Proposal For Wearing a statement FEMA Productions

Full outline of Programme Idea Fashion Documentary on Why people wear what they wear. If they wear certain clothes to fit in or make a statement. Quick outline on how fashion has changed over the past century and includes major fashion groups e.g Hippies, Mods, Rockers etc. Then go around looking at the different parts of Manchester and the type of people who shop there. For example look around Afflecks palace and talk to the people in the shop/ people who are shopping there about why they wear what they wear and if they do it to fit in with their friends or purposely to separate them from society. Then go to the Northern Quarter/Vintage shops and interview people and ask them the same sort of questions. Then go to St Anns square/Harvey Nichols. Ask them how much they spend on their clothes and if they spend that much because they are practical or because they can afford it. Target woman and men to interview with a variety of ethnicities, who stand out by what they are wearing. Go for certain groups like Emos? Indies? Main stream? Designer? Maybe talk to a Manchester fashion student for a professional view and ask them what they think.

Character names, profiles and relationships The relevance of the contributor; Each persons opinion will be relevant; no matter what they are wearing they will all have a different reason for wearing it. Expert input; Maybe talk to a Manchester Fashion student who are studying that subject and see what they think about the situation. Groups of people; Ask a stereotypical Goth/Emo in Afflecks palace. Ask a stereotypical Indie/Vintage from the Northern quarter. Ask a stereotypical business man wearing a designer suit in Harvey Nichols. Ask a mainstream Topshop/Topman shopper. (Between the ages of (16-25)Both genders and mix of ethnicities. We hope to gain an insight of the reasons of why different people wear different clothes/style. How much people will spend on their clothes and what it means to them. We will place them in front of the shop we think they will stereotypically shop at. Long shots/close ups. Everyone will be wearing different clothes therefore all have different views and opinions what fashion is and why they wear it.

Narrative ideas for first Episode We are going to go to different shops and talk to the stereotypical people who live there, asking what they are wearing and why. What they think of other peoples fashion. How much they would spend on their outfit.

Why the programme idea will work (target audience) Target audience can be people interested in fashion or interested in the retail market. Females/Fashionable males aged 15-30 will be most likely to watch it. It will work as it will give exclusive insights to societies fashion groups and individuality.

Where/When will it be broadcast and why It will be broadcasted on Channel 4 at 7:30 after Hollyoakes. I think this would be appropriate as Channel 4 is the main channel for Documentaries and as students watch Hollyoakes they may also be interested in the Documentary.
