Dec. 11th -- (Wed.) Post House Committee Meeting 6:00 p.m.

Post Meeting 7:00 PM

CHAPLAIN'S CORNER:
I received a call telling me about John G. Lambert, a Post Life Member, who had passed away on October 25, 2013. He was a Purple heart survivor, a proud Marine. We all send out deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Hugh King is home from the Hospital and is feeling much better. Willes Sjuison had a back operation and as doctor promised, all is progressing well. I have not received any good news about Lucille Schlie. Her family is there to care for her. Another long time member, Eva Boylan Bloom has been living in a retirement home located across the street from Safeway on Michigan avenue. Eva is doing fine and has daughters checking on her. Members do not always call to let us know what is happening and it is appreciated when they do let us know Please Call! Marge Fitzsimmons has her 98th birthday, December 4, 2013 and George Newhall is doing great at 98. Congratulations!

Dec. 15th (Sun.) = Childrens Christmas Party 1:00 P.M. Come see
Santa Continued from page 1

I do not believe that most people realize what it takes to keep our Post doors open. Im going to give you an idea. Would you believe that it takes about $12,500 per month in operating costs? Multiply that times 12 and you have $150,000 a year. That does not include major repairs and maintenance. I will be giving Theresa a report at the next meeting of income and expenses. I think this is information that everyone is interested in and its kind of surprising when you see it on paper. There was a 25th year Anniversary celebration at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Capitol. Pete Conaty, a lobbyist for Veterans benefits and one of our very own members was in charge of the event, and did a phenomenal job. This was a big day for all Vietnam Veterans. We did not get a heros welcome when we came home from the war; we received quite the opposite in fact. Things are different now and this was an awesome day for me and all the vets that fought in that terrible war. Im sorry if you missed this event. The Annual Crab Feed will be March 1, 2014, No Host Bar at 6:00 PM Dinner at 7:00 PM. This is one of the Posts biggest events of the year. To all Comrades, please do what you can to start collecting raffle prizes for this event. I have a Non Profit letter you can obtain for the contribution. Anyone can donate prizes, the more the better! We will be having the Awards Night on January 8th. House Committee meeting will be at 5:00 PM and Post meeting at 6:00 PM then awards at 7:00 PM

Veterans and Family Support:

On December 13, 2013 the Wounded Warrior personnel at McClellan presented the volunteer a memorial for our participation in their program. The brass plate is on one of four square pillars in front of the Peace Rose Garden located at our State Capital. We all were thankful and proud of the honor. The only luncheon scheduled during the holidays will be on Wednesday December 11, 2013 and then we wait for further instructions. We are fortunate to be able to continue the lunches due to the monetary help we receive from the M.O.L. Hut 1 and our Post. The soldiers are always so grateful. Thank you M.O.L. and VFW 8762. Our Auxiliary has been busy buying gifts for 18 female th veterans at the Yountville Veterans Home. All of the 17 District is involved buying gifts for the 60 ladies that live at what is called The Hen House. Love that name California has just opened two new home in Redding and Fresno. The Veterans Day Parade was a huge success. Our Post entered a float; it was a flatbed trailer, which we decorated with bales of hay on it, for all to sit on. Outstanding job by Dianne Medina and crew. The Ledger had a picture of the float on its front page. That night on November 11, 2013 we held a Rib Eye Steak dinner for 170 people. It was quite a successful day. We are proud to report that our District 17 is participating in the Snow Ball Express which takes about 30 underprivileged children to Disney Land. Our Auxiliary always sends money to help.
Thanks very much, Jean Jones
