This information has been prepared to provide you with an overview of the Wallingford Community Women. Please contact me with any questions you may have. The objective of Wallingford Community Women is to promote educational, philanthropic and community service work and to provide its members with opportunities for personal enrichment, leadership roles and social interaction. Organized March 1954 Federated December 1954 Celebrating Over 50 Years of Community Involvement Grow Share Give Care Membership Requirements: Membership in WCW shall be open to women over 18 years of age with termination of membership to be determined by the member. We have no upper age limit. Prospective Members: Anyone considering membership must submit a written application for membership after attending 1 orientation and 1 general meeting during the September though June period. A prospective member must also participate in one of the Clubs community projects before she is accepted into the organization. Annual Dues: Membership dues are $30 per year and are prorated for new members depending upon when they join. Active Membership Responsibilities: Each member shall actively serve on at least one active standing committee/project, exclusive of special committees, by attending scheduled meetings. Each member shall attend at least 7 of the 10 scheduled meetings, unless excused by the Membership Chairwoman or President. Each member shall serve as a co-hostess at one of the regularly scheduled monthly meetings. Connecticut Junior Women, Inc. WCW is a member of the Connecticut Junior Women, Inc (CJW). CJW is divided into 9 districts with a District Representative in charge of each. Each district holds an annual District Event. CJW was first organized in 1938 as a division of the Connecticut Federation of Womans Clubs, a member of the General Federation of Womans Clubs. In June, 1976, Joyce King, a member of WCW, was installed as Junior Director. In June, 1979, the Connecticut Junior Clubs left the National Federation and incorporated as Connecticut Junior Women. CJW sponsors a 4 year State Project, voted on by the member clubs, with the purpose of educating the members and raising funds for the State Project. The current State Project is Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes. Past projects include Covenant To Care, Time for Life, the Andrew Panettieri Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital, Roaring Brook State Park, the Lupus Foundation and the Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation

The Junior Pledge: I pledge to grow, share, give and care With each and every stride. To guide my waking moments Towards goals that give me pride. To outwardly be the person I know I am inside To be a Connecticut Junior Club Logo: (description by Nancy L. Arnaud) Every snowflake is totally unique the same can be said of each club member, and therefore, of the club itself. Snowflakes have 6 points representing the six major areas of service in the clubs program: Arts, Conservation, Current Affairs, Education, Health and Home Life. The hearts at the tip of each long point symbolize WCW members reaching out with and from their hearts to the hearts of the community. The symbol beneath each heart is the sign for infinity and is representative of the community of WCWs goals and extending from the past to the present on into the future. The central, diamond-tipped star motif symbolizes the sparkle and vitality of each member, and consequently, the WCW as a whole.

Club Prayer: (by Colleen DAngelo, 1980) Dear Lord: Bless our group of women. Give us strength to go out of ourselves and find out what is good in others. Help us to put aside our problems to help those with bigger ones. Give us your love so that we may share it as we work toward our goals. Keep us safe and help use to love one another as a family so that we may form a unity and better serve our community. And above all let us not forget our families who sacrifice us so that we can help others. AMEN Annual Membership Awards: Ella T. Grasso Membership Award (CJW) received when a member brings in 5 new members during 5 years. Jayne Sullivan Service Award (WCW) recognizes the member who gave the most club services during the year. Barbara Vining New Member Award (WCW) awarded to the new Junior who exemplifies the meaning of club service. Linda Kundolph Friendship Award (WCW) given to the Junior who made prospective and new members feel most welcome. Gloria Horbaty Best New Project (WCW recognizes the new project that best added to the growth and diversity of the club. 5 Year Service Awards (WCW) recognizes any active club member who has completed 5 consecutive years of service. Club Colors: Blue and White Club Flower: Carnation Club Meetings: All meetings are held at Wallingford Parks and Recreation. The meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted). Our business meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. Seven Word Prayer: (said at the end of each meeting) God Grant Us Peace Among All Nations.
