Logos
Description:
I was approached by a company that asked to me create a logo for them. I was allowed to research the company to help me design logos that fit them. They wanted me to first create three various logos for them to chose from.

Programs/Tools Used:
Illustrator, Pen tool

Date:

November 2nd 2013

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130, section 6 Julie Peterson

Objection:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. Use only the tools of Illustrator. Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 verticle page

Process:

I first needed to decided my color scheme and theme for my logos before I made them. The company name is what inspired the colors, which is why I picked colors that give off a tropical vibe like blues and greens. I then decided I wanted one logo to be elegant, one to be playful and one to be simple. This is what led to the three different logos. The first one I used the rectangle tool to create the boxes as well as in the third logo, while in the second logo I used to pen tool to create the dorsal fins.

Comm 130, section 6 Julie Peterson

Objection:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.) Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:

First I needed to decide if I wanted to create a new logo or use an existing one I had made, and I decided on an existing one because that was the most popular of all my logos. I then needed to decide which of the four photos I had I wanted to cut out for the text wrap. I chose the simplest of the four, which is the girl laying down, I took the photo into photoshop and cut out the photo, and then placed it into my brochure. Once I had an idea where I wanted my photos, body copy and sub heads to be I then inserted my text. From there I then messed around with alignment, text sizes and unique ways to mess with photos until I got the brochure to look how I wanted. To get the jagged photo effect that the beach photo has I had to place that photo in the document 9 times, each time cropping it differently.

Flier
Description:
My employer asked me to created a flier, he presented me with the information and the logo and asked me to make a layout that was appealing and attractive.

Objection:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

So first I made about four sketches and then decided which one I liked best. I took my favorite sketch to InDesign and began mapping it out. I created four different text boxes for my title and body copy. I then decided to frame those boxes by using the rectangle tool, I created rectangle lines and used those as my repetition. I then made my title text white while giving it a black background by using the rectangle tool again, this made my title pop and become the first thing that people read.

Event Ad
Description:
The Chamber of Commerce has asked me to create an event ad for a Christmas bake sale that they are sponsoring, the proceeds go to the renovation of the Senior Citizens Center.

Programs/Tools Used:
Microsoft Word

Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130, section 6 Julie Peterson

Objection:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

So I first had to search for a photo to scan, I figured it would be easier to find a photo and then frame the ad around that instead of putting the ad together and having to try to find the perfect photo. After I found the photo of the christmas treat I decided for my ad to be about a Christmas bake sale, this is also because the colors in the photo were Christmas colors, so I had my color scheme. I then decided how I wanted to do my color blocking, I looked at the examples on I-learn and a couple other ones and then finally decided on the lines of color. I used the text box tool to create the different lines of color and filled them with what I wanted. I chose the lines because they frame things nicely and look simple.

Christmas Bake Sale

Objection:

Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150 Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Document needs to be 8.511 150 resolution. Margins: top 2, sides 1.25 and bottom 3

Process:

I first went around campus deciding what would be good pictures to take by paying attention to lighting. Once I uploaded them I settled on a photo that has the focus on the wheat grass while the MC is out of focus in the background. I then placed this photo into Photoshop to begin editing it. First I had to use the selection tool to select the grass and then I inverted my selection and desaturated my background on the photo. I then placed a grainy filter over the whole photo.

Objection:

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images) Use filters. (Apply at least one) Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels) Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice) Unifying a piece with a consistent theme

Process:

I first decided what I wanted my inspiration to be and in this case it was the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The quote then led me to to try find pictures that fit well. I decided to use flowers because flowers are beautiful and most people think that, so I think they complimented the quote nicely. I then decided how exactly I wanted to blend the two photos together by using the mask tool, I played around a lot with the position and finally settled on what is above. I then wanted more contrast between the quote and the flower background so I added a black box around it and then blended it into the photo behind it.
