Questionnaire Analysis

In order to gain necessary demographic and psychographic information in preparation for Ovation magazine, I created a questionnaire regarding music and handed it out to 20 volunteers. The volunteers were mostly white males, as that demographic is highly popular among the fanbase of alternative music. Here is a link to my questionnaire. Results of questions: 1) Mean score of 8.5, showing that music features strongly in the participants lives. 2) The most common genre chosen was Rock, with 11/20 votes, while Rap received 4, and Pop received 2. In the other section, Indie Rock featured 3 times. 3) The participants reactions to this question were greatly varied, with artists such as Foo Fighters, Jay Z and King Crimson all featuring, although only one artist was mentioned more than once: Nirvana. The reasons behind the participants selections were also greatly varied, but in general, the most popular notion was simply that they like their music the most. 4) The response to this question was highly mixed, with fairly similar percentages occurring: 6 voted Never, 7 voted Occasionally, 3 voted Fairly Often and 4 voted Very Often. 5) The most common choice here was Online, with 13 votes to 7. 6) This question revealed that a prominent minority of the participants prefer not to listen to the radio, with 9 writing N/A in the space. The second place was awarded to XFM, which gained 5 votes, Absolute Radio gained 3 and other radio stations only appeared once. 7) Surprisingly, the results of this question were almost evenly split; News was the most popular choice, with 6 votes, followed by Interviews and Reviews which both gained 5, and Free Gifts were the least popular option, with only 4 votes. 8) There was a firm reaction to this question, with 12 participants stating No to purchasing band merchandise, while the Yes and Sometimes sections both gained 4 votes. 9) A very balanced reaction was seen here, with 11 participants stating No and 9 stating Yes. 10) Unsurprisingly, there was a highly varied reaction to this question, with a vast array of albums being chosen. However, two Radiohead albums featured OK Computer and Kid A, and they both came with the same reason; that they revolutionised music. Upon analysing the aforementioned results, I have come to the conclusion that I should: ~ Focus on alt-rock, while also considering rap and indie rock. ~ Pack as much information into the magazine as possible, making it of good value for money, thus persuading the audience to purchase the magazine. ~ Feature a very wide range of artists. ~ Possibly make an additional radio station linked to the magazine. ~ Definitely have a website. ~ Focus more on news and intriguing information, as opposed to giving away free gifts.
