(DOK 4) Materials: Teacher US Government Book TE Markers Pencil/Pen Teaching Notes Remote for Television PowerPoint JFK video Students Pencil/Pen Paper US Government Book Opening (Set): Good morning/evening class, lets put away our work in other classes and put our technology away, so that we can watch Channel One news and discuss it afterwards. Were going to discuss presidential terms, disability, presidential succession and finally, the vice presidency. Learning Tasks (Procedures): First I will turn off the television after Channel One has finished and choose one current event to discuss with the class and see what they think about the event. Then I will tell the students to get out a piece of notebook paper and pencil to take notes on the PowerPoint that I have prepared for the day. Ill pull up my PowerPoint and teaching notes (incase technical difficulties arise) and begin with Presidential terms and how these terms have evolved over time into the 2 term limit we have today. Next, I will preview the Presidents pay and some benefits he receives while holding power. During this slide, I will ask the students what sticks out to them most about his pay or some of the benefits he has during his terms. After looking at those, I will continue on to look at how the Constitution provides for presidential succession and the amendment to the Constitution that had to be made for Presidents. Include that disabilities can cause Presidents to be replaced also if need be. Finally, I will wrap up with the role the Vice President plays for the President. How he is first in line to the Presidency and that his role in the election process is to balance the ticket to help the presidential candidate appeal to more voters. I will explain how the Vice Presidency has gained importance throughout the years since its beginning and that effective Vice Presidents like Dick Cheney helped to further that importance. Ok guys, now I have a video that I want you all to watch to end class.

Closure: We covered a lot of information today about the Presidential and the Vice Presidential roles. As I have shown you, the President has a lot of benefits from becoming Chief of State and that he and his Vice President have to work in cooperation in order to be successful at running the country. Tomorrow we will be using the computers and I will discuss the group project that I will have yall doing for tomorr ow and Thursday. We will then walk through the rubric that I will have prepared for yall to use as a guide to put together the project. Go today and get a poster for class Thursday and I will see yall tomorrow! Differentiated Instruction: Enrichment: I will have the students research why President Obama chose Joe Biden as his Vice President and let them lead the discussion as to why he was important to Obamas campaign. Intervention: For students struggling with the information I will help the student produce an outline of the material covered for the day, so that he or she can see the information more clearly and concretely. Accommodation: I will make whatever accommodations are needed for students with disabilities or with learning impairments.
