TGR Helicorp Unveils SNARK VTOL UAV

Auckland, New Zealand - June 4, 2004 them back to base using computer override systems controlled by the base station operator. The UAV at present has 9 optional mission systems available with various range options for: payload, ordnance, supplies/ ammunition, fuel deliveries, a full attack mission and long range loiter and observation options. The aerial vehicle weighs in at 1100 lbs with a gross weight of 2480 lbs giving the helicopter a payload of 1280 lbs. With its superior 20-hour-plus flight range capability, Snark can undertake long range missions with a variety of optional packages. Its twin, four-barrel, 1 inch TGR Z4 defence rocket system will target, interrogate and automatically destroy an unidentified enemy well clear of the Snark. And the twin, 12 pod, 2.75 inch (24) rockets main attack ordnance provides a serious attack capability, coupled with optional radar systems and real time imaging back to the base station. Snark is the first diesel powered helicopter and diesel powered UAV in the world today, and TGR believes diesel power is the cutting edge way of the future. TGR has a close working relationship with a diesel aircraft engine manufacturer who has developed the worlds first vertical supercharged and turbo intercooled two stroke diesel aircraft engine. TGR is involved with ongoing engine electronics development work and is about to undertake a certification test program for the vertical diesel engine, which will also be used in TGRs new, three-seat light commercial helicopter. The three-seater is targeted for FAR 27 certification in 18 months in full cooperation and association with the engine manufacturer. In combination with TGR-designed aircraft mechanicals, TGR believes this diesel engine will resolve many present UAV problems, including Navy acceptance for ship operated VTOL UAV helicopters. Diesel is a safer, lower combustible fuel which is compatible with navy ships own fuel requirements. Phenomenal performance, extended range and a rethink of accepted engine capability rewrites the book on engine performance, said Trevor Rogers, TGRs president and technical director. TGR thinks mostly out of the square, he said, and our engine manufacturer is with us, pushing the boundaries and keeping right up there with us. TGR Helicorp Ltd, a New Zealand UAV manufacturer and member of UVS International, today released details of its VTOL UAV (full size) attack/defence helicopter called the Snark and announced that it is now close to flight trials for its Mk 2 pre-production Snark. This VTOL UAV has some notable features: autonomous flight take-off and landing systems; long range capability; satellite aircraft control over a long range; landing selection and ground level auto landing systems; automatic obstruction sensor system for landing and take-off. Snark comes complete with its stand alone hanger transporter system. The UAV can be assembled or dismantled from its base station hanger in 4 hours, (single operator, no pilot required) and with all maintenance and servicing requirements including stand alone power supply. The Snarks on-board computer has multiple smart expert systems to launch/fly and control the UAVs preprogrammed mission, which is overviewed by the base station operator. Snark has two real time data imagery/ infra-red data collection cameras (front and rear), with an attack designator on the forward camera to target attack and defence ordnance. A full stealth carbon fibre fuselage, carbon fibre rotor blades and a multi blade fenistron tail rotor system, makes this aircraft very hard to locate in combat.Engine exhaust gases are internally cooled to eliminate any heat signature, making it extremely difficult to lock a heat seeking missile onto Snark. Its self defence ordnance system includes computer targeting and fire control. Snark is fully armed with separate attack and defence ordnance systems designed and built at TGR Helicorps own facility in Auckland. The Snark can pick up two injured soldiers and carry
