January 15th 2014 Willians De Freitas Section 001 Journal 2 Evaluative comments about files The contents of the

files were easy to follow. Its instructions and information, which its level of difficulty in terms of vocabulary, but its explanations of the topics were easy to understand. The exercises were complementary because they had a bit of difficulty. The writing process was easy to understand and to follow its ideas. According to this file, writing isnt just writing words down on a separate sheet o f paper; its process takes time and energy with stages implied to follow. The difficult part is to organize the ideas, then to start writing. This is the stage that I need to improve, to rewrite my ideas in any topic in order to make it as good as possible. The next is reading, the steps explained in the file have helped me to improve my reading comprehension. Guessing meaning from context explains that context can be defined as the elements that surround a term and help clarify its meaning. The grammatical category of words will help understand of defines. So this is what I have to face as English student. Structural components of writing 1 talks about the sentence which is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. Writing effectively is the challenge which I need to improve. Scanning and Skimming are skills which the first is to look through a text in order to find a particular piece of information. The second, is reading a text quickly to understand the main ideas. They are helpful skills which arent difficult to use.

Structural components of writing III shows that a paragraph consists of a point of view and then offers support for that point. At the same time, is added that unity is one of the most important qualities of a good paragraph. So every idea should be related to a single topic, and every topic should relate the central idea. Coherence is the last theme in this file which is challenging because the topic sentence should be argued with evidence and it is not easy to cure. Drafting refers to the process of writing in order to organize our ideas. This process begins selecting important details and examples to explain and clarify. Then should be constructed by the main idea, even using a second sentence if ti is necessary. After that, should be selected what voice to use to rewrite the text. So drafting isnt just writing words on a paper, should be followed the steps that are already mentioned. So that, I consider that it isnt easy. Eventually in this file, a narrative paragraph tells a story that is meaningful, and its chronological. Descriptive paragraph describes people, animals or things which is used adjectives. Its challenge for me is that describing a place, a scene, and a person should be organized following their particular way. An expository paragraph presents facts, gives directions, and interprets facts, and so on. It has a chronological structure and its function is to explain or to acquaint your reading with a body of knowledge. A persuasive paragraph presents information to support or prove a point which its opinion tries to convince the reader. Its main structure is the topic sentence, controlling the idea(s). Using arguments werent easy for me because they should be presented considering its elements that are facts, opinions or belief, and its evidence should be reliable. The Belize Barrier Reef was a reading which refers to the second largest mass of leaving coral in the world. I did not know anything about this largest coral. This reading was easy to understand because it has simple vocabulary. By the way, there is a key words that help with the new words.

Cirque du Soleil was the next reading which was easy to understand. I learned about the origins of that group of young street performers were entertaining the crow of tourists in Canada. I knew a bit of it before the reading because I used to watch its performances on TV. Predicting was a practice which I really liked it. We needed to predict what the text is going to be about according to the tittle. It is a really good activity to active previews knowledge. The next reading was about talking in front of audience. It has vocabularies that I did not know. However, it was a formative reading and useful because it gives details about talking in front many people. It is in favor for us because we need to speak as English students. Writing definitions, a good exercise to test and improve vocabulary in this reading file. Here I faced how to organize my ideas and write simple definitions in order to anybody could understand the meaning of those word. To sum up, these files which have been discussed are good, especially for us as English student. Even though there were some files which arent used in class . Eventually for an English student who is taking this course. I would recommend to read regularly, work hard in his or her weakness in order to improve it.
