Beginner I (30 hours)

• This course is an introduction to the form, meaning, and usage of basic structures in
English or French.
• Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired sufficient vocabulary to cope
with simple survival needs and to succeed in daily situations at work, including making
introductions, telephoning and getting to know someone.
• Grammar includes simple verb tenses (past, present, future).
• Activities include simple dialogues, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, pronunciation,
and computer-assisted language learning (varies according to student’s ability to use a
computer).

Beginner II (30 hours)

• This beginner course offers students the opportunity to develop the basic structures
learned in the Beginner l level. Students learn to express themselves using the past,
present and future tenses.
• Students learn simple vocabulary and should feel comfortable in basic situations,
including describing persons, places and things, talking about their family, hobbies and
interests, as well as participating in activities relating to work and travel.
• Activities include dialogues, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and computer-assisted
language learning (varies according to student’s ability to use a computer).

Intermediate I (30 hours)

• Students have already studied the basic structures of the language.

• Upon completion of this course, students will have a demonstrated increase in
confidence, a high degree of grammatical control, and the ability to vary sentence
structures to avoid repetition.
• Students learn more complex structures of question formation, and verb tenses including
present, past, future and perfect tenses.
• Knowledge of general and work-related vocabulary.
• Students will learn to express themselves more easily in situations such as receiving and
giving information, giving opinions, offering help, expressing regret, as well as expressing
themselves about habits, past actions, current events and future plans.
• Activities include communicative exercises, grammar, reading, writing, speaking, role-
playing, pronunciation, and computer-assisted language learning (varies according to
student’s ability to use a computer).

Intermediate II (30 hours)

• Learners develop their language skills with activities related to everyday life and work
situations.
• Students at this level will develop a good command of a broad lexical repertoire, in order
to express themselves without hesitating.
• They will possess the necessary skills to speak freely and to hold conversations on a
wide range of topics, including personal, professional and current events. This course will
develop work-related and general vocabulary, including describing things, comparing,
talking about intentions, expressing interests and preferences.
• Activities include communicative exercises, grammar, role-playing, pronunciation
exercises.

Advanced I (30 hours)

• This course focuses on complex structures of the target language. Students will perfect
the knowledge acquired in the second language.
• Upon completion students will be able to communicate for an extended period of time.
• Possess a high degree of grammatical accuracy and fluency, very few errors are made.
• Students are expected to complete complex activities using all the grammatical aspects
and communicative abilities they have acquired.
• Students have a good command of a broad lexical repertoire including idiomatic
expressions.
• Very good written and oral language skills.
• Activities include reading, writing, speaking and computer assisted language learning (will
vary with student’s ability to use a computer).

Advanced II (30 hours)

• Students have a very strong knowledge of the target language.

• Written and oral communication skills are similar to that of the student’s mother tongue.
• Students have a good command of a very broad lexical repertoire including idiomatic
expressions.
• Activities include reading, writing, speaking and computer assisted language learning (will
vary with student’s ability to use a computer).
