Objectives and Outcomes Objectives To Make students understand the nature of construction industry, significance and objectives of construction management, various functions and principles of construction management and organization and also types of organizations in construction industry and construction management teams Outcomes: After completing this unit, students would be able to 1. Explain various functions of construction management 2. Apply basic principles of management and its applications in construction industry Objectives 1. To familiarize students with large scale production, external and internal economics involved. 2. To teach different planning tools applicable to construction like bar charts, Gantt charts, linked bar charts, network techniques like CPM and PERT in both AOA and AON. Demonstrating the same using examples Outcomes: After completing this unit, students would be able to 1. Explain economies of large scale production 2. Utilize Bar Charts, Draw and analyse network diagrams using PERT and CPM techniques in construction industry applications. Objectives To analyse the cost time analysis to arrive at optimum cost time schedule with applications relevant to construction industry and also updating, rescheduling and schedule compressing. Outcomes: After completing this unit, students would be able to 1. Estimate project durations which involve probability distribution curves. 2. Manage resources through cost time trade off, updating, rescheduling and compressing with applications in construction industry Objectives To introduce students the contracting methods including different variants of PPP modes like BOT, SBOO, BOOT, tender drafting and analysis, general conditions and special conditions in contract documents and detailed project report Outcomes: After completing this unit, students would be able to 1. Make use of different methods of contracts 2. Utilize the concepts involved in contract management, safety in construction and contract acts, precautionary measures and methodologies adopted in demolition of buildings. Objectives To teach optimization process through LPP model and types of solution methodologies like graphical method and simplex method along with applications in construction industry Outcomes: After completing this unit, students would be able to 1. Model construction problems with industry constraints using Operations & Research concepts 2. Solve above models through LPP using Graphical and Simplex methods
