IHG opens its 1st Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Panama City
The Wall Street Journal
InterContinental Hotels Group recently announced the newest addition to its Latin America portfolio with the opening of the 196-room Holiday Inn Express Panama Distrito Financiero hotel located in Panama City, Panama The new-build hotel is a franchise agreement that is owned by Latin American Hospitality Group, and is the first Holiday Inn Express in the city.

The Grupo Habita hotel group is known for its design-centric boutique hotels, with 14 properties in locations such as Playa del Carmen, Veracruz, and Mexico City, Mexico, as well as New York City. Now, the Mexico-based hotel group expands to Oaxaca, Mexico, with the Dec. 1 opening of Hotel Escondido, just north of the village of Puerto Escondido.

Bill Marriott may know more about the hotel industry than anyone on the planet. He has spent almost six decades working for the family group, now known as Marriott International, and still radiates enthusiasm for what he calls "the most fascinating business in the world." Having joined the company in 1957, he was quickly made manager of its nascent lodging division. Fifteen years later he took over from his father, J. Willard Marriott, as CEO, and ran the company for 40 years. He stepped down in 2012, but only as far as a full-time executive chairman's role.
