"iPhone 5S vs. Samsung Galaxy S4 (spec comparison)." Gadget Review. N.p., 20 Sept. 2013. Web. 27 Oct. 2013. The website is called Gadget Review and is a credible technology dedicated website. Gadget Review focuses or reviewing and comparing new technology, especially handheld devices. This sites large number of comparisons gives it credibility in the area of handheld electronics. The author is Christian Hokenson. Hokenson owns PCH Notary and does many reviews on several websites. Hokenson writes technical reviews and does comparisons, which give him credibility on the article that I have chosen. This article is comparing the new IPhone 5s and the Galaxy S4. The article begins with a brief introduction of the two phones. The author notes the many variants of the galaxy S4, commenting on the good and the horrific. There is one factor that the S4 active has that every smartphone should have. The waterproof and dust proof capabilities. After the introduction the author goes into the comparison section beginning with the size and weight. The two phones are meant for different markets so it is noted that this is personal preference. Next is the body composition. The composition is mostly aesthetic and comes down to personal preference again. However the author argues that the Galaxy S4 Active must win since it is indestructible. If the variant is not considered he argues that aesthetically the iPhone 5s must win, which is a comment

that has no support behind it. The next section is the battery life of the devices. Here the Galaxy S4 wins because it is replaceable. Next is the processor. The author explains that Samsung is using a quad core where Apple is using a dual core processor. He then includes hyperlinks to the benchmark tests that have been done, and Apple has refined their processor and it is fast than the S4. Next is the operating system. The author rightly says that when you choose an operating system you choose a phone. Both operating systems are good so there is not a winner here. The same is to be said for service connectivity. Next comes storage. The Galaxy S4 wins for built in and microSD storage, where Apple wins for cloud storage. Lastly the Apple IPhone wins for the camera option. This article was interesting because it was comparing two powerhouses in the phone business and conductiong a bare bones comparison. I liked the way that the article was broken down. The points of comparison were very insightful as well. This is definitely a top five source because it actually is about my original inquiry. This is a comparison, which is what I have been looking for. Granted it is not as good as I would like because the author shows some bias for Apple, but it is a comparison that is fairly good. This source over all agrees with the other sources that I have found. Apple has definitely added some performance to its new device. This author was slightly more energetic towards the iPhone and showed that he was biased in several sentences, but overall the comparison was very consistent with the other reviews that I have.

Apple Inc., iPhone Team. "IPhone 5s." N.p., 2013. Web. 27 Oct. 2013. This source is a reliable company document. The document is the specification sheet for the iPhone 5s from Apple. This source does not really have any written structure; it is a sheet with the specifications and dimensions. This document provides the information from which I will make comparisons and draw conclusions about the hardware. The author of this document is unknown. It was probably the team that designed the IPhone 5s. The article receives its credibility through the fact that it is directly from the company that the inquiry originates from. This article is a specifications sheet. The sheet outlines the entire phone. It starts with mostly aesthetics such as the finishes available. It gives the available options for storage and what the price is for each storage option. Then the dimensions are given along with a diagram of the height and width. The most important parts that I will focus on are the processors and chips that this phone contains. The new processor that Apple has introduced is called the A7. This new generation dual core processor has a 64-bit architecture. This means that the processor can do more computing. Mainly gamers are interested in this at the moment, but this will definitely increase the speed of the new iPhone 5s. Apple also introduced a new type of chip to the new release. The M7 chip is designated to process the input from the gyroscope and the accelerometer. This frees up space on the CPU so it does not have to take up space processing extra tasks. The chip is also in charge of the GPS to again free up the CPU. Next the carriers are listed along with the model numbers. Next the location services are covered, with the new addition of a digital compass. The new fingerprint ID scanner integrated into the home button. Display is an interesting area of discussion. Apple has not changed its Retina Display in the IPhone since 2011. The retina display is four inches and has a pixel density of 326 and a

resolution of 1136-by-640. The contrast ratio is 800:1. The brightness for the IPhone is 500 cd/m^2. From here the camera is renamed to the iSight Camera. What the difference is a mystery. The last few important things are the proprietary power connector and the proprietary Nano SIM card. This is the basis for the inquiry paper that I am writing. It is important because it is really what everything else that I am searching must be compared to. It is interesting to see what Apple has put into their new phone. This is a top five source because it is the foundation from which I am building the rest of my inquiry on. This source connects all my other sources. It is where they got their information from to make all the other judgments. At the moment one source agrees heavily with the specification sheet above and one source agrees with the spec sheet in theory. Whether or not the programs utilize the full extent of the new processor is the main point of discourse.

Stevens, Tim. "IPhone 4s Review." Engadget. N.p., 14 Oct. 2011. Web. 27 Oct. 2013. Source 3 is another tech review done by Tim Stevens from Endgadget. The website is Engadget, a very good technology review site. This site is a very extensive review and technology news website. The author of this article is Tim Stevens. Stevens was the editor in chief at Engadegt from 2011-2013 and was an automotive editor from 1998-2011. He is currently transferring from Engadget to CNET. CNET is one of the biggest magazines and reviewers of technology on the Internet. He has attended most of the, Lets Talk Apple, press conferences for the major releases. He is a very credible technology author. The article talks about the IPhone 4s. This article was posted at the end of 2011 so it is reviewing or previewing the iPhone 4s. The article starts with the statement that this is not the IPhone 5, not referring to the actual IPhone 5 because it was not released at the time. The introduction goes on to say that the phone has some improvements form its predecessor, but is in the same case. The IPhone 4s does not have 4G and the screen is small compared to the competitors. The major changes from the 4 to the 4s can be seen in the OS. The operating system for the new IPhone is iOS5. This new system is the first to introduce Siri. Siri is the voice recognition system made by a spin off of DARPA called CALO. The article spends a lot of time talking about the massive improvement that Apple has made with the voice recognition in this system. The internals of the phone were better with a longer lasting battery and a much faster processor. This article is very interesting because it shows the difference in technology over just 2 years. Almost every device nowadays has 4g LTE even if it is a lower end device, so it is interesting that 2 years ago Apples flagship phone only had 3G capabilities. The technology and

terminology are also different as well. The standards with which people judge smartphones are very much the same, which I thought was interesting. I chose this article because it was by a trusted technology site and it does a good job at showing what phones looked like two years ago. It also gave a personal perspective that helped me see what people were thinking about the iPhones at that time. People, like with the release of the new IPhone 5s, were expecting something very new and different, not new hardware in the old case. This really helped get a good idea for what the market is looking for. People are not really looking at the internals of a phone they really care about the aesthetics. When the IPhone 5 was released there was a huge riot in China, but with the 5s and 5c there is barely a blip in the market. This source agrees with my other sources that there is more a market on aesthetics rather than the Hardware. This is an older review on the predecessor to the 5 and 5s, but it really is almost exactly the same reaction. Apple is playing the market, but without Jobs what are they going to do next?

Abdullah, Mikey Angelicola, Lindsay Allison, and Jordan Tyler. Personal interview. 25 Oct. 2013. For my fourth source I interviewed several friends and asked their opinions on their iPhones. This was an interesting experience, because I didnt really have to formulate the questions. When I brought up these topics, people just took off and told me what they liked, didnt like, and what was cool and what was dumb. Each person really brought up something different, so I will separate what he or she had to say into different paragraphs. This is a credible source because it is a consumer review and not the professional tech guys. This has less to do with the hardware and more to do with the OS marketing and other features that have hooked consumers. This really answers my inquiry, because from a couple of people they come out and say it looked nicer so I wanted one. Mikey has just recently switched from the Galaxy s3 to an IPhone 5c. He said that the battery on his old phones was not good at all. He really had a hard time keeping them charged. He is very fond of the IOS that Apple uses and how simple it is to use. He thought that the android was very complicated to use. He said that the OS for android just took more time to do things. He also likes the sleek style of the IPhones. Like all android users the group messages are awful so Apples iMessage was a big factor that swayed him. Lindsay has an IPhone 4 and she is becoming very unhappy with it. This phone is three or four generations behind the newest phone that Apple has been released. Apple allows for the new IOS to be downloaded onto the older phones and it is causing some big problems. This new IOS takes a lot of space on these older phones that do not have a lot of space to begin with. Lindsay said that this is a problem because she has to take a lot of media off her phone to put the new IOS on. The old IOS is bugging, but the 4 does not have the processing power to run the new IOS so

Apple is basically forcing people to buy the new product because they cannot just cut off the older devices from using the new IOS. Abdullah says that IOS7 is slow and sluggish compared to the old version. He has the IPhone 5. Although this is not a huge issue many people have told me that this is a problem. Brooke and Kelly both remarked the same thing about IOS7. Tyler has switched from a Galaxy to the IPhone 5 as well and he says that the IPhone is not as glitch and sluggish as his Galaxy.

Tabini, Marco. Computer World, "How Apple stretched its wings with the iPhone 5s hardware design." Last modified 13 Sept. 2013. Accessed 27 Oct. 2013. The article is from a website called macworld.com, a technology reviewer. Macworld.com is a credible subsidiary of computerworld.com. Computerworld.com is a large technology centered website that focuses on news, tutorials, and reviews. This site is credible because of its focus and extensive testing and reviews section. The author, Marco Tabini, is the CEO of Marco Tabini & Associates Inc. Tabini also writes articles, like this one, on technology, and does reviews. He also publishes technology articles and magazines such as Python Magazine. His main focus is on open source data distribution and development. This article is about the IPhone 5s and the new hardware that Apple has incorporated into the new version of their phone. To begin it addresses the new processor series that Apple has incorporated. This processor has been claimed to double the speeds of its predecessor. They have also introduced the M7 motion dedicated chip. This chip is dedicated for all the accelerometers, GPS, and gyroscopes. Then the article winds down with the introduction of the fingerprint ID that is in the new phone. After this decent chunk of writing the paper is wrapped up in an over all positive conclusion. This article is mostly facts and comments on the facts. This was an interesting article for me because it talks about the positives of the new IPhone. It really sounded like the article was written with some surprise. Apple has released a decent new phone that is actually good and different than the ones that were previously released. My search was on whether or not Apple had any tangible technological advantage over its competitors that made it sell better. I have now refined my search to just the IPhone series and its

main competitors. This article has helped to understand that if Apple was on par or below par with other companies that they are now stepping it up. I chose this article for my top five because it was really factual and came from a credible source that actually talked about the hardware. The author took what Apple had given out as information and explained each part and what exactly it did to enhance the performance of the phone. This article really focused on what my inquiry was on, the actual hardware that makes the phone run. It has agreed with the other sources that I have found on the new IPhone 5s and really given a good explanation of the new features. This article talks about the new features, as do the other articles that I have compiled, and I think this article does a good job of explaining the new features. I also think that the writer is slightly weary of the new IPhone and is waiting to see if the new processors are used to the fullest potential. I think this article is slightly more honest about the new release than some of the other articles that I have found. The introduction was almost sarcastic at another midcycle release from Apple. I think this slightly contrasts with the other articles that I have found in this respect.
