action verbs can be used
with continuous tenses

Some common state verbs are:
verbs connected with thinking and
opinions
believe, feel, hate, know, like, love,
prefer, think, understand, want
verbs connected with the senses appear, feel, look, seem, smell, sound,
taste

verb + infnitive (with to)
I sometimes forget to switch off my computer.
Youre planning to buy a house.
She didnt want to go to the party.
They decided to have a meal out.
Use an infnitive with to after some verbs

past passive
Use the past passive when you dont know who did an action, or
when the action was more important than the person who did it.
active passive
I took I was taken by taxi.
You / We / They woke up You / We / They were woken up by a noise.
He / She / It visited He / She / It was visited by friends.
To make the past passive, use was / were + a past participle
Use by with the passive to say who or what did an action.

sentence adverbs
Use sentence adverbs to show how a sentence connects to the rest
of a text.
Use clearly to say that something is true.
Use however to add a contrast.
Use fnally to add your last point.
clearly Global warming is a big problem. Clearly, we have to fnd a solution.
however The hotel was expensive. However, it wasnt very good.
fnally I was ill for two weeks. Finally, I decided to go and see the doctor.

imperatives
Use imperatives to tell a person or people what to do or what not
to do.

Take one pill every four hours.
Go and see the doctor.
Dont drive.
Dont give the pills to children.
To make the imperative, use (dont +) the infnitive of the verb
without to.
