Here is a photo essay by Rob Hunt, a Ph.D. candidate at Prescott College. *The Banality of State Cruelty* Rob Hunt | Along the U.S.-Mexico Border | January 12, 2013 Field notes from 1/4/14 <https://www.blogger.com/null> I took pictures of what are simply human cages, for lack of a better term, along the Border between Sonora, Mexico and Arizona. They are blunt, mute and rusted metal mesh; they do not look anchored to the ground despite their standardized size: about ten feet by 12 feet by ten feet (approximations). Bars do not only top them; the upper rim is festooned in either barbed wire or concertina wire. As I drove and walked the length of the Border from Lochiel, Arizona to Douglas, Arizona, I encountered my first one at the San Pedro River. I did not see any more until I got within a couple of miles of Douglas/Agua Prieta, when I first saw one isolated. As I approached the crossing they became more numerous and their scattered dispositions made them look like carelessly placed backyard animal traps. All were just beyond the shadow of the wall sitting in a scraped-clear landscape next to the Border Patrols access road.
