Valuable Things
Vancouver is indeed a beautiful city, Im sure you would agree. We live in a very favourable part of the world with all its multicultural diversity and variety, choices and options. As with most major cities life can get so full and so busy we can easily neglect the things that are of great value. I wonder what it is that you value most in this life. As we have seen and heard lately, there have been countries that have been devastated by natural disasters. Food and water are of the greatest need, a precious commodity in dire circumstances. Such tragedy can and does change what we count to be important.

ourselves as God sees us, for the Bible tells us we have come short of His standard. The Bible urges us to think about serious matters of life and death so that we might be prepared to leave this life and enter into Gods presence. He has provided a way through His Son, Jesus Christ. Unless we accept Gods way of salvation we will miss out on the most valuable gift we could ever posses. This gift is received by faith to those who realize their need of Gods forgiveness for their sin and believe what He says in His Word. The Bible says,

Political problems abound, as they always have, but we can be thankful we do not live under a dictator or a tyrannical government. Political unrest and fear have a stronghold in the Middle East and its neighbouring countries. Every individual values his or her freedom, but not all are able to experience it. It may be family, friends, career or possessions that we give a place of importance, and rightly so, but I wonder what value you put on

God and His Word, the Bible. Perhaps you have not given it much thought or felt a need to look into what it is that many people have died for and many more have lived for. The Bible is the place to start when we want to pursue the truth. Is the truth something you place value on? God states that the truth about Himself and the truth about ourselves are the most valuable things we can know. Its not always easy to see

The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Stella Huangs Personal Story

tella was a senior journalist in China. All her educational background and work experience were based on the theory of communism. Before coming to Canada she had never heard anything about the gospel, the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. In the spring of 2002, the second day after landing in Canada, she was invited to see a baptism at Carleton Gospel Hall. From that day she started to attend Sunday school and all the meetings there. Later she became a student in the English Bible circle, too. She came to understand that there is a God, but couldnt admit she was a sinner. She had lots of questions and doubts. It just seemed so hard to believe. She felt that since she wasnt young any more, she wasnt going to believe anything so easily. She wanted to be very careful about any decision regarding spiritual things. She liked learning English from the Bible study but she didnt want to become a Christian or be baptized, because she feared these things might be dangerous to her family. However, Gods assembly still attracted her to keep coming to the meetings. She got lots of help for daily life from the Christians around her. After a period of time studying in the class and attending all the meetings, she finally realized she really was a sinner and nothing but the blood of Jesus could save her from falling into hell after death. When the Bible study came to Matthew 17: 20 where Jesus said to His disciples, If ye have faithnothing shall be impossible unto you, the verse touched her heart. On August 15, 2002, she made her final decision and put all her faith in Jesus Christ. She just believed Him and from that moment she was saved.

Daniel Singhs Personal Story

Soccer Camp Gym Night

was born in Fiji in 1964 and immigrated to the Vancouver area with my parents when I was 18 months old. I was raised in the Hindu faith. In 1973, some men from the Carleton Gospel Hall visited our neighborhood, inviting youth to their Sunday School. After a few visits, my dad allowed me to go. My parents would take me to the Hindu home temples on special occasions but I still attended Sunday School. There I learned more about the God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ and why He was so important. I learned a Bible verse in Sunday School, John 3:16; For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. When I was about 11, there was a death in the family and I saw how uncertain people around me were about what the future held. But this verse spoke of knowing for sure where I could be after I died. I thought Christianity was a white persons religion, but I quickly learned that Christ gave His life for the whole world regardless of skin color. I was invited to a Sunday evening gospel service and heard from the Bible about the life and death of Jesus Christ, why He died on the cross and our problem called sin. I learned that everyone has this same problem. Romans 3:23 was quoted, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. God was speaking to me and I felt accountable to Him. I really wanted to know that I would be in heaven when I died. On November 11, 1980 a Christian friend asked me Dan, are you saved? No one had asked that before. I knew he meant have I received Jesus Christ as my Savior? I couldnt answer Him. If I said yes, I would be lying to God and him. Later, alone in my bedroom, my mind racing with many thoughts, I got on my knees and started talking with God. I was sorry for rejecting His Son this long. I felt I had slapped God in the face when He offered me the gift of His Son. I said Thank you for your Son who gave His life on the cross for my sin. Right then, I had a peace inside and I knew I was nally right with God.

Let us introduce ourselves.

Have you ever wondered about 45th & Tyne? Our roots in this area actually go all the way back to 1932 when we started as a Sunday School located on Kingsway. In 1953 we moved to our current location at 45th and Tyne and in 1966 began fully functioning as a church with weekly worship and gospel services. We continue to this day as a small group of Christians from this area who simply try to follow what the Bible says and apply it to our lives and to how we function together. We model ourselves after what the Bible teaches us about the New Testament Church, and try to follow its pattern and simplicity. Wed love to have you visit us. You wont find anything flashy or extravagant, just real people who love God, His Word and try to live it out daily. If youre wondering about Christianity, eternity, and why youre here on this earth, please come find out what the Bible says. Wed love to meet you and you will be warmly welcomed. CARLETON GOSPEL HALL
