Faulconer Campaign Opens Doors at Newest Headquarters in Southeastern San Diego

Mayoral Candidate Shares Message of Inclusion with More Than 100 Supporters and Leaders from African American, Asian American and Latino Communities

SAN DIEGO More than 100 supporters from across San Diego, including leaders from the Southeastern San Diego community, joined City Councilmember Kevin Faulconer today as he kicked off his mayoral campaign ahead of the February 11, 2014, special runoff election. Faulconer and leaders from the African American, Asian American and Latino communities held a rally at his newest campaign headquarters on Logan Avenue, opened as part of Faulconers vision for creating One San Diego where every community is safe and vibrant.

Mayoral candidate Kevin Faulconer said, Today we shared my inclusive vision for San Diego, where all residents, including from our Asian American, Latino and African American communities, have a seat at the table. Our city will be at its best when every community is safe and vibrant, and every San Diegan has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Under my administration, the City will play a transformative role in revitalizing communities and attracting private investment to ensure that every San Diegan has equal access to economic prosperity, quality education and safe surroundings.

Reverend George Walker Smith, founder of the Catfish Club and Christ United Presbyterian Church in South Park, and known for his leadership on issues of equality and education, said, Ive known Kevin while hes been on the City Council for the past seven years. Ive always known Kevin Faulconer as a man of integrity.

Pastor Ricky Laster of New Assurance Baptist Church in Rolando said, I joined with these pastors to support Kevin Faulconer because we know he will be a great leader for communities of color, everybody south of Interstate 8, and all of San Diego as a whole. Ive been working with Kevin for the past seven years. We need folks who have the same di versity ideas as we do, where they want to see everybody have an opportunity to participate, including African Americans and people of color. Kevin has done that with us for the last seven years, and I know as a fact things are only going to be better when hes mayor of San Diego.

The new Logan Avenue headquarters will allow the Faulconer campaign to better maintain a citywide campaign and serve as a second location for various volunteer operations including phone calls, precinct walking, and yard sign pick up. Following the rally, volunteers fanned out across the city to talk to voters about Faulconers inclusive vision for San Diego.
