Till now, the FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investor), QFIs (Qualified Foreign Investors) and NRIs were eligible to invest and acquire the shares on the recognized stock exchanges of India in compliance with the FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) regulations. But the NRIs were not allowed to acquire shares on exchange (bourses) under the FDI Scheme. The RBI imposed restrictions on banks and NBFCs for providing loans against gold coins as well as units of gold ETFs and mutual funds to curb demands for gold. Also banks were asked to ensure that the amount of loan to any customer against gold ornaments, gold Jewellery and gold coins (weighing up to 50 grams) should be within the board approved limit. India has signed a loan agreement of 100 million US dollar with the World Bank for its Low Income Housing Finance Project.The objective of the project is to provide access to sustainable housing finance for low income households to purchase, build or upgrade their dwellings. Govt aimed to bring e-governance at grass root level for transparency under e-district scheme and govt has decided to cover 339 of around 620 districts by March 2014 by a system under which govt. services can be accessed through instruments like mobile phones.The initiative is a part of e-Bharat programme for which government has received a financial support of around Rs 700 crore from World Bank. UAE Exchange, one of the largest foreign exchange firms in the United Arab Emirates, has applied to RBI for a banking license in India. The State Bank of Travancore launched a new service for its customers doorstep banking.The minimum pickup will be Rs. 5 lakh and the maximum would be Rs. 20 million.
