2.203

TITLE : WORK RELATED INJURY AND ILLNESS AT PLANT

2.203.1 INTRODUCTION As guided by its HSE policy EPCL intends to give medical treatment to those who suffered work injury, work illness, and any other non-work related illness or injury that may occur from time to time.

2.203.2 SCOPE The scope is giving medical treatment to every work related injury at the plant. 2.203.3 RESPONSIBILITY If a person has been treated outside and he or she is proceeding on leave on the advice attending doctor, the person concerned must inform the concerned team leader and or the doctor. Overstay as deemed by the company doctor beyond the stated duration of leave will be adjusted to the patients personal leave.

2.203.4 PROCEDURE 4.1 WORK INJURY: An employee is deemed to have suffered a work related injury if the injury occurs during the discharge of duties. The following examples will serve as guidelines for declaring an injury.

4.1.1 An employee suffers an injury while on company-authorized tour. Work Injury. 4.1.2 An employee after finishing his / her duty at site decides to stay back for personal work or jobs not related to work and suffers an injury. Non-Work injury. 4.1.3 When a situation arises where there is doubt the injury will be declared work related or not by competent authority.

Treatment of work injury will be carried out locally unless the injury is such that the patient requires urgent treatment. Hospitalization will be as per company guidelines. 4.2 DUTY AFTER WORK INJURY The team leader in consultation with the company doctor may place an employee on a restricted duty, which will not aggravate the injury. An employee will revert back to normal duty after being declared fit by the company doctor. Competent authority on the advice of the company doctor may sanction special leave. The duration of the leave will be clearly mentioned in the prescription papers or in the discharge.

4.3 WORK ILLNESS An employee will be deemed to be suffering from work related illness when: 4.3.1 An illness is established by retrospective epidemiological studies to be related to a particular causative agent over a sufficient period of time for the disease process to be initiated in the body. 4.3.2 A chronic illness occurs due to performance of work beyond the ambit of normal work for the person. 4.3.3 A person diagnosed to be suffering from work related illness will immediately undergo full diagnostic and therapeutic work - up at company approved hospital. 4.3.4 If the disease process is irreversible then attempts will be made to put the employee in another job, which will not have the same risk factors as the present disease. 4.3.5 An employee suffering from work related illness, will be sanctioned special leave, if necessary, till such time the employee is fit to resume regular or alternative duties. 4.4 NON WORK RELATED ILLNESS EPCL management likes to care for the health of its employees. Any employee suffering from non-work relates illness can go to Medical center for medical attention with appropriate authorization from his/her supervisor.

The illness can be minor or major. Medical center will provide for treatment care to the extent possible and the patient may be referred to nursing home or tertiary care at Port Harcourt. The advice of the company doctor will be communicated to the team leader. In case of emergencies the patient will be sent by companys ambulance to hospital for admission. Medical center will follow up at frequent intervals regarding the progress to give a feed back to the management.

Any leave availed due to non - work related illness would be debited to his/her account. Medical center will analyze these illness cases on yearly basis to see the trend and check if more number of similar cases are reported from a particular area/plant/function.
