FADE IN: EXT. FIELD - NIGHT

No moon and no clouds. Faint colors twists through the blackness. A meteor stream across the sky. A mob of high school kids gather in a circle. At the center of the circle ADAM ALBERTSON(18) squares up with a FIGHTER. Adam strikes the fighter in the temple. The fighter stumbles backwards and then comes at Adam and grapples him around the waist. Adam throws elbows downwards. The fighter drops to his back. Adam mounts and pummels him. The crowd cheers for violence. Several kids from the crowd pull Adam off of the fighter. The fighter gets back up. He comes at Adam and slugs him in the face. Adam is bloody. The fighter is much worse. The circle moves around as they fight. The fighter gets a few good blows in. Adam is furious. comes back and beats the fighter to the ground. Adam continues his barrage on the ground. The fighter is unconscious. Adam persists. INT. CAR - NIGHT He

A bloodied head leans against the window. Adams breath fogs the window and fades with each exhale. Music blares from the car speakers. Adams FRIENDS talk over the music. Their conversation is drowned out. Adam doesnt pay any attention to them. He stares out the window at the street lights as the pass. ADAMS FRIEND #1 Adam. Adam doesnt turn. Adam finishes his piss. He washes his hands in the sink without breaking contact with his own eyes in the mirror. He washes his face. The blood streams down the drain. He pulls the skin down from his face as he drags his hands from his forehead towards his neck. From his back pocket he pulls a bag of cocaine and drops it onto the counter. He pulls a picture frame off its hook and lays it down over the sink. He pours half the contents on the glass. He pulls a credit card from his wallet and breaks apart the mound into three lines. He grabs a dollar from his wallet and rolls it into a cylinder. One.

His eyes tear.

He shakes his head.

This one hits harder. He leans back against the door. Someones pounding on it now. The noise of the party gets louder. He gives this one a minute to sink in. Three. Now hes smiling. The noise is blaring, he loves it. throws the frame violently against a wall. Glass shatters. Adam smiles at the destruction. INT. ENTRYWAY. PARTY - NIGHT The smile never leaves. He

Adam weaves through the bodies. GIRL Adam! ADAM How you doing? He wanders aimlessly. GUY Whats up? ADAM Hows it going?

Adam never stays to carry out the conversation. He finds his way to the source of the music. A speaker system sits against the wall. Adam is drawn to it. He places his hand several inches in front of it. A flat screen with a large hole in the center rests in between two large speakers. Cracks spread from the hole to the edges of the screen. Adam traces the cracks on the TV. His eyes widen and his smile deepens. He turns to face the horde of dancers. into the middle. He forces his way

Everything is muffled but the music. A girl clings onto his shoulder. He begins to dance with her without ever looking at her.

Adam is with several others. He picks up a shard of glass and places it onto the counter. He pulls another packet of cocaine and dumps it onto the glass. INT. LIVING ROOM. PARTY - NIGHT A different girl now.

Adam is back in the living room. INT. BATHROOM. PARTY - NIGHT

Adam is alone in the bathroom. The noise dulls and Adams smile fades. Theres blood on the ground with the glass. Adam finds a small piece thats clean. He covers it in powder. He snorts the rest and repeats. The noise returns. INT. LIVING ROOM. PARTY - NIGHT

A third girl dances close to Adam. He puts his hands on her hips and she reaches back to touch his neck. INT. ALBERTSON POOL - NIGHT

Adam sits on a couch across from his high school COUNSELOR. He looks comically big in this miniature couch. COUNSELOR I dont think I can let you drop Calcul-ADAM If I dont drop it, Im going to fail. COUNSELOR Itll give you AP credit for next year. ADAM Im talking about this year. Adam extends the forms to her. ADAM (CONTD) Is there any way you can sign the forms? She pushes them back. Willow, Hank, Adam and HENRY(20) sit around a table. The room is dim and the only other diners are in the opposite corner. A wall of windows with wooden detail look out onto the eighteenth green. HENRY Its a lot of work, but Im enjoying it. Willow places her hand on Henrys arm. WILLOW Im glad youre liking school, and Im glad youre home. Hank pats Henry on the shoulder. A metal chain rattles near the ceiling. It holds a black punching bag several feet off the ground. Adam pounds the bag with gloved hands. INT. ALBERTSON GYM - LATER

Sweat beads down Adams forehead. The bag jumps up and down with his punches. It floats up and crashes down yanking the chain with it. INT. ALBERTSON GYM - LATER

Adam fires as fast as he can. He throws off the gloves and continues to berate the bag. Dust from the ceiling drifts down as the bag jerks. He re-opens the wounds on his knuckles. Blood drips down his forearm. He slumps against the wall and slides to the ground.

28. INT. ALBERTSON POOL - NIGHT

Blood drips from Adams forearms. He steps to the edge of the pool. He drops to a knee and dips his hands into the pool. The water around them turns a cloudy pink. When he pulls them out the rash returns. severe. His veins are a deep blue. INT. ALBERTSON LIBRARY - NIGHT Its more

Adams hair is wet. His knuckles are wrapped. He approaches his father who sits in a chair reading a book. ADAM Theres something wrong with the pool. 30. POOL INSPECTOR (CONTD) The pool will be safe again after three days. The inspector dumps the powder into the pool. He walks around the perimeter to make sure it spreads evenly. Hank follows. Adam browses Facebook on his laptop. He scrolls through pictures of Emma. In many of them she hangs on Frisco. He stops on one in which she is kissing him on the cheek. Adam closes his laptop and grabs the boxing gloves. INT. ALBERTSON STAIRWAY - NIGHT

Adam punches his hands into the gloves as he flies down the stairwell. INT. POOL - CONTINUOUS

Adam focuses on his hands. He walks through the pool room to the gym. A pulsating glow emanates from the pool. It stops him in his tracks. He walks towards the pool and unstraps the boxing glove from his right hand. He squats down and stares in awe at the glow. His hand hovers half a foot above the surface of the water. The water stretches towards his fingertips like a magnet. He moves his hand an inch closer. The water leaps at his finger tips. Adam jumps backwards. The water on his hand moves unnaturally up his wrist. Adam shakes his hand and wipes the water off. After a few moments the rash appears. of his veins. It follows the path

Gurneys line the hallways. Through the windows are empty patient room and medical equipment. Adam checks behind him. No one. Much less foot traffic in this wing. He checks the doors as he moves through the corridors. All vacant. He doubles back when he sees the metal doors. Through the glass he sees Emma sleeping. He runs to the door. INT. QUARANTINE ROOM - CONTINUOUS

He grabs the card from his pocket and slides it across the scanner. The first door opens. Adam steps in. An alarm sounds. INT. The second door closes behind Adam.

102. SANJAY Stand down. Evo maintains its posture. SANJAY (CONTD) Take it down. A dart sinks into Evos neck. The skin around the dart darkens. Evo pulls the dart from its neck and drops it. The darkness spread across its skin until it is uniform. INT. QUARANTINE ROOM - NIGHT

Adam yanks on the handle of the second door. He steps back and kicks the door repeatedly. Its dents, but doesnt break. With his ninth kick, the door toppled forwards. The room begins to fill with gas. Emma and Adam choke. Adam covers his mouth with his arm. Adam pulls the IVs from Emmas arm. The heartrate monitor flatlines. Emma coughs violently. Adam pulls her off the table onto the ground. Emmas eyes flutter back into his head. ADAM We have to go. EMMA Go where? ADAM We have to get out come on. EXT. FOREST - NIGHT SANJAY Stand down! Emma lays on the ground curled into a ball. ADAM Come on Emma. I dont want to leave you. His voice cracks. Emma rolls and pulls him next to her. EMMA Stay here. ADAM We dont have time. Just before hes completely gone a light from his hand travels into Emmas arm and up into her chest. Adam dissapears completely. Emma takes a deep breathe. She sits up and watches the dust leave the room. Her face crumbles. She buries her head in her arms and sobs. Then she begins to turn to dust, much faster than Adam did. Her dust chases Adams. INT. FOREST - DAWN

Several of the soldiers hoist Evos body onto a stretcher. Evo starts to turn to dust that flows into the sky. The butterfly flaps its wings over the forest as Evos dust surrounds it. Two other clouds of dust join it. The dust dissipates and the butterfly continues over the forest. EXT. ALBERTSON GARDEN - DAY

Willow tends to her garden. The butterfly floats down onto a bush. Shes about to chop it when she sees the butterfly. She stops and observes it. It lifts off. She watches it flutter away. She sits down in the grass. EXT. ROOFTOP - CONTINUOUS

The butterfly flies towards the roof where Henry is sitting. It lands on his knee for a moment before plunging down into the house through an open sunroof. INT. POOL - CONTINUOUS

Hank floats on his back looking up at the sky through the window which is now repaired. The butterfly lands on Hanks chest. but doesnt move. He looks down at it,
