The religious significance of wearing rings

It is sunnah muakkadah for men & women to wear a ring/ rings on the right hand. There are several hadiths from our Imams recommending us to wear rings containing aqeeq & feeroza. Some of these are: 1) a!adh has narrated on the authorit" of Imam !#li $a) sa"ing: The one who wears an aqeeq ring% &od grants him $literall": seals for him) the 'eace $al(amn) and faith. ))Imam !#li $a) has said: *ear aqeeq on "our rings% "ou will +e +lessed and will +e saved from afflictions. ,)!#+ul u-min al(#nsaaree re'orts that: . I heard #+u !#+dillah $Imam /a!far as(Sadiq) sa"ing: -The hands that wears 0iroza will not see 'overt".- . 1eference: Sha"kh al(Ta+rasee% akarimul #khlaaq% Teheran% 123)% ''. 43(42. 5.) 6il"atul uttaqin% +" a7lisi% cha'ter 8)% 'age 815: /ana+e Salman 0arsi states that the 9ro'het $ S#* ) requested Imam #li $#S) to wear a ring on the right hand so that he ma" +e listed among the uqarra+een $those near to #llah). The Imam asked the 9ro'het $S#* ) as to who the uqarra+een were% to which the 9ro'het $ S#* ) re'lied /ana+e /i+reel and /ana+e ikaiel. Then the Imam inquired as to which stone should he wear: the 9ro'het $S#*) re'lied #qiq $carnelian)% as this stone had acce'ted the ;neness of #llah% the 9ro'hethood of the last 9ro'het% and the vicegerenc" of #li i+ne #+i Tali+% and the heavens for #li-s friends and Shias. <.) The 4th Imam was once asked wh" the 1st Imam wore his ring on the right hand. The Imam re'lies that Imam #li is the leader of the #sha+e =ameen% and the #sha+e =ameen are those whose records of actions will +e given on the right hand. #nd secondl"% the last 9ro'het also wore his rings on his right hand. It is well(known that Thou are #ll ight"% #ll *ise and #ll &enerous.It is sunnat to have a silver ring. *earing an iron% steel or +rass ring is makrooh for +oth men & women. Therefore% according to the Bth Imam% the 9ro'het wore a silver ring. #ccording to another tradition% the 9ro'het asked men not to wear an iron ring while 'ra"ing & strictl" 'rohi+ited the

wearing of +rass ring. The 2th Imam stated that aqiq takes awa" the 'overt" & dissolves differences in one-s heart. The Bth Imam stated that aqiq +rings safet" while traveling. #ccording to the 2th Imam% wearing the ring of "akoot $ru+")% sto's worries. #ccording to 4th Imam% "akoot eases difficult". The 4th Imam stated that the ring of za+er7ad $7ade) eases difficulties. 6e also stated that the emerald ring turns 'oor into rich% and that whosoever wears a ring set with a "ellow ru+" will never +ecome 'oor. The Bth Imam stated that those who wear a firoza $turquoise) ring% will never +ecome de'endent. Someone visited the 4th Imam and noticed the Imam wearing a ring set in with firoza with the following engraving: -Ail Aahil ulko- ( #llah% aster of the Cingdom. $,:142). #s the 'erson continued to stare% the Imam asked him what he was looking at% to which he re'lied at the ring. The Imam asked him if recognized the engraving% to which he said no. The Imam eD'lained to the 'erson that this stone was +rought down +" /ana+e /i+reel as a gift to the 9ro'het $ S#*) from the 6eaven. The 9ro'het $S#*) gave it to the 1st Imam. Since then% it has +een carried down. The 4th Imam stated that the 1st Imam once noticed the 9ro'het $S#*) came out of his house with a ring of 7aze "amani% while on their wa" to attend the /amaat 'ra"ers. #fter the 'ra"ers% the 9ro'het gave the ring to Imam #li% and asked him to have it on his right hand while he 'ra"ed% as a 'ra"er with 7aze "amani is equal to 3E 'ra"ers without it. The stone is alwa"s 'ra"ing & reciting -Aa Illaha Illalah- & -Su+hanallah-% and its rewards reaches the one who wears it. Someone had married +ut no children were conceived. The 'erson went to the 2th Imam to o+tain his advice. The Imam told him to wear a ring with firoza set in it with the following inscri'tion: -; " AordF Aeave me not alone $without an issue) though Thou are the +est of heirs.- $)1:42) Gefore the "ear ended% the" were +lessed with a son from the same wife.

The 9ro'het $S#*) stated that #llah finds it difficult not to listen to the 'ra"ers of those who have aqiq & firoza rings on their fingers% and feels hurt to negate their 'ra"ers. Imam #li stated that he wants ever" momin to have < rings: 1.=akoot is the +est. ).#qiq as it is a stone which has affection for #llah & the #hle Ga"t. ,.0iroza gives strength to the e"es% eD'ands the +reast & strengthens the heart. *henever a momin goes for some work with firoza ring on his finger% his work is done. 5.6adeed Iheeni should also +e worn +ut +ut not alwa"s. ;nl" when one is afraid of some mischief then he should visit that environment with this ring% as it kee's the devil awa". <.@urre Ha7af% which is found onl" in Ha7af. *hen a 'erson wears a ring of durre Ha7af% at his ever" glance towards it% #llah gives him the reward of ?i"arat% 6a77 & Jmrah% which are ke't in his record of action. The reward is equal to the rewards of the 9ro'hets & the 'ious.

*hen 6azrat I+rahim was a+out to +e thrown into the 'it of fire% /ana+e /i+reel +ecame u'set. *hen #llah asked him a+out it% /ana+e /i+reel then asked #llah wh" he had made 6az. I+rahim 6is friend% the onl" +eliever of #llah-s oneness to face not onl" his enemies +ut also the enemies of #llah. #llah ordered /ana+e /i+reel to +e silent% and told him that a hel'ers 'ersonhastens his work like /i+reel and was afraid of loosing time. 6az. I+rahim is #llah-s creature and can free him whenever 6e likes. #fter +eing comforted% /ana+e /i+reel went to the 9ro'het and asked if he needed hel'. The 9ro'het said that he did not need his hel'. #t that time% #llah sent an Kmerald ring on which was engraved: . There is no god +ut one #llah and uhammad is the essenger of #llah% thereis no 'ower and strength eDce't with #llah% the &rand% the &reat: I entrust m" affairs unto #llah ( Sufficient is for me #llah.. #llah then revealed to him that he should wear the ring which will cool the fire. Imam #li used to wear 5 rings on his hand ( >one of ru+" $=aqut) for +eaut" and dignit" >the second of Turquoise $0iruza) for o+taining @ivine hel' and victor" >the third of 6adid Ihini for strength >the fourth of #qiq to 'rotect himself against enemies and all t"'es of misfortunes 0rom a tradition from Gashir @ahhan If a Shia wears a ring of even one of the three aqias% he will derive its +enefits% his sustencance $rizq) will +e increased% and he will +e 'rotected from dangers% disasters% misfortunes & accidents. It will also +e a 'rotection for him in frightening & terrif"ing circumstances% like facing the o''ression of a t"rant. It is highl" commenda+le to wear a ring on the right hand% although some traditions do allow the

ring to +e worn on the left also. 6owever% if the ring has an" 'recious stone set in it% or has an" hol" engravings on it% it should +e removed +efore going to the toilet or engaging in an" activities where one-s ritual 'urit" will +e affected.
