1i READ ME Dear Xilinx Customer, Welcome, and thank you for choosing the Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE) version 8.1i software. This file contains information about software and documentation installation. See the following resources for additional information: * READ ME FIRST Hot Sheet (printed hard copy): provides important information that you must know before installing the software. * Welcome Letter (printed hard copy): lists items included in the box shipped to you by Xilinx. * ISE 8.1i Release Notes and Installation Guide (printed hard copy): lists ISE 8.1i software contents and provides installation instructions. Note: This document is also available on the Xilinx Website at: http://www.xilinx.com/support/sw_manuals/xilinx8/download * What's New in Xilinx ISE 8.1i (HTML): lists the new features in this release. After installation, select Start > Programs > Xilinx ISE 8 > Documentation > What's New to view this file. You can also access this file from the ISE Help by selecting Help > Help Topics in Project Navigator. The What's New is also available on the ISE DVD in the idata/usenglish directory. Software Installation ********************* For more information on software installation, see the ISE 8.1i Release Notes and Installation Guide. For information on the software version and service pack loaded on your computer, see the Xilinx XInfo System Checker. You can launch the XInfo System Checker by running the xinfo file from the root directory of the ISE 8.1i DVD or from your operating system as follows: * Windows: Select Start > Programs > Xilinx ISE 8.1i > Accessories > XInfo System Checker. * Linux: Run the xinfo file from the $XILINX/bin/lin directory. * Linux64: Run the xinfo file from the $XILINX/bin/lin64 directory. * Solaris: Run the xinfo file from the $XILINX/bin/sol directory. Software Registration ********************* During installation, you must enter your Product ID to receive a 16-digit Registration ID, which allows you to finish the software installation. Registration of Xilinx software on a "per end-user" basis ensures that you receive the full complement of support and services to which you are entitled. Choose one of the following registration options, which are presented

during installation: * Website (fastest option) * Email * Fax Note: Registered ISE WebPACK customers are entitled to Web support only. To register, go to: http://www.xilinx.com/ise/webpack After you register, you can get more information about Web support at: http://www.xilinx.com/webpack/support/help.htm Software Manuals Installation ***************************** The Xilinx ISE documentation automatically installs as part of the software installation. After you install the software, you can select Help > Software Manuals to access the Software Manuals collection. For added convenience, Xilinx Software Manuals are also on the Web. Go to http://www.xilinx.com/support, and click the "Software Manuals" link. Note: The documentation is not installed as part of ISE WebPACK installations. Adobe Acrobat Reader+Search Installation **************************************** To ensure that you can view and search the software manuals, upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Reader+Search as follows: Windows: 1. Go to the root directory of the DVD. 2. Go to the usenglish\acrobat\pc directory. 3. Double-click the executable file. Linux: 1. Go to the root directory of the 2. Go to the usenglish/acrobat/lin 3.
