Station Battery: a) Daily: Inspect battery for general condition, level of electrolyte, measure voltage and specific gravity

of pilot cell, note ambient temperature and keep record of these observations. Weekly: Inspect battery, clean all dust and direct from the battery, check for plate buckling, collections of sediments at the bottom. Fortnightly : Top up distilled water if required. Quarterly : Check specific gravity and voltage of all cells, check connection, apply petroleum elly to terminals connections, etc. Yearly: !aint the racks and battery room with acid resistant paint. Carry out discharging of battery as per the instructions given in the maintenance manual. "oost charge the "attery after discharging.

If during any time of charging, temperature e2ceeds )',C, suspend charging. 3llow temperature to come down to 4',C and continue charging at finishing rate. If however, the time taken for the cell to cool down to 4',C is inordinately long, recharging may be started at 4),C. Cells are considered to be fully charged once three successive hourly readings of cell voltage and electrolyte gravity are found to be constant. 3ll cells should also gas freely. The voltage of each cell should be around *.+)1 on top of charge condition. 5owever, the minimum total 3h input, as mentioned in the table must be provided to the cells even if the voltages and specific gravities are observed to be constant before that. /n completion of charge, ad ust acid level to 67a2imum6 after correcting specific gravity of electrolyte to %.*'' ( '.'') at *+,C.

Float/Trickle Charge

In standby application 82ide !lante cells are to be maintained within a #loat 1oltage range of *.%. to *.*) 1 per cell. Trickle charging currents should be so ad usted, anywhere between the ma2imum and minimum allowed levels given in the table, such that individual cells remain fully charged. Quick Recharge 82ide !lante cells after a deep discharge can also be recharged quickly by applying the 9tarting -ates mentioned in the table. 5owever, currents will have to be reduced to the #inishing -ate once individual cells attain a voltage level of *.0) volts. Care will also have to be taken that electrolyte temperature does not e2ceed the ma2imum of )',C in which case the charging will be discontinued until the temperature drops down to 4',C, or at least to 4),C. Charging may be resumed at the finishing rate from this point. !uali"ing charge !eriodical equali:ing charge at finishing rate is recommended.
