PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Description A. This Sections covers providing all materials, and equipment for complete piping and ducting support systems including all accessories required to complete the Work acceptable to Saudi Aramco Representative. All piping and ducting shall be adequately and permanently supported to prevent failure or excessive deformation of piping, ducting or supporting structure, and to minimize noise and vibration.

Quality Assurance A. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 General A. All hangers shall be adjustable while under load. Where lateral or axial pipe or duct movement is anticipated, suitable linkages are to be provided so that hanger rods will be subjected to tensile loads only. Hanger rods shall be continuously threaded, and of material furnished by one of the approved hanger manufacturers or of ASTM A36, but must be no less than the size shown in standard sheets for given conditions.

B. Locate all supports with due regard for maximum loads (such as operating loads, test loads, wind loads, etc.), allowable forces and moments on equipment connections, expansion or contraction of piping from ambient to operating conditions, and effects of loads on structure beyond immediately supporting system. It is intended that support systems be designed for controlled flexibility. Systems design to include provision for anticipated settlement at Site. Contractor shall coordinate the piping and ducting support system and comply with the structural Sections of these Specifications, as to type and locations of pipe supports from concrete roof and/or metal steel decking. Provide supports at changes of direction, but at locations that will not limit system flexibility.

Supports for Ducting A. All duct hangers and spacing shall conform to the latest SMACNA standards. Upper attachment to steel members shall be by means of a beam clamp on narrow flange beams (Grinnel Figure 218 or approved equal) and a beam C-clamp with a retaining clamp (Grinnel Figures 88/89 or approved equal) on wide flange beams. Alternatively precast concrete inserts similar to C-475 Saudi Super Strut or approved equal may be used. Concentrate load per insert shall not exceed 34 kg in case of inserts in second floor slab and shall not exceed 22 kg in case of roof slab. Hanger spacing may be reduced to less than specified in SMACNA in order not to exceed the loading. Wire hangers shall not be used. All ducts shall be braced and stiffened so as not to breathe, rattle, vibrate or sag in compliance with SMACNA standards. Welding to structural beams for duct hangers may be done only with prior approval by Saudi Aramco Representative.

Supports for Piping A. Piping system shall be supported in accordance with ANSI/ASME B.31.9 and MSS-SP-69. In general, horizontal pipe located 1 meter or higher above a floor is to be hung from above, and pipe within 1 meter of the floor is to be supported by stand or piers. Extra supports will be provided, if there is to be a valve installed. Plastic pipe shall be supported in accordance with Saudi Aramco Standards, as a minimum, and shall be continuously supported

where required by ambient or operating conditions, and material characteristics. C. Maximum acceptable span between piping supports shall be as per IPC Table 308.5. Provide supports for piping, suitable for grading, alignment, and movement due to expansion. Locate supports within 2 ft (600mm.) of each change in direction of piping. Select all pipe supports with minimum safety factor of 5 based on ultimate tensile strength of material. Support, anchor and guide all piping to preclude failure or deformation. Construct and install hangers, supports, anchors, guides and accessories to the approval of Saudi Aramco Representative. Do not use wire, tape or metal bands. Supports shall be designed to support weight of pipe, weight of fluid and weight of pipe insulation. Fasten piping securely to the structure without overstressing any portion of the supports or the structure itself. Secure pipe supports, anchors and guides to concrete by means of inserts of if greater load carrying capacity is required by means of steel fishplates embedded in the concrete. Secure pipe supports, anchors and guides to steel members using beam clam on narrow flange beams, (Grinnel Figure 218 or approved equal) and a beam C-clamp with a retaining clamp on wide flange steel members (Grinnel Figures 88/89 or approved equal). Arrange hander to prevent transmission of vibration from piping to building and supports. Uninsulated copper or brass pipe and/or tubing shall be isolated from ferrous hangers or supports or the pipe support shall be provided with a copper finish suitable for copper pipe installation. Clearance for application of specified vapor sealed insulation without cutting pipeline covering or fitting covering in installation of pipe hangers and fittings shall be provided. Furnish pipe hangers and supports complete with rods, bolts, lock nuts, swivels, couplings, brackets and all other components and accessories, to allow installation to freely expand and contract. Hangers shall be formed steel clevis type, unless otherwise specified, with adjustable attachment to hanger rod. For copper or brass pipe, use plastic sheathed or copper finished hangers. Pipe hangers shall fit over vapor sealed insulated piping using ribbed insulation Shield (Grinnel Figure 168 or approved equal). Where pipe exceeds maximum loading recommended for clevis type hanger, provide steel pipe clamps.

Provide trapeze hangers where several pipes can be installed parallel and at the same level. Trapeze shall be of steel channel sized to support load and drilled for rod hanger at each end. Provision should be made to keep the lines in their relative position to each other by the use of either clamps or clips. Use roller supports, where provision for expansion is required. Rollers shall have cast iron adjustable bases. Provide additional steel members required for hanging piping systems in areas with special conditions, or where vertical or horizontal structural steel supports are required other than those provided in the structure. Provide lateral bracing for supporting rods 450 mm long braced at every fourth hanger with diagonal bracing attached to slab or beam. Floor Supports: Provide for supporting horizontal piping from floors with cast-iron rests, with pipe nipples to suit. Fasten to floor. Where provision for expansion is required, provide pipe roll stands, without vertical adjustment. Provide concrete or steel pipe piers, fasten stands to piers. Wall Supports: Provide for supporting horizontal piping from wall with steel J-Hook for pipe located close to wall and not larger than 3 (80 mm) pipe. For greater loads, up to 1500 lbs (680 Kg) maximum loading provide welded steel bracket. Vertical Piping Support: Support soil pipe at every floor and at base of stack, other pipes at every floor unless shown otherwise. Use steel extension pipe clamps. Refer to manufacturers rated maximum loading for each size pipe. Bolt clamps securely to pipe, rest clamp-end extension on building structure. Place pipe clamps at ceiling below, support clamp and extension from inserts where pipe sleeves extend above floor. Manufacturer: Grinnell Corp. (ITT), Michigan, Fee and mason Mfg. Co. (ATO, Inc.), Carpenter Technology Corp., or approved equal. Grinnell catalog numbers are used herein. Submit manufacturers literature for hangers. Supplementary Steel: Provide all necessary supplementary steel for support or attachment of saddles and pipe supports in shafts and between building structural members. Steel shall be painted with one coat or rustinhibiting primer. Support at Equipment: Provide welded support at elbows in pumps suction and discharge. Supports at Equipments: Piping at pumps, chillers, etc. shall be supported independently so that pipe weight will not be supported by equipment. Each piece of equipment shall be checked that no stress is imposed on

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 General A. All pipe supports shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturers recommendations accordance with all applicable codes and standards listed in these specifications. All pipe supports shall be installed as shown on the Drawings and on approved shop drawings. Supports shall be located as required to limit maximum pipe deflection to 2.5 mm when filled with water and so as not to induce excessive concentrated loads on the building structure. Vertical piping passing through slabs shall be supported with appropriate pipe clamps installed above slab. Supports shall be located at all changes of direction. Structural steel anchors shall be installed as shown on Drawings and as required to minimize forces and stresses induced by thermal conditions in the pipe.
