Avatar director James Cameron has also taken up residence. Meantime, Aucklands Oktobor Animation has produced television shows Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and The Penguins of Madagascar. New Zealands game industry has also made major leaps in recent years thanks to digital distribution, coupled with global demand for online and social games. In fact, our reputation for producing highly-skilled graduates leads to an employment rate of more than 90% in many fields and graduates who are working in the worlds leading game, animation, advertising, film, interactive and production studios. Since the very beginning, Media Design School has been on the leading edge of creative industries and it is our commitment to always be pioneering, relevant and embedded in the industries we support.

Working at Weta for over 10 years, Ive seen what our film industry can do, and Ive been lucky enough to work alongside some of the most ridiculously talented people in film. But its an even rarer treat to see up-and-coming film artists from Aucklands Media Design School, showing what the future of visual effects in New Zealand holds. Greg Broadmore, Weta

What really has impressed me with Media Design School is that it has enlisted and listened to industry professionals in the creation of their degrees. I am looking forward to working with the next generation of new media rock stars. Steve Martin, Terabyte

Every Media Design School graduate I have hired have been great the courses enable them to touch on all aspects of digital media, so they have had hands on experience and understand the process of user interaction design. TESTIMONIALS

STudENT VOiCE
Tarn McConville
Bachelor of Software Engineering I like that the software engineering degree still has an element of design and you get to work alongside game artists on the final project, which was a big drawcard. I looked at a lot of options at other universities and couldnt find a software engineering degree that had the right balance of creativity and programming that this degree offers.

Ben Carnall

Bachelor of Software Engineering After one year in the course I felt like I could surpass friends who are studying in their third year of a software engineering degree at other universities. Learning software engineering within a game programming context is an advantage because it is the most complex.

Bachelor of Art and Design The tutors are experienced industry professionals and you spend every day doing things relevant to your field of study. You dont waste time. Every moment furthers my goal to work in the industry.

Graduate of Diploma in Digital Creativity

I came here not knowing anything about a computer and within six months in the Diploma of Digital Creativity I was a computer genius with a broad knowledge of design programmes. It is because the course is so hands on, practical and industry based I could quickly apply what I learned.

Emma Wang

Bachelor of Art and Design

Graduate of Diploma in Digital Creativity

The Diploma in Digital Creativity lets you try lots of things in one course. I started out with an interest in graphic design and, the more I learned, the more I moved towards 3D. I also liked working in a team to combine all of the elements we have learned into a campaign for a television show.

What if I am waitlisted?
We typically receive far more applications from qualified candidates than we have places for on our programmes. Students who fall just below the very top group of applicants, or who submit applications after the preferred deadline date, may be put on our wait list. Students on the wait list still meet the entry criteria and have the potential to succeed as students at Media Design School. Should places become available on the programme, waitlisted applicants will be given an offer of place.

Payment by Student Loan

New Zealand students are generally able to access a student loan through StudyLink to pay the fees for their qualification. To secure your place, we recommend that you begin applying for a student loan through StudyLink as soon as you receive your offer of place from Media Design School. Once the loan application is approved it is paid directly to the school. For more information, visit: www.studylink.govt.nz

Once you are accepted

Successful applicants will receive an Offer of Place for the programme, along with information about enrolling and studying at Media Design School. To reserve your place on the programme you will need to confirm your enrolment by the date specified with your offer of place. Your offer of place will also include details around payment of tuition and fees. More information on fees visit: www.mediadesignschool.com/enrolment/ calendar-and-fees

Filip Frisk travelled to New Zealand from Sweden to study 3D animation at Media Design School. Today he is working at Fluxif in Zurich, Switzerland. Living in New Zealand was a blast nice landscape, wildlife and beaches really close to you where ever you are. I could spend my Christmas break on the beach with friends and a guitar. It is a nice contrast to the six-hour-long December days and -20 degrees of coldness that I have back home.

Originally from Mumbai, India, Aksh Malik completed his studies in animation in 2011 and then worked as a 3D character animator at Oktobor Animation on Nickelodeon's Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness television series. When I first arrived in New Zealand it felt like paradise on Earth. Its stunning natural beauty, high quality of life, great work-life balance, world class cities, a free economy and a friendly, welcoming society are all factors that, in my opinion, make New Zealand one of the best places to study, work and live.
