1) Running in why is it required?
Ans The new liner and piston have surface asparities and to remove these asparities running
in is done.
c/Q is it needed in both 2S and 4S?

Ans No in recent developments of 4S the liner is fully honned and piston rings pre profiled so
not required
C/Q what about two stroke?
Ans: ALU coated piston rings are used.
C/Q whats the property of ALU?
Ans: it wears down faster

Ans: vertical mis alignment

3)4S engine connecting rod why does ovality come after some time?
Ans: In the case of 4S the con rod undergoes both compressive and tensile stresses because
during the cycle at times the inertia force is more than the firing force...got a tick
4)Boiler safety valve setting?
Ans : told should be done with a class surveyor...take water in the boiler he said start from the
boiler is already steaming......so it was the normal stuff gag one valve...etc

function 6:started wid type of ships said bulky nd crude oil tanker
1) asked what type of deck seal:- i said wet type asked me to draw nd xplain did it...den asked
what oder types of deck seals r dere:-i said semi dry & dry asked for deir diagrams as
well....dint knw dt...u can find i in datta,also asked safety of deck seal:- low water level alarm
and also hw d water goes out...it goes ovbd from d overflow line only in d diagram...
2)purifier desludging operation....guyz for dis v all knw it theoretically but drawing d diagram is
important dere...i messed up in dt a lil....he started giggling @ it..so do d diagram thoroughly
for dt..

3) reasons for refer short cycling...told him undercharge,lp pr. cu out setting wrong to this he
asked me what is d actual cut in & cut out for lp:- i said cut out @ 2.5 nd cut in @ 1.5 he
asked if i was sure, i said yes....den asked d same for ac too....thought for a while den he said
what gas do u use in it i said for both v use R404 to which he said if gas is same den wht
shud d cut in cut off be...i said same only as cudnt remember nythin till dt time so he dint say
nythin to dis....so im not sure if it is correct or not..
function 4b:1)draw diagram of m/e holding down bolts....u can get it from marine diesels ....i drew it but
not properly....he den asked what do dey restrict vertical or horizontol movement of engine....i
said horizontol as v have end chocks ton restrict d horizontol movement....also asked hw to
check wheder dese bolts r lose...i said hammer testing nd also wid tommy bar...
2) generator not turning on air reasons.....i told him d reasons nd one of dem was startin air
distributor not functioning properly to which he got xcited nd started askin hw is it nd its
function....to basically khudh hi marwaali ismei to...
motor mei i thnk dere were one or two more questions....but cnt remeber dem nw....basically
this gud needs gud diagrams which r self xplanatory...he den asked me hw did i do...i said i
was kk....den he told me to wait outside nd called me later nd again started askin if c/case
omd alarm sounds wat u will do...dnt tell him dt u will evacuate...firstly find out d trueness of d
alarm....after informing bridge nd c/e...nd den take furder actions..
also hw do v take c/shaft deflections in a/e:-told him d procedure following safety...
den he said kk u r pass in function 6 repeat 4b....

1.Ships done...tol him sulzer and uec...
Difference between them. explained him 2 to 3 points satisfied.
2. Crosshead lubrication in sulzer and B&w engines.
Told him sulzer 16bar oil pr...when pr comes down oil will lift the pin and passes sideways...in
B&w explained him grooves r provided at sides...
3.What is CCAI...tol him it tells abt ignition lag prop of fuel...
What will u do if CCAI high in 2S and 4S engines
2s i said in sulzer FQS is ter asked me actually what r u doing...told him we will advance
timing ...he wanted to here tis...4s i said wll adjust shims size below fuel pump...he told
everytime u wl keep on changing shims or what...i didnt have answer for that...
4.What is trimetal bearing where do u use it
Drew it...we use it in 4s engines
What is thick shell thin shell bearings...bearing less than 3 mm thin shell...3 mm to 4.5mm
thick shell... he got satisfied.
