Engine Sulzer ZA40S Operation and Practical Advanced


1. Target Group
This training course is intended for, but not limited to, power plant and marine engine personnel, (Management and/or Operational Level), who are engaged in the O&M of a Sulzer ZA40S Diesel Engine.

2. Prerequisites
The participants in this course should have sufficient experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines as well as its system.

3. Course Objective
On completion of this training, the trainees are able to maintain the engine in a safer way and will make more effective contributions to the operation of the engine, this will also improve the participants skills on proper working practices with diesel engines. Enhance knowledge about component stress cause by thermal and mechanical load are also taught.

4. Duration
The standard duration of the Engine Sulzer ZA40S Operation and Practical Advanced is 5 days.

5. Venue
The ENGINE course can be delivered in one of the Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy (WLSA) training centres world-wide, or on board a vessel.

Main Data Design & Function Engine Block, Bearings & Oil Sump Main Bearing Inspections Fuel Injection Equipments, Overhaul and Calibration Cylinder Head Disassembly and Assembly, Overhauling Procedure Pistons and Conn Rods, Disassembly and Assembly Overhaul Procedure and Wear Measurement Hands-on training on Sulzer ZA40S Engine and on engine simulator

7. Course Intake Limitation


In order to provide the maximum efficiency during the course duration and to assure the effective participation of all trainees during the session, the suggested maximum intake of students per course is 10 persons.

8. Course Program Day 1


Opening of the Course Registration of Participants, signing Attendance Sheet, conduct written Pre-Test to Trainees Presentation of Wrtsil Short presentation of Wrtsil, products & services, and key figures Brief orientation of WSU safety procedures and emergency plan The Diesel Engine Process Discuss what are Diesel Engine, combustion process and the different parameters. Briefly illustrate a 4-stroke engine and the valve graph.

Design & Function of Sulzer ZA40S Understand the design and function of major components. Also theoretically know how the basic maintenance works are carried out. Engine Block, Bearings & Oil Sump Described construction, system components, oil and water flow, hydraulic jacks and tightening specs, things to remember Main Bearing Inspections Overhauling procedure and safety aspects, Condition evaluation

Day 3
Fuel Injection Equipments, Theoretical Understanding the function and maintenance principles of fuel injection equipment is playing a major role when operating the diesel engine safely and economically. Fuel Injection Equipments, Overhaul and Calibration Hands-on activities on safe and correct procedure of doing overhaul and needed adjustment

Day 4
Cylinder Head Dis-assy & Assembly, Overhauling Procedure Described construction, system components and parts special features Assessment of Different Components Condition evaluation and wear measurements Pistons and Conn Rods, Dis & Assembly Described construction, system components, parts special features Overhaul Procedure and Wear Measurement, Safe and Correct procedure of working on the engine component. Connecting Rod Ovality Calibration, big-end Correct procedure and wear limits to be observed Crankshaft Describe construction and taking alignment.

Liner, Dis-assy and Assembly Safe and correct procedure to be observed, using the right tools. Honing of Liner Liner Wear Calibration Correct procedure and wear limits to be observed. Assembly of major engine components to engine block Discussions, Test and Course Evaluation

9. Items Included in the Training Fee (WLSA centre)


The trainees will get a training binder containing: The specific handout material for each training topic which was presented during the training course Typical layout of ship's relevant installations Writing instruments (pens, pencils, pads - as applicable) Courses in the Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy training center also include: Lunch, coffee and tea - offered during break time Daily local transportation to and from the WLSA training facilities

10. Certificate Issuance and Verification


All participants attending the Engine course and successfully passing the final examination will receive the appropriate certificate, issued by the authorities of the Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy. Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy reserves the right to verify (and/or to extend the validity of) the issued certificate(s) - as per applicable circumstances. Wrtsil Land & Sea Academy reserves the right to withdraw, cancel or suspend issued certificate(s) in all circumstances related to improper use of such certificate(s) or in any cases where applicable laws and regulations would warrant such decision.
