WELCOME

WELCOME TO THE FINANCIAL INCLUSION 2020 GLOBAL FORUM! This week, we welcome a stunning array of private sector leaders, regulators, industry developers, technology providers, academics, businesses, banks, insurance companies, government ofcials and many more stakeholders in the international nancial system. They join us from all over the world from global businesses based in New York City and London, from government agencies in Russia and the Philippines, from technology startups in Kenya and Peru, and from the worlds top universities and research centers. Together, we form a movement seeking to bring about full nancial inclusion for the 2.5 billion people around the world who live in poverty and lack access to the services many of us take for granted from electronic payments, to savings and credit for major life events, to protection against risks through insurance. By mobilizing around this goal, were nding new ways to reach underserved customers at the base of the pyramid. Were seeking to better understand the invisible market and the needs of the people who comprise it. Were charting a course toward a nancially inclusive world. The political will and business case for nancial inclusion are getting stronger every year. More and more of those 2.5 billion people are starting to participate in the global economy, and they will be seeking the nancial services that enable them to do so. FI2020 challenges the global community to commit to a principled, informed and passionate approach to this goal. With your leadership, our momentum will continue to grow. We are condent this conference will be an exciting, productive and thought-provoking experience. While you are here with us, we ask each of you to actively consider and commit to new ways for you and your organization to contribute to nancial inclusion. Could full nancial inclusion around the globe really be achieved by the year 2020? Lets make sure of it. With our very best wishes,

WORKING GROUPS: MEMBERS

ROADMAP TO FINANCIAL INCLUSION

Through an extensive consultative process, the Center for Financial Inclusion at Accion has developed a set of recommendations to move nancial inclusion forward, using the year 2020 to galvanize thought and action. Five working groups of global experts from the public and private sectors each developed a roadmap that serves as a springboard for dialogue and action. If we truly aim for an audacious vision of full inclusion by 2020, the gap between principles and reality must close. The roadmap principles are meant to help the nancial inclusion community stay focused and accountable for guiding inclusion in a direction that will fulll its promise to improve lives and boost economies. They demonstrate the need for a strong demand-side orientation, signaling that nancial inclusion is not just about expanding access, but also about ensuring quality so that usage will be high and customers will benet.
