OVERVIEW OF DISKEEPER 12 ============================== For over a decade, Diskeeper has led the way in Windows system defragmentation technology, and Diskeeper 12 continues with the tradition of true Set It and Forget It[R] performance enhancement that is a hallmark of the Diskeeper name. Whether you've used Diskeeper before or not, you may already be familiar with some of its features, but Diskeeper 12 adds refinements to these features, and a number of other core enhancements. New users will find Diskeeper to be easy to use, yet comprehensive in its capabilities. Experienced Diskeeper users will recognize familiar features, but see improvements in Diskeeper (and their system) performance. This list summarizes the most important features in the various editions. More information about each of these features is available in the Diskeeper Help system: Automatic Operation -----------------------------Diskeeper is designed to operate without your intervention. Simply install Diskeeper, then sit back and let it take care of the details. Of course, you can also run Diskeeper manually. (But you probably have better things to do with your time. That's what IntelliWrite and Automatic Defragmentation is for!) Fragmentation Prevention - IntelliWrite ------------------------------------------------------IntelliWrite is a ground breaking technology that prevents the majority of fragmentation from ever occurring, dramatically improving Windows system performance. Automatic Defragmentation -----------------------------------For the small percentage of fragmentation that cannot be prevented with IntelliWrite, Automatic Defragmentation will automatically eliminate fragmentation without any negative performance impact on other applications that are running.

Instant Defrag --------------------Instant Defrag is an enhancement to Automatic Defragmentation that rapidly eliminates any fragmentation that is not proactively prevented with IntelliWrite . Rather than waiting for potentially extended periods of time for fragmentation to build up, this feature provides uninterrupted peak system performance. Progressively more beneficial the larger the volume, Instant Defrag also saves system resources by minimizing the need for volume-wide analysis and defragmentation tasks. Note: The Instant Defrag engine does not run on FAT volumes. Diskeeper Family of Products ------------------------------------------The Diskeeper family of products offers specialized automatic defragmentation of supported Windows operating systems. Intuitive Interface ----------------------------The Diskeeper interface provides intuitive configuration and reporting on the performance improvements provided by Diskeeper. Diskeeper shows you the condition of your disks, and provides suggestions for improving or maintaining your disks. Performance and Volume Health Analysis --------------------------------------------------------Diskeeper collects and displays data regarding the performance and overall health of your volumes. This information allows you to be more proactive in the management and maintenance of your computers. I-FAAST[R] Technology ----------------------------------Intelligent File Access Acceleration Sequencing Technology (I-FAAST) improves file access/creation by up to 80% (average 10%-20%) above and beyond the improvement provided by defragmentation alone. This is the first industry implementation of Disk Performance Calibration, the modern evolution of the outdated and inconclusive disk optimization strategies of the past. Terabyte Volume Engine[TM] Defragmentation ---------------------------------------------------------------A Diskeeper exclusive, the Terabyte Volume Engine (TVE) is designed to efficient ly defragment today's large volumes. This feature is available in select Diskeeper ed itions. Titan Defrag Engine [TM] Defragmentation ---------------------------------------------------------The Titan Defrag Engine is specially developed for the most massive data volumes ever created. Starting at volumes containing 4 to 5 TB of data, the Titan Defrag Engine will complete the job even faster and more thoroughly than the TVE. The

Titan Defrag Engine is the only defragmentation solution capable of handling 10 TB, 20 TB and even greater amounts of data. This feature is available in select Diskeeper editions. Boot-Time Defragmentation ---------------------------------------Defragment files at boot-time that cannot be moved safely when Windows is runnin g. Exclusion Lists --------------Diskeeper exclusion lists allow you to specify files and directories that will not be allowed to be processed by Diskeeper. Event Logging ------------Diskeeper records information about its activity in two ways. First, general information about previously-run defragmentation job is shown in the Log within the Diskeeper reports. Additional information can also be stored in a log file. A wide variety of information can be saved for future reference. Simultaneous Analysis or Defragmentation Operations --------------------------------------------------You can analyze and/or defragment more than one disk volume at a time with Diske eper. Command Line Operation ----------------------------------You can use commands from the Windows Command Prompt or a batch file to control Diskeeper. Group Policy Support -----------------------------Diskeeper can be configured network-wide with the Group Policy Editor on Windows operating systems that are supported by Diskeeper.

CHANGES IN DISKEEPER 12 ============================= Here is a summary of what's new in this version: New User Interface --------------------------The Diskeeper Interface has been given a more modern look and feel, simplified navigation and drill-down architecture of information. Alerting Mechanism ---------------------------This high level alerting mechanism will let you know at a glance if your system

has any problems relating to performance, disk health and configuration settings . Reporting Mechanism ------------------------------The reporting mechanism provides current and historical reports about your syste m. Disk Health ----------------The Disk Health feature monitors hard disk drives for S.M.A.R.T. data to generat e alerts and provides a disk health report. System Monitoring -------------------------System Monitoring monitors system environment activity and provides reporting on key elements. Note: System Monitoring report data will only become available 2 to 3 hours afte r your system has been rebooted. HyperBoot ---------------HyperBoot technology has been incorporated into Diskeeper to improve system boot time. Note: HyperBoot will only work on non-server operating systems. Space Reclamation ---------------------------Space Reclamation allows you to manually zero out unused space on a selected vol ume. Note: Space Reclamation is only available on Server editions of Diskeeper. CogniSAN ---------------This technology detects external resource usage within a shared storage system, such as a SAN, and allows for transparent optimization by never competing for resourc es utilized by other VMs over the same storage infrastructure. Any and all SANs are supported! Note: CogniSAN only detects external resources on server editions of Diskeeper. HyperFast Improvements ----------------------------------HyperFast now includes TRIM that further improves Solid State Drive performance and longevity. C. CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE

KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES =========================== Diskeeper is incompatible with the following third party software applications. 1. Acronis Backup and Recovery -- To avoid any potential data loss we don't recom mend defragmenting volumes on which Acronis Backup and Recovery is enabled.

F. INSTALLING DISKEEPER ======================== Note: Make sure you are logged onto an account that is a member of the Administr ators group. Diskeeper is installed from an installation package downloaded from the Web. Note: Diskeeper requires that you have .Net 4.0 Client or Full edition installed on the target machine in order to run. If you do not already have .Net 4.0 installed on the ta rget machine, it will automatically download and install when you start the Diskeeper installa tion. Follow these steps to install Diskeeper: The Diskeeper installation is typically fast and simple. Here are the basic steps: 1. Double-click the Diskeeper installation file you downloaded from the Web. 2. Follow the screens displayed, answering the questions asked as prompted.

G. UNINSTALLING DISKEEPER ========================== To uninstall Diskeeper, you must be logged into an account that is a member of the Administrators group. Follow these steps to completely remove and uninstall Diskeeper from your computer. Note that the controls may have slightly different names, depending on your version of Windows: 1. From Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs". 2. Highlight the Diskeeper entry.

3. Click Remove. This removes the Diskeeper program files from your computer. In most cases, the Diskeeper installation directory will not be removed. 4. During the uninstall process, the Windows Disk Defragmenter is restored to the state it was in before Diskeeper was installed. 5. Manually delete the Diskeeper installation directory if it exists. Note: you will need to reboot your system after uninstalling Diskeeper 12.
