WHAT IS SEED PROGRAMME?


SEED Programme is a reading programme in the aim at exposing students to new
vocabularies and useful phrases of English. The target vocabularies and phrases are
provided with Malay translation, which will guide the students through their reading. The
reading materials are sourced from newspaper articles, namely; The Star and The New
Straits Times which are regarded as authentic material. The use of authentic materials in
the classroom will benefit the students as the exposure to the real langauge in the real
context is being implemented. Other aspects which prove positive when using authentic
materials are, they are highly motivating, giving a sense of achievement when understood
and encourage further reading to the learners. Furthermore, the language used is versatile
and updated which will further ease the teaching and learning process. In the same vein,
learners will encounter the real world language and how it is being utilized as opposed to
the artificial language used in the text book. It is hoped that the SEED programme will
grow the students from a small, innocent seed to a proficient learner of English language.
Therefore, teachers play a pivotal role in preparing and make aware of the necessary
skills on how to used language in the real world context.
OBJECTIVES OF SEED READING COMPETITION
1. To access students reading skills after a period of time.
2. To boost students confidence in reading fluently.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SEED READING COMPETITION


The competition will take place during the morning assembly. 3 students from each class
will be selected to participate in the competition. Those students are selected based on
their command of English as most of them ranged from middle to low achiever. This is
done to instill a good reading skill and confidence among students in the aim of
producing good, proficient readers. The articles are ranged from various topics which
provides the room for students to learn variety of phrases and vocabularies. 2 English
teachers are assigned at a time to evaluate students reading with the criteria of
pronunciation, enunciation, intonation and fluency are taken into consideration.
