Demonstrative Communication Demonstrative Communication Demonstrative Communication is the non-verbal and unwritten method of communication in which information is sent and received through the tone of voice one uses while speaking, body language, facial expressions, gestures, posture of an individual, etc. It plays a highly important role in communication as it is a more organized way of expressing feelings toward other people. It is the best way to know about the emotions running in the head of the speaker. In order to deliver an efficient speech a speaker must understand the importance of not only verbal but also non-verbal communication. In order for others to understand the core concept of communication, one should possess the demonstrative communication skills. When communicating with people the facial expressions of both the speaker and the listener plays an important role in understanding the exact meaning of that conversation. A smile on face would interpret as a positive sign that would strengthen the working environment and will also boost up the speakers confidence whereas an angry face or frown would give negative vibrations to the listener. The inappropriate use of Facial Expressions can give rise to the highest misunderstanding possible among peers. Studies have revealed that verbal statements and facial expressions are interlinked with each other by a synchrony phenomenon (J. Cassell and D.

McNeil). A grin at times can leave a charming affect on others whereas it can also reflect
arrogance on ones part. In situations which certain remarks can hurt someones feelings a laugh can cause a big damage that would be a negative expression however the same laugh in times of funny situations can lead to a positive expression. Speakers should understand the importance of body language when communicating with others. An eye contact while communicating reflects the confidence. It portrays the

Demonstrative Communication accumulation of knowledge that speaker carries with him. This attribute depicts the honesty in speakers words and also demands attention from the audience. In case this trait is missing in speakers communication the audience thinks they are being unnoticed and tends to get bored after a short span of time. Postures such as arm crossing and leg crossing in between can reflect the attitude that leaves a negative effect on the listeners. Body language should be maintained properly so that listeners get connected to the speech leading to a bond that further enhances the understanding toward the speech. The right body language will make the audience get more comfortable with the speaker and will allow him or her to participate in the conversation openly. This will produce a positive environment and listeners will be able to perceive the true meaning of the message. This is an important factor that plays a vital role in the foundation of an effective communication. Tone of voice plays an important role as it leaves a direct impression on the listeners. Pleasant tone of voice is a key to successful speech as it leaves a positive effect on the listeners. However, a negative effect is left on the audience whenever a speaker yells, or talks unclear, or stumbles during a speech. It portrays the nervousness and the lack of confidence in ones speech. The listeners feel intimidated if the speaker raises the tone of his speech above that appropriate level that will thereby cause a hindrance in proper communication. The Listeners tend to lose focus in the communication if they perceive that the communicator is stumbling in the speech as that reflects lack of confidence, and this will cause a communication failure. It is noted that at times the communication through touch also conveys the right message of affection toward others. The sense of affection directly correlates with the communication through touch. This notion leaves a positive effect on the loved ones and especially on younger generation who feel more connected when touched during a pleasant conversation. However, it

Demonstrative Communication can lead to negative results as some people considers touching as an inappropriate gesture so speaker should be very careful when performing this act. Personal space while making conversation is another important type of non-verbal communication. The appropriate space is a key element in making a remarkable speech. A speaker should always keep this in mind while communicating as it induces a sense of comfort among the peers. A comfort zone is highly important in order for an efficient communication to take place. Standing too close while talking can intimidate the audience thereby producing a negative effect on the people. One should follow carefully the points mentioned above while communicating. The audience perceives the correct ideas and the intended message from the speaker only when the speaker takes the above mentioned points in consideration. Effective communication can improve ones relationship at not only home but also with friends and at workplaces (Lawrence Robinson & Jeanne Segal). One should focus on both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to develop the right communication strategy. It is very important to develop a right positive strategy as communication determines the future courses of action by the people.
