Introduction

TheDolbyLakeProcessormarksthenextgenerationindigitalloudspeakerand equalizationtechnology.Withunsurpassedaudioqualityandthemostadvanced loudspeakerprocessingavailable,itwillimprovethesoundofanysystem.Effortlesscontrol isprovidedthroughtheDolbyLakeControllersoftware,ortheexclusivefrontpanelPortal meteringandcontrolinterface. TheProcessorplatformofferscomplete,nativedigitalsignalprocessingfunctionality,with supportforupto4in,12outloudspeakerapplicationsand8in,8outEQapplications.The signalprocessingcanalsobechangedtoprovideanEQ44configurationtogetherwitha loudspeaker26configuration. TheProcessorincludesseveraladvancedtechnologiesforimprovingsoundquality.These includeRaisedCosineEqualizationTM(thefoundationunderlyingtheIdealGraphicEQTMand LakeMesaEQTMinterfaces),pluslinearphasecrossovers,LimiterMaxTMloudspeaker protection,andIsoFloatTMgroundisolation.

Signal Processing Configurations

4.2.1

Mute Enable
UsedintandemwiththePortaldisplays,theMute Enablebuttonenablestheabilitytomute inputchannels,moduleinputs,andoutputchannels.TheMute Enablebuttonmustbe depressedtoengagemuting,andthebuttonflashestoindicatethatmutinghasbeenenabled. IfMuteEnablemodeisnotdisengagedmanually,itwillautomaticallydisableaftertwo minutes. HoldingtheMute EnablebuttonfortwosecondswilllockMuteEnablemodeuntilthe buttonismanuallypressedagain.

4.2.2

Meter View
TheMeterbuttontogglesthroughmultiplemeterviewsonthePortaldisplays.Bydefault, eachPortalshowsoutputchannelmetering.BypressingtheMeterbutton,youcantoggleto viewphysicalinputmetersandmoduleinputmeters.

Channel Identification and Muting


ThePortalissurroundedbyacircleofbuttonsthatprovidemultiplesoftfunctions.Inthe defaultoutputchannelmeterview,thesebuttonsidentifythephysicallocationandmute statusofeachoutputchannel.WhentheMute Enablebuttonisengaged,thesebuttonsare alsousedtomute/unmuteoutputchannels.

Level Metering
Theinnerringofmeteringsegmentsisdividedintomultiplelevelmeters.Intheexample showninFigure44,threeoutputlevelmetersareshownonthePortal. ThePortaldisplayslevelmeteringasanenvelopefunctionemanatingfromthecenterpoint ofthechannelmeter.Aslevelincreasesanddecreases,themeterexpandsinbothdirections andthencontractsasshowninFigure45.

Limiter Metering

Module Label

TheDolbyLakeProcessorintroducesanewsamplerateconversiontechniquethat significantlyreducesthelatency,regardlessofthesamplerate.Inadditiontolowlatency conversion,theProcessorprioritizesandsynchronizesincomingandoutgoingsignalsat differentsampleratesoneveryindividualdigitalinputandoutput. ThischapterdescribeshowtoconnecttheProcessortootherdigitalaudiodevices.

Internal and External Clocks


TheDolbyLakeProcessorprovidestwoindependentdigitalclocks. ThePrimaryClockSourceandSampleRateConverterClockSourceworktogetherto provideadigitalaudiosystemcapableofreceivingandtransmitting44.1,48,88.2,96,176.4, and192kHzsamplerates.TheusercanconfiguretheProcessortoprovideadifferentsample rateforeachdigitalchannel. Inmosttypicalapplications,theSampleRateConverterClockwillbesetatabaserateof 44.1kHz.Abaserateof48kHzisprovidedasanenhancementtoallowforbothsynchronous (fromPrimaryClock)andasynchronous(fromSampleRateConverterClock)digitalaudio outputs. AllclocksderivedfromthePrimaryandSampleRateConverterclocksareavailabletodrive digitalaudiooutputs.Theendusercanindependentlychoosethedesiredsampleratefor eachdigitalaudiooutput,asshownontherightsideofFigure71. Forexample,youcanconfigureAES1,AES2,AES3,andAES4toprovide96kHzAES/EBU outputstodrivedigitalamplifiersinthesoundsystem,andconfigureAES5toprovidea 44.1kHzoutputtoanonsitevideofacilityforpressorbroadcastuse.
