700I battery backup systems are not intended to work a Fail secure
Ideal useage for the BC Pro and 700I battery backup systems: Fail safe (gates open during power outage and remain open until power is restored). Even if the power outage is prolonged and the batteries die, the gates will remain open to allow normal ingress and egress during the power outage.

To simplify understanding of the new detector layout, the Model 455 D backplate is shown here with control panel, outlet switch, test button and appropriate terminal strips. Also shown are the new "free exit" and "safety" loop detector plug-in bases. These will come as diagramed with all enclosures.

The battery backup system does not shut down at all during a power outage, instead powering all peripherals being backed up with our battery backup system. Thus, the more peripherals used, the faster the batteries will die. Once the batteries do die, the gates will become inoperable and will stop at the position they were at when the batteries failed. Therefore, it is important to understand that the BC Pro or 700I battery backup systems are not intended to work a Fail secure application (gates remain closed during power outage). Again, long term power outages could result in the batteries failing at some point, possibly leaving the gates either partially or fully open or closed.

16. Skirted Beam Kits A skirted beam keeps vehicles from passing under a barrier beam and consists of a rectangular aluminum beam (ordered separately) and one or more kits for skirting the beam. Each kit is a series of interlocking, jointed metal pieces forming a framework you attach to the bottom of the beam. When the beam raises, gravity causes the skirting to collapse against the vertical beam. If you are retrofitting the skirt to an existing beam, call us about whether you need a different compression spring for your operator. Order a combination of kits whose combined length is 1 foot shorter than the length of your rectangular aluminum beam: . One kit contains mounting hardware and the metal skirt that is about 6 feet (more precisely, 2 meters) long. The kit will work with Models 620 and 640 barriers. . 39. DSP-11 Vehicle Detector The DSP-11 is a switch-less vehicle detector with industry standard 11-pin base. These new detectors have been designed to handle parking, drive-thru and access control applications.

40. DSP-10 Vehicle Detector The DSP-10 has been specifically designed to handle all parking, drive-thru and access control applications. Can be used as either a safety loop or free exit loop detector. With flexibility of fail-safe or failsecure, it is the only parking detector you will ever need.
Model types: DSP-11-LV: low voltage version, 10-30 volts AC or DC Dimensions: 1.4 in. wide x 1.4 in. high x 2.75 in. deep (3.56 cm x 3.56 cm x 7 cm) Loop Size: works on any in-ground inductive loop from 20 to over 1500 nH Indicators: separate power/fail and detect LEDs Detect Memory: power interruptions of short duration are ignored. If power fails for approx. 1.5 sec. or less the detector remembers a vehicle. Sensitivity: automatic compensates for large loops and long lead-ins. Loop Failure: green power indicator flashes slowly if the loop circuit is open and quickly if loop circuit is shorted. The detector will output a detect for either of these loop failed conditions. Fail Safe Operation: All DSP detectors are designed to be Fail Safe in their operation. It will output a detect (contact closure) for a failed loop condition OR a loss of power to the detector. This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied including the warranties of merchantability and fitness for use. This warranty shall not apply to products or any part thereof which have been subject to accident, negligence, alteration, abuse, or misuse or if damage was due to improper installation or use of improper power source, or if damage was caused by fire, flood, lightning, electrical power surge, explosion, wind storm, hail, aircraft or vehicles, vandalism, riot or civil commotion, or acts of God. Terms of Sale
Any products and parts not manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., will carry only the warranty, if any, of the manufacturer. This warranty shall not apply to any products or parts thereof which have been repaired or altered, without FAAC International, Inc.s written consent, outside of FAAC International, Inc.s workshop or altered in any way so as, in the judgment of FAAC International, Inc. , to affect adversely the stability or reliability of the product(s) or has been subject of misuse, negligence, or accident, or has not been operated in accordance with FAAC International, Inc.s or FAAC S.p.A.s instructions or has been operated under conditions more severe than, or otherwise exceeding, those set forth in the specifications for such product(s). Neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAAC International, Inc., shall be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting, directly or indirectly, from the use or loss of use of the product(s). Without limiting the foregoing, this exclusion from liability embraces a purchasers expenses for downtime or for making up downtime, damages for which the purchaser may be liable to other persons, damage to property, and injury to or death of any persons. Neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAAC International, Inc., assumes nor authorizes any person to assume for them any other liability in connection with the sale or use of the products of FAAC S.p.A. or FAAC International, Inc. The warranty hereinabove set forth shall not be deemed to cover maintenance parts, including, but not limited to hydraulic oil, filters, or the like. No agreement to replace or repair shall constitute an admission by FAAC S.p.A. or FAAC International, Inc., of any legal responsibility to effect such replacement to make such repair, or otherwise. This limited warranty extends only to wholesale customers who buy directly through FAAC International, Inc.s normal distribution channels. FAAC International, Inc., does not warrant its products to end consumers. Consumers must inquire from their selling dealer as to the nature and extent of that dealers warranty, if any.
To the original purchaser only: FAAC International, Inc., warrants for the time period indicated in each products description (or product title page) from the date of invoice, the gate operator systems and other related systems and equipment manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for which it was intended provided it has been properly installed and operated. FAAC International, Inc.s obligations under this warranty shall be limited to the repair or exchange of any part or parts manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc. Defective products must be returned to FAAC International, Inc., freight prepaid by purchaser, within the warranty period. Items returned will be repaired or replaced, at FAAC International, Inc.s option, upon an examination of the product by FAAC International, Inc., which discloses, to the satisfaction of FAAC International, Inc., that the item is defective. FAAC International, Inc. will return the warranted item freight prepaid. The products manufactured by FAAC S.p.A. and distributed by FAAC International, Inc., are not warranted to meet the specific requirements, if any, of safety codes of any particular state, municipality, or other jurisdiction, and neither FAAC S.p.A. nor FAAC International, Inc., assumes any risk or liability whatsoever resulting from the use thereof, whether used singly or in combination with other machines or apparatus.
Limited Warranty
Important Notice Prices shown in this list are based on the availability of items when the price list was printed. Prices are subject to change without notice. A minimum billing charge of $25.00 net plus shipping cost will be billed for all orders received. Whenever possible, we suggest that you combine orders for all parts to surpass the minimum cost. Product delivery time is subject to product availability. We are not responsible for any damages caused by a delay in shipping or product availability. Pricing All quoted prices for products are discounted according to the list price provided in our most current pricing manual. Discounts quoted do not apply to special order items. Contact the factory for Dealer/Distributor pricing on special orders. Credit Terms We are pleased to offer one of the most generous discount terms available in the industry.
Our credit terms are net 30 days. Credit terms apply only to open accounts in good standing and only to merchandise. Balances remaining unpaid after the 30th day are subject to a 1.75% per month finance charge. This is an annual cost to you of 21%. We compute the finance charge by applying the 1.75% rate to the amount of the invoice past due for every month it is past due. The balance of your account is determined by taking the balance you owed at the end of the previous billing cycle and subtracting all payments and credits received during the current billing cycle. Accounts past due forty-five (45) days will be placed on credit hold until the account is brought up-to-date. Accounts over sixty (60) days past due that have no payment arrangements will be considered delinquent and subject to collection remedies. The dealer/distributor will be responsible for all collection expenses. A current signed credit application must be provided before an account is opened, subject to credit approval. Delivery All prices are quoted F.O.B. our factory. The purchaser is obligated to submit claims for damages or shortages of freight directly to the freight carrier within 30 days when due to carrier neglect.
Material Returned for Credit or Repair Goods may be returned for credit or exchange under certain conditions. You must contact the factory for instructions and an authorization number. Merchandise returned for credit must be current models, unused, and uninstalled - in new condition. Freight must be prepaid on all authorized returns to FAAC International, Inc. The repair or replacement of product and parts is subject to availability, and repair time is not guaranteed. We may have loaner operators available, and they are subject to rental charges. All damages to loaner operators are the responsibility of the Dealer/Distributor. Repaired or replaced parts carry a 90-day warranty. A 15% restocking charge will be applied to goods returned for credit. Goods returned for repair will be handled immediately when the following conditions exist: 2. The authorization number is clearly visible on the exterior of each package returned. 1. Name and address of sender are enclosed with material.
We will not be responsible for poorly packaged equipment. Shipments of 70 lb or less should be shipped via United Parcel Service.
3. A brief description of the problem and the requested repair is included with the shipment.
