How did he get away with it for so long? Jimmy Savile victims demand single inquiry into how he evaded justice
Lawyer representing 60 alleged victims said things could be missed The BBC, NHS and 32 hospitals are all involved in various investigations There are 214 criminal offences against Savile from 28 police forces

There are several investigations currently ongoing involving the BBC, NHS and various hospitals

Victims of Jimmy Savile have called for a single, overarching inquiry into how the serial sex offender was able to evade justice for so long. They fear the truth will be lost because there are too many separate investigations. The BBC says its independent inquiry into what the corporation knew about Savile is due to publish its findings this month. The NHS is also holding several investigations. Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced in November

that a further 19 hospitals were now carrying out inquiries into links with Savile. But Alan Collins, the solicitor representing around 60 victims who reported being abused by Savile, said yesterday: There are now so many inquiries taking place there is a danger that an opportunity to get to the whole truth may be lost. Victims want one inquiry led by a High Court judge with considerable experience in criminal law, who would have access to all the work undertaken by the other investigations. Mr Collins added: We have a number of inquiries under way at the moment there must be at least a dozen we have got the BBC being investigated, Broadmoor, Leeds General Hospital, various NHS investigations and the police and Crown Prosecution Service. While individually they may do an excellent job reports will come out and will no doubt be extremely useful the fact is that those who are investigating are not necessarily benefiting from the other investigations. People want the truth. They want two questions answered: How? And why? Thats all they want. But there has to be a political will for this to happen. If it is to happen it needs to be done through Parliament. One 64-year-old victim, who was abused by Savile aged 15, told the BBC: There are too many individual inquiries, far too many. Surely it would be best... if there was just one inquiry led by someone competent and, when all the evidence was gathered from up and down the country, they collated it and then we might know exactly why Jimmy Savile got away with serious sexual abuse for nearly 50 years.

Savile, who presented Top Of The Pops and Jimll Fix It, died aged 84 in October 2011, a year before the allegations were broadcast in an ITV documentary. A report by Scotland Yard and the NSPCC found he used his celebrity status to hide in plain sight, with 214 criminal offences recorded against him across 28 police forces. The report also revealed that Savile abused his victims at 14 medical sites including hospitals, mental health units even a hospice. The NSPCC agreed that there needs to be a way to pull together all the lessons learned from the various inquiries but warned against stopping or subsuming existing investigations. The charity added that setting up a single inquiry could delay answers for years.

Click to rate LERENARD, Love n Light, United Kingdom, 15 hours ago He evaded justice because he was very well connected with like minded people in high places. A real inquiry needs to establish who these individuals were or still are, but they too are well protected by an establishment that closes ranks to prevent scandal.

Click to rate riccar, birmingham, United Kingdom, 15 hours ago How did he get away with it for so long ? Simple...with the help of the police, bbc and his political friends who all had a reason to cover for him...bearing in mind that Savile was not simply a predatory pedo operating on his own....that couldnt happen, he would have soon been hanged out...no,these things about and around Savile go much deeper and wider...If a full scale inquiry is held I guarantee this...held behind closed doors...and at some point it will be run down and closed as soon as it gets too close to people in the establishment....Conspiracy nut ? No,just look at what we know at the moment and you will see all the signposts are there.

Click to rate AgnesR, London, United Kingdom, 16 hours ago Although a lot of people out there may think we have heard about this far too much already, I think this inquiry is crucial. The fact that this disgusting sick man has been not only left alone but praised on a national level while secretly protected for decades makes me shudder and we should make sure it never ever happens again. This is so shameful for our country. Anyone who protected him should be named.

Rude, aloof, lazy and arrogant does not even begin to describe them.
