There is always the girl who talks a lot and wears flashy clothes just because she doesent feel shes part of a group and she wants to be noticed...or the boy who has a great voice and seduces girls with the guitar. There is the shy boy and the friendly girl. There will always be. But we dont care, because we love the feeling of having fun with le personnage that we dont even know well. Maybe we have a common purpose or , in a way, we are just the same. We have so many misconceptions, but not when coming to EYP. I cant make a list with explanations, but as we give up our usual lives for some days, we dont care, in a good way, and we live, we hope, we try, we have confidence or we connect. We have friends in our usual life, we talk every day, we go shopping, we help each other, we give advice and so on. But at this session we dont do that. So arent we friends? Last year I was wondering how we grow memories or how we remember something before it happens. Well, this year we do grow memories at Tomis Forum, but were talking about connecting people as well. No, its not Nokia, its EYP. EYP- Connecting People. Thats it. You are not a psychologist, I know, but its easy to connect with different personalities without knowing them before. Village
ne would expect the village to be an explosion of tastes, flavours, cultures and traditional music. Nothing to say, its completely normal. But the Village presentation of Tomis Forum 2012 was honestly more than Hiroshima bomb. Well, 2012 has been for a long time considered a very controversial year, but the EYP delegates made it completely clear: it was a total success. Of course, it all started with the already traditional fuss among the delegates, but everything happens for a reason... And for this part we all had, besides our own and secret reasons, a common one: have the most EYP-ish fun ! Mm, well, it may not be the most, but thats something well see throughout this forum. We could taste the specialities and let ourselves stunned by the culture of Germany, Netherlands, Austria and, obviously, Roma-

nia. By far the most amazing prezentation was Constantas, together with their delicious cupcakes and gorgeous Turkish delights. Alex Hirsu, EMPL delegate, states that their costumes were also a strong point and that their great involvement in the village presentation was reflected in their moment. The most surprising reaction was Tamer Nurlas, EMPL delegate from Constanta, who declared that he totally enjoyed everything related to Constantas presentation, but his favorite thing out of all was the kobete. And thats no surprise, it was really mouth-watering ! Apart from that, as Adela Boboc EMPL brought to our attention, Oltenias awesomeness couldnt be ignored either. As far as the way the others appreciated Romanias performance, we have good news and bad news. Shall we start with the good news ? Well, the good news comes

from Olaf, EMPL Dutch delegate, who loved... could you guess ? The cupcakes, of course ! Also, Christian Weschke, LIBE German delegate, found delicious some kind of strawberry juice, but I forgot the name of the region. Oh, and because were talking here about Romanian delights, he also stated that the girls were gorgeous as well. You do have an eye for detail, Christian ! Another LIBE delegate, this time Dutch, Lieke Dekker, was crazy about our jam... well, he didnt really say it this way, but his description is truly awesome: It was, I dont know how you call it a sweet thing that you put on the bread. And now lets introduce the bad parts... its not much to say, of course, just some tiny details, such as the length of the Romanian presentation, as Olaf EMPL states. However, the Romanian dishes arent always even the Romanians cup

of tea. Lets take Alexandru, from the LIBE committee, who cant stand the zacusca... or the drob, as another delegate admits, its too grandmother-ish. On the other hand, we all can agree that the Dutch and Austrian sweets were irresistible, and that was obvious, taking into consideration the speed they disappeared from the table. Next time bring much more, guys ! Concerning the Germans presentation, It was something unique and enjoyable, as Tamer Nurla declares. And everybodys enthusiasm was obvious, thats why Christian Weschke stated that the whole audience is suitable for the cologne carnival. Were so glad to hear you had fun ! To cut a long story short, all the participants highlighted the diversity from all points of view. And Village time is the one that reflects the most this diversity.

You may have heard of it unity in diversity. Ok, we could easily notice the diversity. Lets just wait and see what the unity is all about !

session is now well under way and even if this work in a team, learning to respect and listen to othT he is your first EYP experience Im sure Teambuilding ers, boosting self-confidence, making the impossible must have had an impact on you. Whether were talking about reactions like why are these people riding imaginary big fat ponies?! or OMG, I love the funky chicken!(I know, Im thinking a little too big) you cant deny teambuilding was crucial for you bonding with your committee, developing your team-spirit and bustling you towards the achievement of a common goal. Teambuilding begins with name games which are meant to help people remember each others names, thus reaching the most basic level of familiarity. It continues with the so-called ice-breakers and energizers such as Two truths, one lie, Monster gameor Skin the snake. Involving more physical contact, these kind of games leave a clear path for the trust games (e.g. Levitation, Drunken bottle). By this stage, the delegates should have gained confidence in their committee and became comfortable with the others members of their team and are ready for the problem-solving games, which require them to reach consensus, thus preparing them for Committee Work. During TB, you can see the delegates either laughing really hard, helping each other out, being extremely focused or, at times, even disagreeing. Doesnt this sound familiar? Thats because it is. Teambuilding is a reflection of day-to-day life: we meet new people, we communicate, we socialize, we bond. However silly or ridiculous the games might seem to you, it is of utmost importance that you realize they have a purpose, and not that of embarrassing you. You will find sooner rather than later that these games can actually prove helpful in the real, nonsession related life. Breaking the ice, learning how to

Fortunately, the delegates drew the right conclusion in time and figured out the necessity of those games. Yeah, better later than never. Bianca, delegate of EMPL, considers that teambuilding made the transition from total strangers to friends, to a real team. Tamer, from the same committee, agrees with his mate as far as the teambuilding is concerned: It helped me create bonds between me and my teammates and in my opinion , this is something really important. Besides, my mom has always told me Im a total mess... well, teambuilding may not always make you organize your socks, but it definetely makes a miracle for your looong sentences without a purpose. If you dont agree with me, ask Antoanela EMPL, she can confirm that: It helped us think in a more organized way. Its easier to solve a problem when youre using a strategy. Moreover, if youre on a date and you feel stupid, then remember how you felt during the teambuilding, and feel free to make the first move: I think the stupidity of the games really helped to break the ice and removed the barriers between us. Just a glance... on the topics

Like girls decisions...by AFCO
Its about choosing your clothes for an interview. Or choosing between cherries and strawberries, black and white, right and wrong. Its about making up your mind. At a higher level, however, things are not that easy. When the European Union has to make up its mind, wed rather talk about what they call decision making process. Yeah, it may sound too sophisticated, but... it just sounds like this. So what lacks the EU to make this decision making process less complicated and more appropriate ? What would you lack if you had to decide whats best for 27 fellows ? How could you equally involve all of them ? Can you be sure you wont hurt any ? Well, you may not know what to answer those questions, but dont panic, the Committee on Constitutional Affairs is working on this. The issue is brought into limelight by the quite controversial Lisbon Treaty, which, unfortunately, has not enabled the EU member states to arrive at unified decisions, therefore each country acts accordingly to its own law. And this generates the main question the committee has to find an answer for: How can 27 heads of state agree efficiently upon a certain matter while still respecting the national principles ? And believe me, those national principles are a lot and not easily rejectable. However, the democracy and the clear distribution of powers is assured by the same Lisbon Treaty, so lets not put all the blame on it. As you may have expected, communication is one of the missing elements of the chain... and, as you may have expected as well, budget is the other missing element in the efficiency chain. And all this fuss involves many EU institutions: the European Commission who proposes new legislative projects and the European Parliament together with the Council of the European Union, responsible with the adoption of those projects. But how could these institutions get to a favourable conclusion for everybody ? Could they figure out a way to create a connection between citizens and the institutions mentioned above ? Eventually, could there be adopted an European Constitution, in spite of this lack of political unity ? Hmm, to be continued...

I bet that when you are in a plane youre thinking about crashing or about a natural disastre, even if just for a second. We cant help thinking about what would happen if something happens and we are isolated, without energy or food. A nightmare sometimes, but still a possible one. tivity and even biodiversity loss. More importantly, it creates a lack of water supplies, both clear water and the water needed for the crops. Consequently, this leads to imminent problems within the sanitation system and agricultural sector. Thats why even the bread is more expensive! Furthermore, extreme winters are also linked to extensive damage of the crops because of the significant ground freezing problem. Storms and floods are also to be taken into account when discussing the consequences of climate-related disasters. They

As we all know, climate disasters are on the rise. Around 70 percent of disasters are now climate related up from around 50 percent from two decades ago. Powerful floods, wind storms, droughts, ground subsidence, the damnation of the harvests and forests are increasing determining not only the Europeans starvation and migration to safer zones, but the propitious environment for threatening diseases, allergies and viruses. As a matter of fact, extreme weather changes and their consequences represent one of the most crucial factors when it comes to the analysis of Europes budgetary, economical and agricultural development. These facts give rise to different consequences not only for the environment but also for different sectors as they are interconnected. Did you feel like in desert this summer? I know it wasnt me! Drought affects the degradation of the land which may lead to produc-

affect the vulnerability of domestic water supplies and the physical infrastructure necessary for sanitation. Unfortunately, the disruption of water distribution and sewage systems during floods contribute greatly to severe financial and health risks. There are various measures which may prepare Europe for these imminent disasters. But should be promoted a better understanding of the environmental crisis? How? Essentially, public knowledge about natural and technological hazards and measures to reduce risk and respond to disasters is a vital element of emergency management. Monitoring, alert and early warning systems may represent a solution as they would be capable of keeping people informed and prepared for the various hazards. I think this is more than a girls luggage!

I think everyone heard at least once in their life the phrase life was better in the past. Its just the human nature voicing their dissatisfactions loud and clear, theoretically thriving for constant improvement, but practically doing nothing in this regard. So why should we settle only for reminiscing past times and complaining about the present when we could rather actually do something so that the future will be way better?

It is now of utmost importance for the European Union to strike a balance between its citizens comfort and catering to the needs of future generations. So what can be done? The measures that can be taken are numerous. Imposing aggressive fuel efficiency standards, developing innovative public transit systems, replacing fossil-fuel cars with hybrid engine ones, encouraging the use of bikes as an alternative for short motorized trips and that of trains instead of

From an economical point of view and taking into consideration the slow depletion of conventional oil sources and the gradual move towards more expensive alternative sources such as the Alberta oil sands, its not clear the world could develop such a large capacity to produce oil. On the other hand, if were looking from an environmental perspective, most of that unconventional oil is significantly dirtier, from a CO2 perspective, than the traditional stuff. If people in the developing world keep buying vehicles, then simple upgrades in fuel-efficiency alone arent going to be enough to stop a steady uptick in global temperatures or a heavy drop in the quality of air.

Less money for shopping? Not finding a channel with a good film and watching news about money during the evening? Not affording the same chocolate as few months ago? Angry parents? These are some signs that something is going wrong. Some signs we cant avoid... economy is not anymore a subject for economis, its a subject treated even in students homwork... For the while now, the word of the day is economic crisis. Countries like Greece, Spain and Ireland face ongoing recessions, while the Economic and Monetary Union of the EU along with the International Monetary Fund, push for austerity measures. The effects of the crisis have been deeply felt in the EU since 2008. Countries are confronted with excessive public debts, poor competiveness, unemployment and low economic growth. The crisis proved that countries in the EU are interdependent, mostly because when they decided to enter the European Union, the rule was that they have to comply and be a part of the third Economic and Monetary Union, before being able to adopt the euro currency. The current set of conditions of entry for new states in the EU is called the Copenhagen criteria, which establishes the requirements and the time framework within which these must be done. Taking all these into account, what solutions did the European Union proposed in order to contribute to growth, jobs and stability? Well, an integrated financial, budgetary, economic policy framework and democratic legitimacy and accountability are the main solutions for longterm stability and prosperity in the EMU.

But what all those fancy words mean? An integrated financial framework should ensure a financial stability in the euro area and reduce the cost of bank failure. An integrated budgetary framework must solve the fiscal problems and the economic policy framework promotes sustainable growth, employment and competitiveness. Democratic legitimacy and accountability encourages transparency, democracy and education among the population. The governments should respect the citizens and should inform them about the decision making process. These four solutions are necessary for a longterm stability and prosperity in the European Union, but without the support of the governments and the citizens, without coordination and cooperation, the crisis will remain here for a long, long time. At least, now we now whats happening with our money for clubbing...

No challenge for Super Cosmo

Once upon a time, in a far away land, lived a superhero whose powers exceeded those of Superman, Batman and Spiderman all together. He went by the name of Super Cosmo, the internet guardian. He never closed an eye and looked out for the safety of the world wide web. The need for such a brave hero emerged with the rise of what the human kind now knows as the Internet. This marvelous space where everything is possible, from commerce to digital photographic manipulation and human chatting, is nothing different from the real world. Threats are in each shadowy corner and with any click, humans are prone to enter a very dangerous zone that is anything else but butterflies and unicorns.

were created, such as bank fraud, identity theft, extortion and theft of classified information. Once more, Super Cosmo came to save the day and improved filters of security. Seeing how this brave super hero would always manage to overcome their attempts, the villains came up with yet another plague towards the online community: harassment, verbal threats and even drug trafficking. Furthermore, they went deeper and deeper and invented Cyber terrorism and cyber warfare. Cyber terrorism is a specific form of terrorism that implies intimidating a government by launching computer-based attacks against networks, software, machines and the information stored on them. On the other hand, cyber warfare relies on attacks addressed

The dark forces have plotted and then conceived a terrible plan with multiple sides to help them take over the world with the help of the web. First of all, they gathered an army of annoying people who, with their inimitable abilities, invented spamming. This is a term describing bulk e-mail sent to a multitude of recipients with the usual purpose of advertising. In many places, this is illegal. But Super Cosmo came up with the solution, though it is still in its experiment phase and its on the way to perfect: anti-spam filters. Then, when the masterminds realized they were no match for Super Cosmos brain, they invented fraud. This represents all illegal alterations brought to materials with the intent of causing loss. But with the failure of scamming, fraud was made tougher to handle: branches

to countries or political areas, such as the attack on the Estonian infrastructure back in 2007. With all of these assaults on the internet, Super Cosmo grew weaker and weaker, so the world, both for their own protection and to thank their hero, came up with 3 treaties: ACTA, SOPA and PIPA, in order to protect copyright and prevent further crime. With all the help provided, Super Cosmo is on the way of recovering his strength and redeeming the internet as a safe place. But there is still so much to go and so many to do. Will the CRIM committee take up the challenge of reinstalling the safety of the world wide web and protect user privacy?

In the context of the recent financial crisis, young people have difficulties on the labor market. On a second glimpse, unemployment could also be considered not merely as a deprivation of income, but also a deprivation of dignity. Such deprivation may generate depression, disillusionment and isolation and therefore could trigger or aggravate psychological and physical problems. International migration can contribute to economic growth of the EU as a whole, while providing resources to migrants and their countries of origin and thus participating in their development. EYP faces/ Interview - Alexa Popa

Usually we dont see the organisers at a session. We imagine that behind the event there are just some teachers or some old persons following the schedule. No, we dont see the orgas as the screaming guys there, we dont see them at all, especially if we are delegates. But organising each and every part of the event require not only a strong personality and a good sense of ledearship, but also the strenght to make all really happen till the end without running. Head Orga at Tomis Forum I 2012, Alexandra Popa accepted to share with us some aspects of her experience... - Who are you, Alexa? Hmm, who am I? Most of people call me Alexa and I will definitely...stop here because I like to be discovered, not to discover myself. And as a matter of fact, maybe this is the thing I hate the most about people: talking about their own accomplishments, virtues, about themselves. Oh, wait. I just did. - Hows being the Head Orga? Have you been an orga before? Well, everybody knows that being an organiser is an immensly responsability every single time. I had been a head organiser before and it was an amazing experience. I had to take care of the whole event, from start to finish but my dearest organisers Luiza and Silviu have been constantly helping me throughtout the whole organisational process. I think I would have never made it without their help. Constanta and Mamaia and during the entire trip I was afraid that some of the delegates might get lost. But everything turned up alright.

We want to know mooOre....

- How can one scare you? Surprising me with a caterpillar. It happened and trust me, it didnt end so funny.

- If you were to make a stupid joke to the delegates, what would you do? I would take my organisers and leave the forum for a couple of days. I am very curious how things would turn out without our supervision. And I am sure the delegates wouldnt hate us so much after this experience and they will respect us more than they do right now. They have to understand that being an organiser doesnt mean we have to be cute and cuddly with - 3 qualities that make you a good orga. 3 miseveryone, if so, the session will literally fall apart. But takes from which you learned something. i really look forward for the moment when they will There are a lot of qualities an orga need in order to be themselves organisers and hopefully, they will all make the session run smoothly but if I were to choose understand the pressure we are experiencing. only three, there would be perseverence, a good eye for details and of course, lots of patience!! - How many times did you have a shower during this Regarding the mistakes, I am convinced the session session? wasnt perfect, but the main thing Ive learnt is not This is a tricky question, I wont answer this, but i asto eat too much ice cream before the session because sure you I did shower a couple of times . during the event my voice would be more than helpful - At what moment were you at the point of runing and give up your position...in fact...what was the most difficult moment at this session? Oh, God, there were so many difficult moments, but there wasnt one that made me want to pack my things and go home. Every single time I tried to treat the problem as diplomatic as i could. One of the most difficult moments of this session was the free time in - After all this, do you want to have your own children? Do you think you will be a good mother? Well, all the delegates and officials told me I was extremely harsh and demanding, and that made me think about having my own kids. But, eventhough it sounds a little cheesy, I will definitely like to have a boy and a girl, someday, in the future, who will continue my EYP activities. Or at least I hope so.

Ok, what if you missed the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert in Bucharest ? What if Lenny Kravitz postponed his visit to Romania ? We had here, at Tomis Forum 2012, the pleasure to be welcomed by our lovely guests Mateo Klanisek and Denisa Csepregi to the unforgettable Tomis Concert... Ladies and gentlemen, let the show begin ! Roaming around, we discovered the most appreciated performers, how catchy was the end and how close was the relationship between singers and their public, which could be easily described in three words by Ioana Moldovan: receptive, attentive, fabulous. I felt like a rockstar. Deac Vlad, ECON delegate, cant really pick up those three words, as everybody was awesome, I felt like home, namely under my shower. It turned out great, I enjoyed every single moment of it ! . You must remember as well Ciuraru Teodor, as he was the first and... you know, you never forget the first one ! Awesome, it was fun to break the ice, and also a pleasure. It was one of the most fabulous experiences in my life. I had sung many times, but this time was totally special. CRIMs journo, Alexandra Lazar, thinks there could have been room for better and there was one thing to work at: the lack of an interactive component and a better involvement of the audience . Furthermore, the award for the best female performance goes to... mm, well, we should prepare a couple of awards, they just couldnt agree on naming a single musician. Izel Selim (ENVI) and Vlad Deac (ECON) were on the same wavelength when choosing the best musician and mentioned that Ioana Moldovan was really talented... and hot, am I allowed to say this ? added Vlad. Of course, you naughty ! When talking about the best male performances, Izel Selim would award the-electric-guitar-guy, Vlad Deac, as he transmitted a great vibe. Besides, Oliver has a warm, nice voice and literally ripped everyones heart out with his outstanding performance, states Razvan Burciu, ECON delegate. As a famous quote says, save the best for the last ! Or at least this is what Ana Olaru (CRIM) thinks: I really loved it when the last performers, Liviu Stamat and his friend invited all the singers to join them. Yeah, Id like to be original, but I guess everyone else has the same opionion: the best male performance award should go to Liviu Stamat !, adds a fellow delegate. Anyway, for a general opinion on all the performances in this concert, Casian Stan (EMPL) would nominate the trio that sang Wonderwall, while Ana Olaru declares that all the singers were great and performed amazingly but I think that Lucia was the one who attracted the public attention. The hot trends of the moment were exhibited by EYP girls better than catwalk models: peplum tops, asymmetric skirts and flapper dresses were all over the place. Outfits were completed by colorful matching shoes: snakeskin print, leather and sometimes silk and suede.

White is the new black

o how did they do that? A far ahead winner of the village food and costumes, the girls and boys from Constanta rocked in their stripped navy suits. In contrast to them were the girls from the Netherlands who could be spotted from the distance thanks to their unique orange dresses. Moldavia hit it hard with their traditional suits along with a very special costume from Transylvania. The waxed cotton of the tops gave their whole outfits a very traditional finish and sent everyone who interacted with her back to the time of their outfits.

Sun and skin

eambuilding on the beach? Then you are certainly prone to seeing some great taste in choosing ruffles, colors and textures. This time, the girls chose brightly colored form fitting suits, usually in two pieces. The star element of this season was too present: the ruffles. With either one ruffle on the bra or dozens of girly ones, forms were flattered. The next top item was the twisted bra. This one gives a sophisticated aspect whatever the occasion. For guys, the best choice were, as usual, the short pants, this time with tropical prints and colorful shades.

Mozart and Moschino

he EYPs concert is always the best reason to take out of the closet that amazingly elegant dress that you cant usually wear on an usual occasion. The best dresses were short, but there was an amazingly stunning turquoise dress with one shoulder showing. As mentioned before, the key piece of the night was the peplum dress. To illustrate the versatility of the model, two delegates chose to mix it first with a black leather jacket and then with wooden tones in the accessories.

Time to say goodbye P.E.D.: PED[peh-eh-dee]: something you wont find in any dictionary
Some of you may have heard of it, some maybe not. But all of you are prone to suffer from it at a certain point in your EYP career. Its what we call PED Post EYP Depression. And its really serious, dont even think about underestimating it ! The bad news is that its quite contagious, but there is also a good part of it... there is, indeed, a kind of medicine for it, a solution to get over it. Or many. as that ! Did I make myself understood ? Really now, what are you waiting for ? 3.Taking a nap has always helped people see things from another perspective. But hibernating for a couple of days in a row defintely makes a difference. You said you want to forget about this, right ? Well, you risk having about 573475098 missed calls, but its worth it ! Besides, you didnt get much sleep during the session either, did you ? 4.Last, but not least, let me introduce you the simplest and most effective way to forget about PED. Yeah, I know, you wouldnt expect that, but filling in the application form for the next EYP session does hit your target. And along with another session, there comes another PED... and another hardcore party, mountains of chocolate and plans for the next session. I admit, I shed a tear during the closing ceremony on Imagine. Ok, ok, not only one. They just had a reason, and the reason is that what happened here wont happen again, that well never be in this place again in this very same formula, that every minute is unique and irreplaceable and that what we found here hilarious will soon turn into nostalgic. Fights, arguments, tension, sleepless nights, bad food or no food... they just dont matter anymore theyre part of the past. What you can rely on from now on is the future. And the bunch of friends you made during this way too short Tomis forum. Really now, why do all good things come to an end ? PS: If you wont find an answer for this question, then this is a sign you should join us to the next EYP session. Yes, the good things come to an end. But youll see the awesome things never do.

1.Some say the song of the session helps a lot, some say it turns the nostalgia into a permanent straight face. Just find your own way to listen to that song, to watch the session videos or to browse through those photos so that it actually makes you feel again the EYP spirit, not the lack of it. The EYP Romania group on Facebook is already full of them... grab a kilo of popcorn and be afraid. Very afraid you have no idea what the journo team is capable of. 2.Tons of chocolate. Im totally sure youre aware that chocolate contains a caffeine-like stimulant called theobromine, as well as a compound called anandamide that can produce similar results to marijuana, as the compound binds with the same receptors as marijuanas psychoactive units and causes the feelings of happiness and contentment. Yes, yes, as simple
