The Site Director is the computer or engine controlling your Metasys system. The Site Director used with the Ready Access Portal: must be at the same release version as the Ready Access Portal software can be any Metasys system device with Site Director status: ADS/ADX, Network Automation Engine (NAE), Network Integration Engine (NIE), or Network Control Engine (NCE)
Refer to the appropriate literature for information on installing and commissioning your Site Director. See Site Director Communication for more information on communication between the Ready Access Portal software and the Site Director. See Computer Running Ready Access Portal Software and Browser Access Device for more details on other system components you need.
Computer Running Ready Access Portal Software
Consider the following when choosing a computer for the Ready Access Portal software on a stand-alone computer: This computer where you install the Ready Access Portal software must meet the requirements of a supported platform listed in Table 2. This document contains procedures for installing prerequisite software and the Ready Access Portal software. The platform of the computer running Ready Access Portal software and the type of Site Director you have impact the number of users who can browse to the Ready Access Portal UI at the same time. See Platform Recommendations and the Number of Users. As a general rule, the computer running Ready Access Portal software should have the same or better processor speed and memory as the Site Director (Table 3). If the computer running the Ready Access Portal software has Java software installed, disable the Java update option. For details, see the Turning off Automatic Updates section in the ADS, ADX, and SCT Installation and Upgrade Instructions Wizard Content (LIT-12011331) and ADS-Lite Installation and Upgrade Instructions Wizard Content (LIT-12011689).
13
Consider the following additional rules if the computer running the Ready Access Portal software has other Metasys system software installed or if you install Ready Access Portal on your Site Director ADS/ADX: The computer running the Ready Access Portal can contain other Metasys software such as ADS/ADX, SCT, or Controller Configuration Tool (CCT). If you install the Ready Access Portal software on an ADS/ADX, the ADS/ ADX and Ready Access Portal software must be the same release version and the ADS/ADX must be the Site Director. If you have a split ADX, run the Ready Access Portal software installation program on the Web/Application server computer. Sites with an NxE85 or LONWORKS Control Server (LCS) 85 Site Director support Ready Access Portal installation; however, you cannot install Ready Access Portal software on the computer where the NxE85/LCS85 resides. You cannot install the Ready Access Portal software on a computer with Simulation (available with the SCT) installed on it. You should install the other Metasys components on your Metasys network and on the computer before installing the Ready Access Portal software. See Installation on a Computer with No Other Metasys Software or Installation on a Computer with Other Metasys Software. During an upgrade, uninstall and reinstall software in the correct order according to Upgrade on a Computer with No Other Metasys Software or Upgrade on a Computer with Other Metasys Software.
See Site Director and Browser Access Device for more details on other system components you need.
Browser Access Device
To browse to the Ready Access Portal UI, you must use one of the following devices: Computer (see Computer Browsing to the UI) Handheld device (see Handheld Device Browsing to the UI)
See Platform Recommendations and the Number of Users for information on how many users can browse to the Ready Access Portal UI at one time. Refer to the Ready Access Portal Help (LIT-12011342) for details on the Ready Access Portal UI. See Site Director and Computer Running Ready Access Portal Software for more details on other system components you need.
14
Consider the following when using a computer to browse to the Ready Access Portal UI: The computer must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser Version 6.x, 7.0, or 8.0. Note: We recommend Internet Explorer Web browser Version 7.0. Internet Explorer Web browser must be configured to run Javascript technology and have cookies enabled. See Preparing a Computer to Browse to the Ready Access Portal UI for information on these settings. If you are using Internet Explorer Web browser Version 8.0, you may need to run the Web browser in Compatibility view. For details, see the related steps at the end of the Logging On to the Ready Access Portal UI section. Microsoft Silverlight 4.0 must be installed on the client computer to view graphics properly. For details, see Installing Windows Silverlight 4.0. Do not browse to the Ready Access Portal UI using a computer with the Windows Server 2008 R2 OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Windows Server 2003 R2 OS. These operating systems use Windows Enhanced Security that, by default, blocks the browser from using Javascript technology.
Consider the following when using a handheld device to browse to the Ready Access Portal UI: The handheld device must be running Internet Explorer Web Browser Mobile for Windows Mobile Version 5 or Version 6 OS, or Apple iPhone and iPod touch OS Version 3.0 or greater. Other Web browsers may display the UI but the functionality is not guaranteed. We recommend a screen size of at least 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high (quarter Video Graphics Array [VGA]). The minimal width of 240 pixels is optimal for horizontal scrolling. Internet Explorer Web browser Mobile must be configured to run JavaScript technology and have cookies enabled. See Preparing a Handheld Device to Browse to the Ready Access Portal UI. By default, the handheld device Ready Access Portal UI summary views display two columns. To change this, see Custom Column Layout for Handheld Devices.
15
The number of users who can browse to the UI at the same time depends on the type of Site Director you have and the computer platform on which you are running the Ready Access Portal software (Table 3). If you plan to install the Ready Access Portal software on an ADS/ADX Site Director, see Table 4. If the number of expected concurrent Ready Access Portal users exceeds the numbers in Table 4, install the Ready Access Portal software on a stand-alone computer.

The information available in the Ready Access Portal is based on user navigation trees created in the existing Metasys system. Use care and foresight when creating user navigation trees via the main Site Management Portal UI. Keep the following tips in mind: Keep user view folders one level deep. This layout ensures easier navigation, especially when you use a handheld device to browse to the UI. Name items that appear in user views with unique information at the beginning of the name. This naming convention ensures easier navigation and information display, especially when you are use a handheld device to browse to the UI. For example, use ZN-T Room 1 instead of Room 1 ZN-T. Remember that selection trees in the Ready Access Portal UI use the folder names from user views in the Site Management Portal UI.
Refer to the Metasys system Help (LIT-1201793) for details on user views.
User Access Rights
All user access types can view the Ready Access Portal UI. Only Metasys system Administrators have access to the Tools function mode. Because the Ready Access Portal UI is based on user views, Metasys system Administrators must assign the appropriate user views to Ready Access Portal UI users. When first installing the Ready Access Portal software, you may wish to create new users specifically for Ready Access Portal UI access. Tenant access is a user access type that allows Metasys system Standard Access Administrators to focus users on specific tasks using the Dashboard. After creating a Tenant user in the Site Management Portal UI, Standard Access Administrators can then set the users Dashboard using Setting the Dashboard for Tenant Users. After completing this procedure, the new Tenant user can log on to the Ready Access Portal UI and view/ interact only with the view assigned as his/her Dashboard by the Metasys system Standard Access Administrator. Refer to the Security Administrator System Technical Bulletin (LIT-1201528) for details on adding users and assigning privileges.
17
Consider the following points on Site Director communication: The Site Director does not need to be online and accessible when you install Ready Access Portal software. If the Site Director is offline or inaccessible when you install the Ready Access Portal software, you must restart the computer running the Ready Access Portal software after you are certain the Site Director is online. If the Site Director is offline/inaccessible during installation, an error appears in a log file. See During Use in the Error Log section. The Site Director must be online and accessible when you attempt to access the Ready Access Portal UI. The Ready Access Portal software can point to only one Site Director. Each Site Director can be referenced by only one instance of Ready Access Portal software. You must also sync the time between the Site Director and the computer running the Ready Access Portal software to be within 5 minutes and in the same time zone. If your network does not support Domain Name System (DNS), then you must update the Windows OS hosts file of the computer running the Ready Access Portal software with the hostname/IP address pair for the Site Director. You may also need to update the hosts file if you have installed the Ready Access Portal software on a different computer from the ADS/ADX software. In these cases, refer to the Network and IT Guidance for the BAS Professional Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011279) for details.
Security/Network Considerations
Refer to the Network and IT Guidance for the BAS Professional Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011279) for details on network security.
Logon
If you must change your password before logging in, you are prompted to enter a new password before proceeding. If you cancel the password change, you are returned to the logon screen. The Ready Access Portal UI does not provide a way to change your password unless it is required. If you wish to change your password before you are required to do so, it must be changed using the Site Management Portal UI. The Ready Access Portal UI supports Microsoft Active Directory service. You can log on to the Ready Access Portal UI using your Active Directory credentials or the Metasys local system credentials. To use an Active Directory account, enter your user name and password, then select your domain in the Login To field. To use a Metasys local account, enter your user name and password, then select Metasys Local in the Login To field.
18
You must implement SSL security for improved data protection when using the Ready Access Portal UI. The installation process allows you to add SSL for the logon only or for the entire Ready Access Portal UI. The options for SSL certificates include the following: Third-Party: Coordinate with your Information Technology (IT) department before installing the Ready Access Portal software to configure Internet Information Services (IIS) correctly. Self-Signed: The installation process allows you to generate a self-signed certificate. Note: We do not recommend a self-signed certificate for networks exposed directly to the Internet (no firewall or Virtual Private Network [VPN]).
Session Timeout
The Ready Access Portal UI supports the Never Terminate setting of a user profile in the Site Management Portal UI Security Administrator System. If a user is configured to never time out, and the user logs onto the Ready Access Portal UI, the user is never logged off due to inactivity. The handheld UI does not support this functionality; it uses the standard logout time. If the Never Terminate setting is not used, the default logout time of 30 minutes of inactivity is used. This time applies to all users accessing the UI. If a session times out, the user is logged out and returned to the logon screen. To change the session timeout, go to Step 1 in this section. If you are using both a computer and handheld device to browse to the UI, the session timeout must be the same for both devices. Forced logouts happen in the following additional circumstances (also applies if the Never Terminate setting is used): If the computer running the Ready Access Portal software restarts, users return to the logon screen with their next click. After a Metasys system Administrator clicks the Start Update button, the Ready Access Portal logs the Metasys system Administrator out of the system immediately. All other users return to the logon screen with their next click.

Windows 7 OS (!)
IMPORTANT: The Windows 7 OS computer you want to use for Metasys software must have been installed on a cleanly formatted hard disk. We do not support the OS if it was upgraded from a previous version of Windows (for example, upgraded to Windows 7 Professional OS from Windows Vista Business OS). To verify, make sure a folder called WINDOWS.OLD does not exist on the hard disk. If the WINDOWS.OLD folder is present, reinstall the Windows 7 OS from the media, making sure you format the hard disk during OS installation. Before you reimage the computer, verify that you have all necessary software drivers. We currently support Windows 7 Professional OS, Windows 7 Enterprise OS, and Windows 7 Ultimate OS with SP1 (32-bit versions only) for Ready Access Portal software. No other Windows 7 OS editions are supported. New security features in Windows 7 OS sometimes require you to run certain applications with Administrator rights. To do this, right-click the icon or menu selection for the application and select the Run as Administrator option. Also, when you begin to install an application, a User Account Control (UAC) dialog box may appear prompting you for permission to start the installation process. Clicking Yes allows the installation to continue. (If you follow the steps in Disabling User Account Control (!), the UAC prompt is disabled and does not appear.) Installing SQL Server 2008 SP2 software is a two-step process: first, install SQL Server 2008 software, then apply SP2 for SQL Server 2008 software. Refer to the Network and IT Guidance for the BAS Professional Technical Bulletin (LIT-12011279) for details on SQL Server software database mode settings and backup techniques. Metasys software can use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 software; however, if the computer has other software applications that require SQL Server 2005 software, do not install or upgrade to SQL Server 2008 SP2 software. Metasys software at Release 5.2 also has been qualified to work with SQL Server 2005 SP3 software and SQL Server 2008 R2 software. If you are installing SQL Server 2008 SP2 software on a drive other than the default, you must take special steps to make sure all Metasys software functions correctly. See Appendix: Installing SQL Server Software on a Drive Other than the Default (!). Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 software must be installed and running before you install Metasys software. You need your Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 software installation media to install the SQL Server 2008 SP2 software.

For SQL Server 2008 SP2 software, starting and stopping related services is available with the SQL Server Configuration Manager, which can be opened from Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager. For some SQL Server 2008 SP2 software installation settings, you may need to consult the customers IT department to ensure compliance with its processes. If the IT department has no recommendations, use the settings indicated in this document, but you must select Mixed Mode authentication in Step 14 of the installation procedure. When you specify SQL Server Authentication for the install, enter a strong System Administrator (SA) password for the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 software. Microsoft Corporation recommends a password that contains eight or more letters, numbers, and symbols and that cannot be guessed easily (for example, cannot be found in the dictionary; does not match the name of the user/a person, and changes often). Visit www.microsoft.com or consult with the IT department if you have questions about SA passwords. During the SQL Server 2008 SP2 software upgrade process, the same settings from the older version of SQL Server software are used, including the reuse of the existing System Administrator (SA) password and the selection of Mixed Mode authentication. You cannot change these settings during the upgrade. In addition, the upgrade process prompts you to select the database instance to be upgraded. Be sure to select the instance that is currently in use for Metasys software.

Troubleshooting
Table 43 contains troubleshooting information for the Ready Access Portal software.
Table 43: Troubleshooting the Ready Access Portal Software (Part 1 of 3)
Problem
You are uncertain how to move the Ready Access Portal software to another computer and preserve current Dashboard settings.
Solution
To move the Ready Access Portal software to a new computer and preserve Dashboard settings: 1. Uninstall the Ready Access Portal from the original computer and do not remove the Dashboard settings. 2. Complete the uninstallation procedure. 3. Stop the SQL Server service. 4. Copy the MetasysTree.mdf database from this location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA 5. Copy any log files you wish to preserve. See Error Log. 6. Move the MetasysTree.mdf database to the new computer where you plan to install the Ready Access Portal software. 7. Install the Ready Access Portal software on the new computer. Note: If you are installing the Ready Access Portal software on a computer with other Metasys software on it, install the other Metasys software first. This message appears when access to the Ready Access Portal database is not available. To resolve this error: 1. Verify that this computer has a supported version of SQL Server installed and SQL Server is currently running. 2. Verify that the TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols in SQL Server Configuration Manager are set to Enabled. 3. Verify that the SQL Server Administrator group called BUILTIN\Administrators has access to SQL Server databases. Follow these steps: 1. Start SQL Server Management Studio and login with the sa user account using SQL Server authentication. You may also select Windows authentication and log in with an account that has system administrator privileges in SQL Server. 2. Expand Security. Right-click Logins and select New Login. 3. In the Login name field, type BUILTIN\Administrators. 4. On the same screen, select Server Roles in the left pane to display the Server Roles for the Administrators group. Select SysAdmin Server Role. 5. Click OK. To work around this problem: 1. Cancel the installation. 2. Start the installation again. 3. When you reach the SQL Server Installation Credentials Window, do not use the Browse button. Instead, do one of the following: If you installed the default instance (MSSQLSERVER), leave the default of (local). If you installed a named instance, type \instancename after (local) where instancename is the name of the SQL Server instance you installed.
You see an error message with the following text when you are installing Ready Access Portal software: -214721843 Login failed for user '<username>'. Make sure SQL Server 2005 SP3 or SQL 2005 Express SP3 or SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 Express is installed and running. Make sure SQL Remote Connections for TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled.
You see an error message with the following text when you are installing Ready Access Portal software: Error 1606
251
Solution
This message appears when you do not have your Dashboard set. To resolve this error: If you have Tenant user privileges, your Administrator must set your Dashboard. If you are not a Tenant user, you must set your Dashboard. See Metasys System Administrator Steps. This error message occurs because the Site Director is offline or inaccessible over the network when you attempt to log on. To resolve this problem, make sure the Site Director is online and communicating over the network and attempt to log on to the Ready Access Portal UI. This error may occur if computer running the Ready Access Portal software is on a domain and the Site Director is not on a domain. To resolve this error, add the domain name to the URL of the Ready Access Portal UI using this syntax: http://domainname\hostname/MetasysRAP http://domainname\hostname/MetasysRAPMobile This error occurs if you change the name of the computer running the Ready Access Portal software after you install the Ready Access Portal software. To see the Mismatched Address error itself, click the Certificate Error button in the Internet Explorer Web browser toolbar. This error occurs because a name change rendered the SSL certificate invalid and you are using an Internet Protocol (IP) address to browse to the Ready Access Portal UI. To resolve this error, unistall and reinstall the Ready Access Portal software and create a new certificate during the installation process.
You attempt to log on to the Ready Access Portal UI and see the following message: Cannot login. The Metasys site director device is not available. You see a Mismatched Address error (Figure 320).
You attempt to view a graphic after installing or upgrading the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in, but the graphic does not appear.
252
Solution
This message appears because the Ready Access Portal software is attempting to create an IIS directory that you have already. To resolve this error: 1. Click OK on the error message (Figure 321). 2. On the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services. The Internet Information Services window appears. 3. In the tree in the left pane, browse to the local computer > Web Sites > Default Web Site > MetasysIII. 4. In the tree in the left pane, right-click WS and select Delete. 5. Close all windows. 6. Return to Figure 311 and continue with the installation.
When you use Internet Explorer Web browser Version 8.0 to display the Ready Access Portal UI, the UI may not appear properly (for example, the header area does not appear).
