CHRIST
THE
KING
Christ the King Mission Statement
The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Foundations of Faith New Evangelization Class Monday, January 6, 2014 7pm in Parish Life Center
As Catholics, we have received a baptismal calling to holiness and to evangelization that is, to spreading the Good News of Jesus. Some of us are called to help teach the faith, or to catechize those whove heard and accepted Gospel; but all of us are called to help propose--or re-propose--Christ to those we encounter on a daily basis. This evening is great for parents and catechists. Eileen Maggiore will be presenting this topic as an instructor for the Office of Lay Ministry Formation from the Diocese of Joliet. Please RSVP to Sherry at sherry@ctklombard.org or Eileen at Eileen@ctkombard.org.

Have You Noticed the New CDs in the Narthex? These Make Great Stocking Stuffers
Week #3 - Get to Know the Mother of God Presented by Lighthouse Catholic Youth: Theres a little bit about Mary in Scripture. We can glean a bit more from the Tradition of the Church. But where can we go to get the complete picture, to find out about the whole Mary? In an engaging style, Chris Padgett does just that as he walks us through what the Bible has to say about the Mother of God. What has she meant to the Church throughout the centuries, what have the saints told us about her, and most importantly, what we can learn from her ourselves? This CD also includes selections from The Rosary Project, a unique celebration of prayer and song from Chris Padgett.

I have received formal permission from Glenbard East High School administration to sponsor a Catholic Student Club and have filled out all the necessary paperwork to do so. Now all we need are some interested students who would like to run this club. (I can't recruit members but students can.) Please pass my school information on to any students who you think would be interested. I also have wonderful resources and videos from OutsideDa Box that we can use each week. Please tell the kids not to be intimidated at the thought of running a club. I can help them. We could all meet twice a month to start and then take it from there. St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at Christ the King Parish Thank you to our parishioners and local businesses: Jewel, Ultra, Panera, Starbucks, Chipotle, Pizza Hut and Capital Grill. With your contributions we are able to provide meat, milk, produce, bread and bakery to our clients in addition to non-perishable items. We purchase food from Northern Illinois Food Bank monthly. The prices we pay are reasonable and each month we also receive some items free. We benefit from food drives in the area. This week, Montini High School donated 5 vans full of canned and nonperishable food. The Early Learning Academy children brought up 3 wagon loads of food that their families donated. Etz Chaim is always a big donor at their High Holidays, this year donating over 400 bags of groceries. In addition to cash donations, our parishioners often drop off eggs, cereal, and fresh garden vegetables. One family this Fall contributed new winter coats and back-packs, with pencils, crayons and other school supplies. A friend donated 80 warm hats and scarves and one of our parishioners knitted warm scarves for our clients. The number of clients we serve continues to grow each year. We expect to serve 5200 people in 2013. Each time they visit, our clients leave with a cart full of groceries. We sometimes have diapers, baby food, laundry detergent, and personal care items. These are very welcome. We provide a gift card to qualifying families each month to purchase additional items at Ultra Foods. We are also able to help each month with food for Pads. For larger families at Thanksgiving, this year, we gave out 39 turkeys with all the food to prepare Thanksgiving Meals. For smaller families, Maxfields invited our clients to have Thanksgiving dinners free of charge. We thank everyone who purchased gifts for the Giving Tree. We put a record 100 tags on the tree for the children of our clients this year. The parents are very grateful. You make their holidays special. This Fall we installed a computer data base that we are using to sign in our clients. Coordinating all of the benefits that we provide is complicated. The coordination of benefits was a manual system and finding the families who qualified for special benefits often depended on our volunteers memories. Now we can define our criteria and find the qualifying families accurately and quickly. Our new data base will also allow us to submit reports and compare our annual volumes more easily. Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me. (Matt 25: 40) God Bless our contributors.
