Lead a department of 22 people including 4 managers. Project Management Experience: o Managed the successful implementation of Lawson Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits system from a proprietary legacy system which serviced 15 different union contracts and multiple grandfather clauses for tenured employees. Lawson increased productivity and reduced errors by replacing paper time sheets and eliminating redundant data entry. Lead the in-house application development teams in requirements gathering, business analysis, coding and testing standards and set the direction for all development initiatives. Facilitated the replacement of all enterprise systems at The Buffalo News and installed new computer based systems which replaced manual and labor intensive processes that existed in the production of the newspaper. Automating these processes reduced the number of FTEs required in production by 60%.

New printing presses were installed in 2003 and new plate making equipment was required. I was responsible for vendor selection, price negotiation, installation, configuration, technical support and in-house spare parts inventory. I worked with plant engineers and electricians to ensure that all infrastructure requirements were met and developed a detailed maintenance plan to keep this equipment performing at its highest level. Managed the vendor schedule to begin the vetting process among six different vendors, developed and summarized the requirements from multiple departments, negotiated programming enhancements into the contract, and assisted in developing interfaces with other enterprise systems. This project allowed us to retire 4 legacy systems, eliminated numerous data feeds, and allowed for real-time rendering of display and classified advertising. The advertising call center increased efficiency by 40% and had a ROI of less than one year. Coordinated the in-house development for a custom reporting system. This SQL/VB.net system receives data feeds from enterprise applications and delivers reports with comparative data that were otherwise not available. Each report has been custom designed for the intended department allowing them to better manage their aspect of the business. Supervised the development of input forms for Public Announcements pages via the web. The application auto generates the narrative that is used in the print and online version of the paper. This replaced the old method of the announcement being called in by phone and composed manually, saving The Buffalo News two FTEs. Contracted consultants to introduce strict Search Engine Optimization (SEO) standards for all Buffalo News web pages. Completion of this project increased the page views for BuffaloNews.com news stories and classified content by 50%. Project leader for the successful implementation of a new editorial system. This replaced a twenty year old system and eliminated the duplication of effort required with the legacy product. Prior to this new system, multiple versions of the story were required and were customized for each device (newspaper, web, mobile, iPad, etc.). Productivity in the newsroom increased by 40%. Managed a department of 15 design engineers supporting the design floor, model shop, and tool room using Unigraphics, the latest in 3-D modeling software. Unigraphics provided designers a tool to render 3-D images and sent the output to injection molding machines, creating prototype parts in a few hours. Prior to this process, it could take weeks or months to complete a prototype part.
