KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property, a leading developer, recently held its Long Service Awards 2012 in appreciation

of its employees who have contributed to the company's success.


These include employees such as Jeganathan Maniam and Lee May Liang, who have served Sime Darby Property for 30 years. Jeganathan, a senior executive of the quality, environmental, safety and health department under the property development division, has certainly thrived in his career in the company over the years. "I started with the company as a site supervisor. Over the years, I have been given opportunities to learn on-the-job as well as from training programmes. "These have allowed me to take on more responsibilities in the organisation," Jeganathan said. The awards were presented by Sime Darby Property managing director Datuk Abd Wahab Maskan to employees who were celebrating their 20th, 25th and 30th year with the company this year. "Not many companies have people who have been with them for 20 years and longer. We have about 50 employees who have received long-service awards. "It goes to show that this company is focused on the long term; be it in the delivery of our products and services or ensuring the welfare and growth of our human capital," said Wahab.

After several decades, Sime Darby Property already establish in Malaysia, many difficult things that they faced it. All this honors should belong to their employee who really committed towards the successful of company. At a time when many workers change jobs to seeking a better offer, there are several worker that still stay and loyal to Sime Darby Property. So, the Long Service Award that was held recent by Sime Darby to appreciate their long service employee is a decent award that all company in Malaysia must apply it too. However, even the company held a Long Service Award to appreciate the employee, its probably not enough to them. For example, the company just gives an award or medal or some electric components as a gift to the employee who has work for a long time without increase their salary or wages, allowances, or many more. So, the company must do some reward system for long-service employee. The reward must be appropriate with the employee contribution. In additional, this system may not only make the long-service employee feel satisfy but it makes another employee feel desired and want to stay at the company.

As we know, the cost of recruiting a new member or staff is greater than even the more expensive staff loyalty method. According to Resourcing and Talent Planning Survey that published by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), cost to retain employee is cheaper than to recruit a new employee. Additional, Groups Changing Face of Reward study, which was conducted at the end of 2009 has found that retention is becoming a key goal of business.

Sime Darby Property really appreciates their long-service worker. However, they must avoid to not appreciating the other worker who only starting service for them in short period. Its because they also contributing to the company. Other than that, they will feel deserted because the company only appreciates the long-service employee. So, the company must keep this balance and appropriate to keep both long-service employee and the new one feel motivate to continuously contribute to company.

Otherwise, Sime Darby really did a good job toward appreciates their employee. Thats why Sime Darby has become one of the largest business companies in Malaysia. Furthermore, many job-seeker are willing to works at Sime Darby. They found that Sime Darby its a company that really appreciate to their employee. This is what all the worker in this world wants, appreciation.

Finally, any companies need to reward their employee either is a long-service employee or not. Its because from reward, the employee will get motivate and will give their best performance towards company. In other words, rewards its a part of important components toward the employee performance . So, the company needs to focus in that matter even from boards view its only small things. But, unfortunately, it is not.
