Good afternoon, I am and I am the first speaker of the Opposition.

We declare ourselves against the motion which states that students in their final year should only come to classes which are relevant to their exams. In the present day students have the obligation to come to a certain number of classes, depending on their high school profile, but in average they have a maximum number of !" hours per week, #$ of which are related strictly to the profile they%ve chosen. We consider this a perfect balance between the compulsory profile courses, which represent the basis for the future universities that students will choose and the other classes meant to help them achieve general knowledge, basic information that everyone should know. We think that the first argument brought in by the first speaker of the Government has no grounds& is based on erroneous information& We also disagree with their second argument which contradicts&oppose the definition of education which means 'the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction at school or university(. )ow can we still call our system, an educational one, if we are thinking of cutting off important courses which have as a main role the intellectual development of the students. ... *in ca+ul in care al doilea lor argument se refera la faptul ca avem in program si ore neimportante, -s we don%t agree with the motion given by the Government, let me present you our first counterargument, the financial one. If students were to come only to the classes which are relevant to their exams, the effect would be dramatic for the teachers whose sub.ects are not included in the final examination. -nd by dramatic, I mean that they will be left without their basic number of courses, thing which will lead imminently to a massive salary reduction. The Romanian Educational Law clearly states that, and please allow me to quote the article 49 from the 4 th Chapter The teaching norm and payment conditions The salary of primary school or high schools teachers is established differently by taking in consideration the

professional level achieved and the number of hours performed. /or example, a teacher who has the norm of #$ hours per week and is being forced to give up to 0, the ones which were theoretically allocated to the #1 grade classes, will have his salary reduced with 123. 4his means that from a basic payment of #2"" lei, he will get only #1"" lei with !"" lei less, which is not exactly an insignificant amount of money given the fact that they are complaining of having the lowest salary in 5urope as public servants. 66667ome people may say that reducing the teachers% activity would be great, because with money saved from the salary reduction we could help society. We totally disagree with this idea because is more important to teach people HO to earn a living than to get them used to live at the society%s mercy. Good afternoon I am.and I am the second speaker of the opposition. )aving listened to the arguments of the Government%s second speaker allow me to say that they have no relevance, nor make sense for the motion we are debating........................................................ In order to strengthen our first argument, I will bring to your attention some statistics made by the 8omanian 9ational Institute which confirm that 8omanian teachers% salaries are far behind the ones from 5urope. /or example, in :enmark teachers are paid with 2; euro per hour, in -ustria and Germany with 02, whereas in 8omania they get only 0 euros per hour which is really embarrassing and disappointing. 4herefore we can%t accept this motion because it leads to cutting off the salaries and we don%t think we can reduce more money from those tiny 0 euros. Our next argument is related to the role of the education. We can%t label some courses as unimportant or useless because each one listed by the <inistry of 5ducation has it clear purpose and has the same importance as the courses chosen for the final exam. =y eliminating them from the students% schedule we would deprive young people from receiving a proper education. 4he knowledge a man should ac>uire is so vast that what he&she is learning at school is classified as being the minimum re>uired, so we can%t reduce more the amount of information taught by teachers, nor the sub.ects. /or example, 0"3 of young people don%t know who are the most important 8omanian historical figures from the <edieval -ge, nor the location of the main cities or rivers from our country. -s we don%t want this situation to expand and get undesirable proportions, because it%s embarrassing for our citi+ens not to know the elementary things about their country, we cannot take in consideration a decrease in the educational curriculum.

This is strongly supported !y the article " from the Romanian Educational Law which states that Educational System must provide its students with a certain code of moral values, develop their creative skills and basic knowledge 7o reducing the curriculum would contravene the law??????????? Good afternoon, I am. and I am the third speaker of the Opposition. 8egarding to what the Government has .ust said@ we agree that students in their final year should focus more on what they really need in order to achieve their goals, but we cannot totally exclude those 'less important sub.ects( from the curriculum because it will lead to a reduction of the teachers% salaries .ust as my colleague previously stated and proved it. /urthermore, the teachers are aware that #1 grade students need to focus more on their priorities and so they are more indulgent, allowing them to study for their exams during a part of their class. 9owadays young people need a strict schedule in order to study for their exams because, as many scientific researches have proved, when they have plenty of free time students tend to postpone their duties choosing instead to watch movies, surf on the Internet or do other unproductive activities that seem to capture their attention more and more. =efore cutting of the 'useless courses( we must think to those unfortunate children who have school as only source of information. 9ot everyone has access to Internet, or money for private classes or books, so we <A74 9O4 =5 75B/I7). 7chool must be the same for the 8IC) -9: DOO8 and provide them e>ually with the same amount of information. Eust to highlight the importance of each course taught at school imagine yourself taking part in a conversation related to historical event of our country and not being able to express your opinion about that sub.ect because you don%t know anything, because you didn%t studied at school, or even worse to be asked by your children when 8omania was actually formed and .ust to tell them to make a research on the internet. Wouldn%t you feel embarrassed and humiliatedF 7O 4)I9G 4WIC5 =5/O85 A9:5874I<-4I9G 4)5 8OB5 O/ 4)5 5:AC-4IO9 because as =en.amin /ranklin said : n investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
