Antigone and Ismene are together and Antigone wants to bury Polyneices body even though it has been declared illegal by Creon. Creon arrests the two and threatens to kill them. Haemon becomes involved and begs for him not to kill his lover. Antigone is taken to a cave to die. She hangs herself. Haemon goes to find him and after he sees she has hanged himself he commits suicide as well. Creon finds them too late to stop any of this. His wife Eurydice, when she finds out, commits suicide as well over the death of her son. Ion Hermes Ion son of Creusa and Apollo Chorus Creusa Xuthus husband of Creusa Old Man servant of Creusa Priestess of Apollo Athena Creusa has been raped by Apollo. Ion is working at the temple. Creusa comes looking for a son because she and Xuthus are childless. Ion sympathizes with her. Xuthus also goes to the temple to ask the gods for a child. He comes out and sees Ion and assumes that he is his son because of the oracle from the gods. He doesnt tell Creusa and plans a secret party. A servant tells Creusa and she plans to kill Ion out of jealousy. Back at the temple, the priestess brings out the basket Ion was found in and he is found to be Creusas son. Athena makes everything right in the end. Orestes Electra daughter of Agamemnon Helen Wife of Menelaus and sister of Clytemnestra Chorus Orestes son of Agamemnon Menelaus brother of Agamemnon Pylades friend of Orestes Tyndareos father of Clytemnestra and Helen Hermione daughter of Helen Messenger Phrygian Apollo Orestes is plagued by the furies and not in his right mind. Electra is protecting him. Helen comes to mourn for Clytemnestra but it hated by all. Pylades, Electra, and Orestes plot to kill Helen and kidnap Hermione because Menelaus refused to help Orestes become king. Orestes attempts to kill Helen but she is taken up by the gods. Hermione is then help captive and Menelaus comes back. Apollo appears once again to make everything right. Teiresias blind prophet Menoeceus son of Creon Messengers Oedipus former king Polyneices has been cast out and is coming to try and make peace with Eteocles. Jocasta attempts to go between to make peace between the brothers. Teiresias prophesies that Menoeceus must be sacrificed to save the city so he sacrifices himself. Meanwhile Polyneices is outside the city gates attacking. Then Polyneices and Eteocles decide to go to hand to hand combat. They kill eachother at the same time and Jocasta arrives to find them both dying. Out of misery she commits suicide as well. Antigone goes back and tells Oedipus who is then cast out by Creon. Antigone says she will share the same fate with her father.
